I have no doubt that Jessica is the better singer and absolutely deserves to win tomorrow. Absolutely incredible voice.

I'm not a huge fan of Phillip. Sure he has his own unique style but I just don't think the two can be compared. Regardless, it's not about what I think - it's how the American public sees it and clearly they love him so he is every chance of winning.

I still can't believe last week's result. Joshua clearly had the best voice in the competition IMO.

Will be very interesting to see what happens tomorrow. Regardless of who the winner is they both clearly have serious careers ahead of them in the music industry.

Tell me about it.Joshua should've been there.....Last night was up there, for me, with the Scotty/Lauren finale last year as one of the most boring in its 11 year history.

Ive made no secret Im not a fan of Phillip winning for a number of reasons but he does have the better winning single. I do expect him to win unfortunately but I think Jessica will be successful regardless of whether she wins or not

No, final performance show. They vote for the next 24 hours and the Finale is on Fox 8 10am tomorrow and again 7.30pm.

Just flicked it on now, the performance show is on it seems, missed half of it though, spew.

proposal was cringe-worthy with him naming the jewellery company who gave him the free ring(Im guessing) to use.

The song they have given Phillip to sing is a great song if he wins. I really really like it, definitely my sort of song.

Well Phillip has won it. Surprised really, he was the better musician, but Jessica had the better voice. Poor guy broke down at the end during his performance, fair enough really.

Thought it was a good finale. Liked seeing John Fogerty as well as Neil Diamond. JLo's song was terrible.

The finale was pretty good.

Someone should tell Chaka Kahn not to wear tight body suits LOL.

With all that great live music it was a shame Rihanna and JLo mimed their songs. I agree JLo was not great.

Hollie Cavanagh took to the stage for a rendition of "Never Walk Alone," whereupon she was joined by Jordin Sparks and a full choir, naturally. It was a good performance.

Jessica, teaming with Jennifer Holliday for a rousing rendition of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," with Jennifer making terrifying and distracting faces as she performed. It was awesome to see Jessica holding her own opposite a Broadway legend who would've blown most performers right off the stage.

There seemed to be a lot of the boys singing which was odd. Deandre was getting a good go too in the group numbers.

Phillip was conspicuously absent during the night as even Jessica sang songs with the group which he didn't. Maybe his health issues?

So Phillip won as I thought he would. Personally I don't think he was the best performer/singer of the series but it is a popularity contest more than a singing contest. let's get that straight. The White Guy With Guitar strikes again! Looks like that stereotypical streak on "American Idol" isn't being broken any time soon.

But overall I thoroughly enjoyed the show

Good finale.

Thought Phillip held his own with John Fogerty and who doesn't love a CCR sing-along? Didn't mind the duet he and Jessica did either.

Loved Jessica's version of I will always love you more than the last time she did it. Absolutely superb tonight. Couldn't get into her song with Jennifer Holliday, mostly because I was imagining falling asleep and being eaten by Holliday. Scary woman.

Marked out over Neil Diamond. I'm a huge fan and I saw him last year in Australia, my second time seeing him live.

As impressed as I am with Diamond at 71 years of age, to see Tyler rock out like he does at 64, just blows me away.

Was touched by Phillip's emotion at the end. He acted so casual during the season but to see how much it meant just showed me he lives for his music. He's a unique individual and I think he has a bit of depth and maybe more creativity than your McCreery's and Allen's. We will see.

Here's one for you ODN. Thanks for some great discussion over the series I have looked forward to reading your comments each week.

Here's Crystal.....

Yup, see you next year. AI and Apprentice over within a day of each other.

Love Crystal. Was listening to her album on Music Hub a couple of nights ago.

Must have been tough to be in unrelenting pain for the whole season.

After initially thinking he was aloof and uncaring about the process, I did an about face, realised he is very emotional, very normal.

One of his main detractors on mtv.com also did an about face at finale and realised that most of what he thought about Phillip probably wasn't true. He recognised that Phillip is not one of those contestants that have been on stage since they were 5 and dreaming of winning AI.

