I read recently that the AFL wants every club to wear an alternate 'clash' jumper. With all the stink Collingwood is kicking up about this, I wonder if they recall that they have indeed worn different jumpers in their history. A 'clash' jumper to avoid clashing with the Kangaroos in fact. Every club has at one point worn an alternate jumper, except one. ESSENDON. For 134 years, our jumper has been black with a red sash. That has never changed. The members have to vote on this issue, so how many of you would give in to the AFLs stance, scrap our history, our heritage and vote yes? And how many of you would stay true, and vote no?

Definate no, easiest vote I've ever had to make.

I remember being at the last game against Melbourne and thinking to myslef that this clash is not that bad, wasn't very hard to watch at all IMO. Only the St. Kilda game was a little difficult.

Jesus Christ it embarrasses me to see the small-mindedness of some of out supporters.

Get with the times.

Alternate jumpers are needed when we are the away team against Melbourne and St.Kilda. To NOT want one is backwards.

Black with a red sash will always be the colours and design for 90% of our games, but what is going to happen if we change it for a couple of games? Is the change for those two games going to make us a poorer team? Is it going to affect the way we play? Is it going to make people not barrack for us? No, no and no. All it will do is make it easier to differentiate between the teams, which helps both the supporters and the players. That is a fact that cannot be argued. Every other sport does it. You know why? Because of common-sense, that's why.

I think it's pathetic that our club is the wolrd record holder for not changing their jumper. What kind of pathetic, irrelevant record is this? That's not something to be proud of. If anything it's something to be ashamed of, since it makes us look backwards and resistant to change. Essendon is a progressive club, and we should have been the first club to do this back in the 60's. Instead, pathetically, we look like being the last.

The sooner this is implemented so that the people who resist it can FINALLY see that it's no big deal, it will be a happy day.

You're not serious are you buddy?

Changing a jumper scraps history does it? History is history. It happened and can't be changed. You can't "scrap" history and heritage. Stop being over-emotional.

The jumper change will happoen and when it does it will be a good thing. What possible negative things can possibly come out of it? it won't affect our on-field performances (if anything it will help.) All it will do is make it easier to tell between the teams.

Having gone to every Essendon v Melbourne and Essendon v St Kilda game in the last 3 years, I'm yet to have the slightest bit of difficulty telling the teams apart. So I fail to see why we need one.

What's wrong with having an alternate jumper? I think it's a brilliant idea. I don't want Port Adelaide wearing an alternate jumper when we host Collingwood. It's Collingwood who should wear an alternate. If they don't like, then forfeit the game.

Plus, can you imagine how much money each club would make by having an alternate jumper???? Clubs would make a ton of money from, even Collingwood. Why? Because fans are loyal to their club and well fork out the $100 to support their club.

We don't need the extra revenue....

AFL just wants it to give to the clubs who can't survive without handouts.

I'm with Dan.
It amazes me that people care enough about this sort of stuff. Footy is footy, it is just a game. The Essendon Football Club is one of the proudest, and most historically-rich sporting clubs in the world. The jumper doesn't define what this club is about, no, quite a big muscular organ situated in the left side of the rib cage of our players does that. At the end of the day, on whatever uniform we wear, the blood, the sweat, the tears are all the same.

Next time we play Melbourne, we should wear the skinny-sash heritage strip, and see if people still complain.

I think it might just be enough.

Man U?? The Yankees??

Every sporting team in the known universe is beneath us.

I get sick to the stomach when i go to games just because i have to mingle with the common filth known as opposition supporters.

How dare a foot soldier of the "unwashed" try and dictate what we should do...be gone you peasant!

don't think its needed really, i mean melbourn is the only team there is a clash with, and if we have to have one for every away game well so be it, but other than that, we don't need one.

Essendon should wear a silver guernsey with a red stripe that would make a huge difference and to me black and silver are basically the same colour.

Essendon should on have to wear it against Melbourne and St.Kilda (WHEN THEY ARE THE AWAY TEAM) so that is like 2 times a year tops

We should change our away jumper to this:

Next time Dustin Fletcher lines up next to Neitz, he can state the bleeding obvious.. without even opening his mouth!
