Traded Allen Christensen traded for pick 21

Why would Geelong trade Christensen then?

Seriously?

Taylor Adams cost Collingwood pick 10 last trade period.

Griffen is about to go for 4+7

Carlton was going to trade pick 6 for Tom Mitchell.

Christensen is a contracted 23 year old premiership player, who is walk in best 22 for a top 4 team.
And a bad back, and who is this top 4 team you talk of?

Because Gardiner looks like being a key cog in a rebuilding backline and you're using him in trade suggestion for a guy who wants to be traded to Brisbane. Brisbane can't afford to weaken their backline or forward line at the moment with the limited amount of talent at either end. The midfield is one part of the ground where we are stocked pretty well and Christensen would be a luxury (an awesome luxury),but not the highest importance at this stage
What I was trying to say but much better.

Brisbane trade: Darcy Gardiner + pick 21+ pick 25

Geelong trade: Allen Christensen + pick 33

Why?

With Brisbane as Christensen's preferred club and the #5 being off the table (and overs regardless) there is going to have to be some maneuvering done by both clubs to get a deal done.

Christensen is a versatile inside-out midfielder who has premiership experience at 23 years of age, while he's obviously not worth a top 5 imo, he's worth a top ten, even with the back surgery.

Darcy Gardiner was a late first in the 2013 draft and played 17 games for Brisbane last season, He's a Geelong Falcon product and the guy who I believe Wellsy should have picked last draft (though he's obviously a million times better at list management than me)

The deal would basically break down as-

Brisbane trade a KPD prospect, a second rounder and a second round swap (downgrade)

Geelong trade Christensen and a second round swap (upgrade)

Do we have to bring the lube?

I'm astounded at the lack of respect shown by Brisbane in their reported offer of a 20s pick.

I'd expect it from Collingwood but Brisbane?

Very insulting.

If we had an earlier pick available we would probably offer it. If the Beams deal falls over we might be able to offer more.

What do you expect us to offer?
Not much else there, sorry.
You guys have got a bunch of young talls coming through though, now....Close, McStay, Freeman, Clarke....although Gardiner's not quite as tall, you could probably afford to trade one of them out if you had to...
Trading first year players does not send a good message.
As far as any Geelong supporter knows.
Everything we've seen so far has suggested he isn't contracted.

Lol puts it in perspective. Taylor Adams goes for a top 10 pick and Christensen is worth a lot more than Taylor Adams.
Adams was straight swapped for Heath Shaw when GWS were desperate for experienced players.

Christensen is worth somewhere between picks 10-15, depending on his injuries and motives for leaving Geelong (if there's anything sinister).

Pick 25 plus Gardiner would be more than enough, but Gardiner just isn't on Brisbane's list of guys to trade out. It's the Beams thread all over again if you need to understand why Brisbane wont be trading guys like Gardiner.

How Brisbane up the value of 21 or 25 to get to a realistic value for Christensen and still stay in the Beams hunt is beyond me. Maybe they do 5 and 21 with Gold Coast for 8 and 15 then offer Collingwood 8 and a quality player and then offer Geelong 15, I really don't know.

The thing is Brisbane aren't chasing these players, that are wanting to came to us and on the same money. There is no reason for Brisbane to pay overs for these players.

exactly.

just because a player says they want to come to Brisbane doesn't mean the Lions have to pay to get them or even take them at all. if AC wants to join the lions, good on him, if Geelong doesn't like the compensation, taste.

Brisbane refuse to offer any players as they are all Untouchable

Going be very hard to land a deal with both Beams and Christensen without losing one single player

That's why it is important to remember we don't have to trade for either. They want to come to Brisbane, we aren't going to hamstring ourselves to make it happen for them.

21 + 25 is a start.

Appears you are trying to throw one in with 5 to get beams, at our expense.

But there is no way Geelong should accept a speculative 20s pick for our best young player.

I can see the what your club is trying to do (not let players go to instil its culture) But you can't expect to get both beams and Christensen without giving up something of note - especially 20s pick for Christensen - it is ridiculously insulting. If Rich wanted out, and you only had 3 other 23-26 aged players on your list and the club was offering a pick in the 20s you would probably feel insulted.

We felt insulted last year with the rubbish picks we received back for the Go Home 5. We did turn those picks into some excellent young plaayers though.

Yeah, that already happened to us last year.
It's the unfortunate reality of trading these days. If an uncontracted player nominates one club, you pretty much have to take what you can get.

Someone in Geelong convince him to head to WC, I'd happily see pick 11 go for Christensen
