Traded Allen Christensen traded for pick 21

A pick in the 20s for Christensen is so ridiculous and insulting to the Geelong space it's not funny.

Can only hope Balme & Scott see it the same, a decide to act accordingly.

The only reason some Geelong supporters are conceding defeat (by accepting a ridiculous pick) is because we have a long history of being 'the nice guys' and accommodating players at the expense of the club. Hopefully not this time.

I'm not saying to go out and be full dicks collingwood style, but I surely hope we would be sitting Christensen down to tell him to come up with a few other options (clubs) he would be happy with (for instance WC or GWS). They are also out of VIC.

That is how the best traders do things, and it's time we start lifting our game.

Would two 2nd rounders get it done?

At what point do Brisbane tell Collingwood to go and get stuffed regarding the Beams trade? If they do, then maybe a swap of first round picks would get the job done between the Cats and Brisbane. Beams to Brisbane next year by the look of things. I hope Collingwood get shafted next year. Pick 5 and 25 is a fair offer for Beams especially given the circumstances.
The pies have already set a 5pm deadline for today. It's looking like no deal will get done (I'd be astonished if Brisbane back flipped in Aish). Christensen nominating the Lions just makes the Beams deal less likely.

Very happy to keep Beams, a year is a long time in footy.

I'm not conceding, I'm being realistic. As has been mentioned by myself and quite a few others, aside from his back, is his propensity to get himself knocked out regularly. I have doubts about his longevity in the game and his wellbeing outside of it.

If he's happy to keep playing then a pick in the low 20s or somewhere in the teens shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.

The issue then being how firm Collingwood is in the self-set deadline, and how serious Beams is about moving to Queensland.

Given previous trade history with Collingwood, it doesn't come across all that well when they start trying to write their own rules for trade week.

Brisbane trade: Darcy Gardiner + pick 21+ pick 25

Geelong trade: Allen Christensen + pick 33

Why?

With Brisbane as Christensen's preferred club and the #5 being off the table (and overs regardless) there is going to have to be some maneuvering done by both clubs to get a deal done.

Christensen is a versatile inside-out midfielder who has premiership experience at 23 years of age, while he's obviously not worth a top 5 imo, he's worth a top ten, even with the back surgery.

Darcy Gardiner was a late first in the 2013 draft and played 17 games for Brisbane last season, He's a Geelong Falcon product and the guy who I believe Wellsy should have picked last draft (though he's obviously a million times better at list management than me)

The deal would basically break down as-

Brisbane trade a KPD prospect, a second rounder and a second round swap (downgrade)

Geelong trade Christensen and a second round swap (upgrade)

Say the 33 to 25 swap ups the value of 21 to something like 18, you are then getting Gardiner and 18 for Christensen. That's too much. Gardiner and 21 or 25 would be enough without the extra downgrade.

Christensen is worth more than Gardiner + 21 or 25 imo.

This is a deal that allows Brisbane to remain in the Beams negotiations whilst also landing Bundy Christensen.

No way would Brisbane trade Gardiner, he's pretty much a lock in their backline and he's only 18

Gardiner only just signed a new contract with Brisbane.

Why would Geelong trade Christensen then?

Seriously?

Taylor Adams cost Collingwood pick 10 last trade period.

Griffen is about to go for 4+7

Carlton was going to trade pick 6 for Tom Mitchell.

Christensen is a contracted 23 year old premiership player, who is walk in best 22 for a top 4 team.

You guys have got a bunch of young talls coming through though, now....Close, McStay, Freeman, Clarke....although Gardiner's not quite as tall, you could probably afford to trade one of them out if you had to...

I'm astounded at the lack of respect shown by Brisbane in their reported offer of a 20s pick.

I'd expect it from Collingwood but Brisbane?

Very insulting.

The thing is Brisbane aren't chasing these players, that are wanting to came to us and on the same money. There is no reason for Brisbane to pay overs for these players.

Because Gardiner looks like being a key cog in a rebuilding backline and you're using him in trade suggestion for a guy who wants to be traded to Brisbane. Brisbane can't afford to weaken their backline or forward line at the moment with the limited amount of talent at either end. The midfield is one part of the ground where we are stocked pretty well and Christensen would be a luxury (an awesome luxury),but not the highest importance at this stage
