Young gun Fernando Alonso has won pole position in Malaysia!!!

Outstanding result with Jarno Trulli finishing second on the grid to create a Renault 1-2 for the start of tomorrows grand prix.

Alonso is a gun i reckon. Fast becoming one of my favourite drivers, and probably teh second best young gun behind Kimi.

1. Fernando Alonso - Renault - 1:37.044
2. Jarno Trulli - Renault - +0.173 seconds.
3. Michael Schumacher - Ferrari - +0.349 seconds.
4. David Coulthard - McLaren - +0.410 seconds.
5. Rubens Barrichello - Ferrari - +0.535 seconds.
6. Nick Heidfeld - Sauber - +0.722 seconds.
7. Kimi Raikkonen - McLaren - +0.814 seconds.
8. Juan Pablo Montoya - Williams - +0.930 seconds.
9. Jenson Button - BAR - +1.029 seconds.
10. Olivier Panis - Toyota - +1.050 seconds.
11. Cristiano Da Matta - Toyota - +1.053 seconds.
12. Jacques Villeneuve - BAR - +1.245 seconds.
13. Heinz-Harald Frentzen - Sauber - +1.247 seconds.
14. Giancarlo Fisichella - Jordan - +1.372 seconds.
15. Antonio Pizzonia - Jaguar - +1.472 seconds.
16. Mark Webber - Jaguar - +1.580 seconds.
17. Ralf Schumacher - Williams - +1.745 seconds.
18. Jos Verstappen - Minardi - +3.373 seconds.
19. Justin Wilson - Minardi - +3.555 seconds.
20. Ralph Firman - Jordan - +3.866 seconds.

Bloody hell!!

Theres a spanner in the works. What was the weather like? Wet? Brilliant effort by Renault but another poor qualifying performance for Williams. From the times it looks like Webber put in an average performance. Will have to flick between the cricket world cup and the grand prix come Sunday night. Fingers crossed the war on iraq coverage wont take preference over them.

Yeah what a shock!!! Renault definetly must of been running on a light fuel load because there is no possible way that they could out qualify the ferrari's on a normal fuel load. Dont be surprised if they have to pit early and drop back in the field. What the hell is goin on with Ralf, he put in a shocker!!!

Dont be so sure. The Renault team has improved considerably over past years and they look to have quite a quick car on their hands after their performances in Aus and now Malaysia.

1-Raikkonen
2-Barrichello
3-Alonso

First GP win for Kimi and a great start for McLaren for the season.
Shame about Coulthard - electrical problem but keep it up McLaren!

Good finish and I'm happy.

Another grand prix, another McLaren win.

Well done kimmi.

Ferrari's dominance seems to be curbed.....for the moment anyway. Schu had a tangle with Trulli, I think, I've been focussing on the cricket.

Kimi wins!!! Well done!! The first of many!

And Renault and Alonso prove they have a pretty impressive car this year with pole and third place.

Well done to Kimi - he drove a solid race, kept his nose clean and got the rewards. Like they said in the commentary - once he breaks through for his maiden win, more will come in quick succession.

It was a shame that Renault went out just to qualify - given what happened to Schumacher, Coulthard and Montoya, Alonso could have given the win a real shake, not just for the podium. But is was good not to see Schumacher or Coulthard on the podium.:D

And I don't know if it was a Channel 10 thing everywhere, but with about 15 laps to go, CH10 just cut to a black screen, and stayed like that for about 20 mins. Then they finally came back on, and the drivers were getting out of their cars for the presentation. Did I miss anything in that last part of the race? (one good thing - I saw more of the cricket than I thought I would)

Was fine in Adelaide.

Nothing major really happened. Button stuffed up and lost a few places...that was about it really.

I didn't lose the picture, but you didn't miss much expect Button dropped 2 spots on the last lap.Thats the 2nd year in a row his race has stuffed up on the last lap at Malaysia.
