Interested to note a number of clubs participating in altitude training as Collingwood have done . I remember during the 80s it came to attention because of the enormous success of the Kenyan distance runners.
Would like to no if Carlton are going down this path and what your thoughts are.

Generally takes us a few years to catch onto the pies ideas. I can't think of why you would want to do what most elite endurance runners have been doing for 30 years let alone last years AFL premiers.

no money. no ideas

The effects of altitude only last a certain time and would be long gone by the season's start.

That's demonstrated in the research. There are other aspects of the camps that would be most useful though.

They've been doing that camp for years... and now because they've won the premiership everyone is now going to think their regime is the answer.

They won the premiership due to good bench rotation management and a game plan that they've been working on for years... had nothing to do with altitude work.

In fact I would dare say their are other teams out there with better fitness than the Pies who have not done the altitude work.

Waste of money... much better invest in brain reprogramming for our team.. for when they all come into a game with the right attitude they can beat everyone!

Nothing more than a team bonding exercise and testing out your players' resolve and mental toughness.

Similar to Hawthorn's Kokoda trips.

You wouldn't want your players coming home on a Qantas flight.

Why go all the way to Colorado when you can get a latte and a meal afterwards from Jason Johnson's Visy Park establishment?

Charged with the task of developing an elite training and administration centre, project directors, Stratcorp Consulting (one of Australia's leading leisure and sports consultancy firms), enlisted the expertise of KPT to provide CFC with the biggest altitude training room in Australia. Designed to accommodate 12 athletes, the 36-square metre altitude training facility provides CFC with a safe and easy-to-use, state-of-the-art altitude training environment.

"The status and performance of the altitude training facility can be controlled and monitored locally, or off-site," says Lawton.

"This allows the Carlton training staff to schedule altitude training sessions on site, and also provides us with the ability to monitor the system off-site and ensure it is operating at an optimal level."

Cheers TG .

Didn't turn out well last time one of our players got high for training sessions

There might be a benefit from altitude training, but geez, more time should be spent on skills and goal kicking which decide games. Yet we hear they're supposed to take too much out of the players' legs. Trudging up and down mountains or along the Kokoda trail must do wonders for their calves and quads.

:D
