Dont get me wrong. I'd like our mighty club to stand on its own two feet. However should we 'seriously' consider amalgamating with another victorian club? Carlton are the obvious choice at the moment given their predicament.

A question like this stirs emotion obviously and the condemnation and opposition to this idea would be huge, but consider for a moment the advantages.

  • A victorian club with 50/60 thousand + members.
  • Huge revenue posibilities
  • A playing list strong enough to consistently compete in finals.
  • A club the envy of all other victorian clubs
  • A club that every footy newbie wants to join
If it really was considered as an 'amalgamation' where two forces join as one. Not a merger, not a 'take-over', would you at least contemplate it?

Yes there are disadvantages. Did anyone ever do a study on how many Fitzroy supporters either 1) followed the Lions 2) switched clubs 3) stopped following football ?

What would we be called? Where would we play? What are our colours etc etc. These are all questions too horrible to contemplate for most avid footy fanatics. But would a 3peat be worth it?

Only if we get to pick their list, be given allowances from the AFL for taking over a basket case, get both our debts wiped, still call ourselves the Richmond tigers.

The concession i will give carlton is that for clash games we change our strip to Gold Sash on navy Blue. That's it.

Why would we do that? We are improving everywhere, Carlton are still in the middle of a downward spiral.
You're a few years too late to have suggested this;)

carlton are the enemy. wouldnt do it unless it was a complete take over like peejay says (which carlton would never agree to). i for one would never follow a team labled the richmond blues or carlton tigers. if we were still the richmond tigers you would think about it. and that poxy cfc logo would have to go too.

actually a case where we completely took them over i would be in favour of that because it would be the ultimate revenge.

i think its a great idea! oh but a few proviso's...

1. The new team is called "RICHMOND TIGERS"
2. The new strip is YELLOW AND BLACK (maybe a carlton emblem on the shorts somewhere around the back would be suitable)
3. The home ground is PUNT ROAD OVAL
and 4. The new players will be of our choosing (imagine a midfield with lids/tambo/murphy/gibbs  )

put it on the table!

I would never want that.

If it had to happen, it would be that Carlton are affectively GONE, but some of the players jumped ship, we get to use their training facilities, etc.

Perhaps we could make Richmond one of our VFL sides. :)

Only if you want success in the VFL & not the AFL, but that sounds stupid.

Who'd want that, honestly? AFL > VFL.

Why would the weaker, crap team play in the seniours?
That quite a strange strategy you have parrot;)

I would imagine that most Carlton supporters would be just as horrified as Richmond supporters at the prospect. I don't think the AFL would allow it either.
It would be like mcdonalds amalgamating with hungry jacks, or kfc and red rooster etc etc

Still, a less vomit inducing prospect than a suggestion of an amalgamation with collingwood...

You guys are dreaming to be even mentioned in the same sentence as Carlton, let alone be 'Amalgamated' with them.

The 'club' you are referring to here would no longer be your club.

We are far too strong for a pathetic joke like your club:thumbsu:

A victorian club with 50/60 thousand + members. HALF THE FANS OF EACH CLUB WOULDN'T FOLLOW THE RICHMOND BLUES. WE WOULD STILL GET 30,000-40,000 MEMBERS ONLY
Huge revenue posibilities-WE MADE A GREAT PROFIT LAST YEAR
A playing list strong enough to consistently compete in finals. WE ARE ABOUT TO PLAY FINALS
A club the envy of all other victorian clubs-WITH NO HISTORY? I HAVEN'T GONE THROUGH 25 YEARS FOLLOWING THE RICHMOND BLUES
A club that every footy newbie wants to join-WHO WANTS TO JOIN A CLUB WITH NO HISTORY AND SINGLE IDENTITY? JUST ANOTHER CLUB

My life is about following the Richmond Tigers. 100 years of history ;)