Phillip for his part says he is not a good singer compared to most. He does feel the music though and even 'Home' is not his choice of song, feeling too much pop for his liking. He tried to get one of of his originals to be used but there was not enough time. At least we know he has song he has written ready to go. He intends to go down the line of jazz rock/accoustic rock.

What I am reading is that it wasn't his looks that won people over, wasn't so much the teenage vote (all over the AI site, it seems the teens were predominantly Jessica and Hollie fans .... the way it was with my teenage daughter btw) but people related to Phillip's 'realness'. One guy talked about his church group being big fans of Phillip and they were aged between 50-80 years of age.

We probably do him a disservice talking about the teenage girls given all I have read. He may have won because he is humble and that is still not a great thing in a singing contest, but the package does count and people are more prepared to support humility.

I am still not sold on Phillip to be honest because if this truly was a singing contest then he shouldn't have won it IMHO. Also, AI is not meant to be a contest to find the best musician so that again is not reason enough for me to think he is a worthy winner. But despite AI trying to be a singing contest in truth it is a popularity contest and he won that. Lot's of criticism in the press about how another indie rock clone ("white guy with guitar" they are calling it) has won again. I tend to agree with that.

But I will wait until I hear him do his own material to form my final opinion about him. He is a god awful cover singer so maybe his own stuff will show his talent more to me.

But having a bit of controversy over the winner is good for the franchise really.

An aside - Adam Lamberts new album is great!

American Idol to me is designed to find an Idol, a singer and a performer. Phillip could be the first but is not really the other two.

One thing about P2 is he is different to anybody else on this year, and he is still quite different to the other WGWGs. His tone is different, his respect for the music over al other aspects is different and as he says, the way he plays the guitar is different. It's interesting, he sings through his guitar rather than using the guitar to compliment his voice.

I believe he has more chance of staying true to himself than most winners and of being completely original.

Many people find Springsteen's 'Nebraska' album to be dull but they are not into the storytelling and the emotion behind it. Phillip could end up somewhere in the more laid back range of Springsteen's catalogue.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying Phillip has no talent. I just need more time and to hear him perform his own stuff before I make up my mind about him completely. But good luck to him though on winning AI but like all those before him time will tell where his career goes from here.

I am listening to James Durbin's album at the moment he released last year and it is a pretty good effort. The boy can rock it out that's for sure.

I'm just trying to advocate for the kid. Unfair that any winner is lumped into a 5-some based on physical characteristics and musical ability. Have to wait (as you said) to see if they go on with it.

The 'the show is rigged, I'll never watch Idol again' group are becoming tedious. I fell for it too when Lambert lost, but he sang more songs I liked, and rocked out more so I was compelled to notice him more than the others. I probably should have listened without bias to Allen and maybe listened to some of his stuff since to see if there was merit behind his win.

I have listened to Kris Allen & David Cook and haven't really taken to them as they sound a bit cookie cutter to me.

Hey if any of these singers (winners or not) go on and just have some success in the US without much OS recognition then that is still a pretty good career. There are Aussie bands/singers who are only really popular here and nowhere else and they have good careers in the industry and made some good coin in the process.

I think it is folly to expect any of these performers to be world wide smashes as that only happens to a small percentage of musical performers anyway. The majority never achieve success like that. Also some performers who do become very big don't necessarily do it on their first or even second album. Success has to be earned in conjunction with chips falling your way. AI has given these guys a bit of a head start in the music industry and now it is up to them to see if they can maintain that or fall back to the pack.

Arguably most fall back to the pack pretty quickly.

I went back and looked at the youtube videos and listened to some studio versions of all of Phillip's songs this series. There is plenty of gold in there. Some well known songs that he mixed up may have been treated harshly because he wasn't doing a copy cat version, but plenty of those are pretty damn good too.

What I noticed more the second time around where I could enjoy the performance and not cast a discerning eye, was his stage presence and the way he works with his band.
