Does anyone have one of these setups?

My laptop is dying a slow death and I'd like to get a new computer/laptop/all in one. My main priority is a bigger screen (23/24"), so I work at home if needed.

So that sort of rules out getting a laptop based on the screen requirements. Then I saw these all in one set ups on the Dell website and thought they looked pretty good. I like the neat look of them and I don't have to worry about finding space for a tower.

Just got a six core pc built plays any game at ultra settings , 3tb hdd , bluray burner, built in WiFi plus heaps more for 1400 :)

Only so cheap because a mate of mine built it

We have a couple at work, they seem to run fine but (as mentioned) as soon as they are out of warranty good luck getting something fixed. I wouldn't want to know how much those touch screens cost to replace. You can get some pretty compact PC's these days, Dell do some Inspiron slim towers, and there are plenty of DIY options if you know someone who can build them.

The other option (if you like laptops) is to replace your current one and plug a monitor into the back of it.

Some good points, especially if one part dies then I'll have to send the whole thing to get fixed.

Main reason I look at Dell is the warranty but for the specs it's fairly expensive and much cheaper to build you're own.

I've thought about just attaching a 24" screen but my laptop doesn't support 1920x1080 resolution, so there is no point.

Upgrade internal VGA card?

Seriously mate, build one, you could build a comp with the same processing power, same size screen, as the one you have up there keyboard etc for at least 700-800 dollars less if built yourself.

I prefer mouse controlled computers to touch screens.

No idea what your budget or specific needs for work is but a 27" iMac or if you wanted to keep your portability a Macbook Air with a 27" thunderbolt display attached would fit the bill.

The thunderbolt displays are pretty nifty things, there are ports in the monitor to attach network, external hard drives, printers, power etc. so all you do is plug the one cable into your air/macbook pro and you're sorted.

$1200 for a fancy monitor? and a setup totalling $2300 :eek::eek:

You could build a hell of a PC, or a very nice laptop/monitor combo for a lot less than that.....

... and it wouldn't be an Apple ;)

Whats with the Apple hate, If you've got the cash then the Mac solution is a good one.

I used to build my own PC's but since i've moved all my gaming over to console all my personal computing is done with Macs, i don't miss out on anything since i can run Win7 in a virtual machine on my Macs, or have a separate boot partition.

Never tried Apple but I only use computers for the basics, so it's pointless spending too much money for something I don't need. Email, Word, Excel, internet, iTunes and Photoshop is all I use.

Dell is probably a bit on the expensive side but the warranty and service at your house is pretty good for a noob like me.

I guess that's the point...... no one bothers running a Mac OS VM on a PC because they don't need to ;)

Beyond some graphic design applications Apple products are just overpriced, underwhelming bits of hardware aimed at people who prefer style over substance.

You can do great computers if you used free OS'
