Anyone that thinks these two players have note added to our team are kidding themself.
Allans last two games have been very good and he will only get better,Murphy continues to find the ball and also is kicking goals.
That one he kicked against West Coast made the hair on my neck stand up.

that one from 55 against the dogs was good too

Some people criticise him for giving the ball too match height, but that one pass he did coming out of defence on friday night...must have gone pinpoint 50m without getting more than 5m up.

i don't think you can go past the fact both he and allen are on base wages and are earning their spots in the team every week...

contrast that with mercuri who is on ****loads and has his spot under scrutiny each and every week

sorry to post in the wrong thread, but these two have proved themselves enough already, even if they do happen to slump in form we've only lost the salary of a 1st year player

Mercuri, while still on handy money is not on what you would think, he has voluntarily taken two hefty cuts.

We have had a few misses over the years but we have had far more wins when it comes to trading, we are not like collingwood who no-one likes to deal with due to wanting everything in their favour, they kid themselves the woods, very funny.
Allan and Murphy are just another example of shrewd footballing know how. Full credit to the club.

On your first point, while he has taken "hefty cuts" he would still be on over $250k while Allan & Murfs are on combined $100k. Who would you rather in your side due to "skills & performance" atm?

Spot on with your second point windyhill! Essendon are close to the best team when it comes to trading (drafting is a different matter on the whole). Collingwood would be close to the bottom on trades.

Justin Murphy has been a bloody good pickup. Lets just hope his form is consistent and carrys on for a few more seasons.

He is known for having good opening seasons with clubs but then dropping off. Hence him being traded so much.

Hopefully hes found his home at Windy Hill.

theres a thread about it somewhere....

Yeah, everyone keeps saying just because Wallsy said it. However the facts are not stacked that way if people will look at the facts and not the prejudice.

It probably helped that BOTH of them WANTED to be at Essendon. Murfs actually wanted to come to Essendon quite a while ago but we never showed any interest.

allan

it makes a huge difference to have a ruckman who when he wins the tap out actually hits it to an Essendon players hands or advantage. Not just hit it any where.

There's been a fair bit in the media recently (I think R Walls started it), suggesting that Justin Murphy drops the ball after his first year at a club, and therefore the real test of how successful his move to Essendon is will come next year.

I wanted to see if the statistics supported this argument, so here they are:

Club Year Games Disp DPG Goals GPG
Rich 1994 11 71 6.45 9 0.82
Rich 1995 1 2 2.00 0.00
Car 1996 16 208 13.00 19 1.19
Car 1997 21 321 15.29 26 1.24
Car 1998 18 348 19.33 13 0.72
Car 1999 23 550 23.91 18 0.78
Car 2000 1 13 13.00 0.00 Knee Injury
Gee 2001 18 371 20.61 9 0.50
Car 2002 20 391 19.55 15 0.75
Car 2003 16 226 14.13 14 0.88
Ess 2004 8 161 20.13 7 0.88

Richmond

So, in year 1 at Richmond, he hardly set the world on fire, in fact, he went a stretch of 8 games where he didn't kick a goal and average less than 5 touches a game. In year 2, I don't know if he was injured, but obviously didn't get much of a crack.

BEST YEAR 1st of 2. Neither very impressive

Carlton (1)

In year 1 at Carlton, he started to fulfil some potential, but he didn't hit his straps fully until he started to push up the ground in years 3 and 4 (year 4 being his best year, 1999). He got a serious knee injury in the GF of 99 and hardly played in 2000 before being shipped off to

BEST YEAR (4th of 5). 1st year would rank 4th best.

Geelong

Only 1 year here. 3rd in the B&F, impressive record.

BEST YEAR (1st of 1)

Carlton (2)

Certainly had a better 1st than 2nd year here, but did have some minor injury problems (thigh) that hampered him. He wasn't the only player who had an ordinary 2003 at the Blues either.

BEST YEAR (1st of 2)

So in a nutshell, technically, you'd have to say that the commentary is correct. He tends to perform better in his first year at a club (3 out of 4 first years have been his best for 75%).

On the other hand, I could argue that he's more likely to have his best year in his 4th year (1 from 1 for 100%)

What am I trying to prove? Only that there are lies, damn lies and statistics.

Thanks, ashisb.
Shut the **** up, Robert Walls.
