I clicked "Like" but only because there's no "Love" button.

P.S: I worked in 3074 for 5 years in the 90s. :)

How did you make it out? I thought after ten years I was out last week but alas complications keep me here. Tonight is the last night, I'm busting outta here tomorrow no matter what!:D

Our country was started partly on the consequences of 'live or die', draconian legislation in old England saw fathers and mothers transported out here for stealing food to keep their children alive :(

The ultimate irony of that Jon is that, if today England and Australia were both some other nation's colonies, I know which country criminals would be sent to for punishment, and which would be a play ground for the rich and "well to do". :D

Sorry to get so OT.

Good luck OA!

I worked for a furniture manufacturer just off Mahoneys Road. 5 years is how long it took me to finish my degree (part-time) and get the hell out!!!!!

Funnily, I'd love to start making furniture now. Doing things with your hands is good for the soul. I've gone full circle, and sorry to get so "new-age" and OT...

Yep jathanas, my first wife was an English girl from Coventry and her family came out here when she was still in school, they all adored the place and wouldn't dream of returning.

Overseas ventures can cost a club as much as $850,000.

Assuming a trip of two weeks, 40 players + 15 support staff, economy flights ~ $1500 return Melbourne to Phoenix (November is off peak) ... $850,000 would work out to nearly $1000 per person per day. That's insane!

The only way it would cost anywhere near that is ...

(1) If business class travel is involved.

Or

(2) The ACME Sports Altitude Travel Company offered to improve the performance of your $9.1 million investment (ie: salary cap) for the bargain price of only $850,000! (Unlikely given we have our own travel agency)

Or

(3) Some bean counter with a vested interest has inflated the numbers (eg: include coaches salaries - which would be paid regardless)

Or

(4) Sports venue hire is ***a lot*** more than I've guessed (my guess is around $1000 per hour)

Our net operating profit for FY 31 Oct 2013 was $5.225 million. Going on a camp would therefore have reduced our net profit by over 16%. As the article points out $850,000 can get you a lot of extra coaching, skills development, etc. The club employing a kicking coach (Nathan Chapman) this year is probably just one example of where they feel the money saved could be better used and I have to agree given our mediocre skills.

We're a not-for-profit in the business of winning footy games. We've got ~ $24 million in the bank ($35 million if you add the $11 million government grant).

I just can't see Perty saying to Bucks "Look mate, you either have the altitude training or the skills coach, it's one or the other, you can't have both."

- Brisbane, Carlton, Gold Coast, St Kilda, Essendon, Western Bulldogs, and North Melbourne have all organised altitude camps this preseason.

There are a few logistics needed to fly ~ 55 people to one place for a two week period (flights booked, accommodation reserved, charter buses booked, training venue reserved, etc, etc. There's a fair chance St Kilda's altitude training was organised while Daveron was still with them.

(Port chose Dubai's heat over altitude)

Soft. If they wanted a real heat challenge they should have flown to Melbourne :P
