Well fellow idolaters the new season of American Idol starts tonight on Fox8 so batten down the hatches and let's get ready for hopefully another entertaining season.

This thread is for any comments about the program but please do not post spoilers or use the "shh!" boxes to wrap your spoilers in so it gives people the option not to look rather than having it ruined for them. This is especially relevant when results programs are aired in the US before here.

Tonight promises a virtual marathon with three hours of audition programs to kick the season off.

god how young do some of those kids look. Personally I think 15 is too young as an age minimum as they never have any life experience to put into songs and they get found out in the end if they make it to the top 12. Some of those girls were picked purely on looks over voice which you could see wasn't impressing Jaylo. I LMFAO when the miner kid exited the room. He looked like he needed his mummy so much.

The only annoying thing about the audition shows is that they don't actually show too many auditions and all the back story crap gets a bit boring. The chick who lives in a tent was about the worse thing I have seen them do. That guy at the end of the Savannah auditions who did thriller on his guitar was awesome.

Just sat through the first ep on Fox8 at noon and gave up...its still going on as I type.

Liked the 'joy dance'.

Tent girl...tip of the iceberg of whats going on over there for some...

The winner this year is the first audition, the 17 yr old that looks 12yrs old.

I've been onboard previous seasons. Not sure I can watch this again. i'm sort of over these type of shows. But i'll probably be eating my words as the season goes on. :D

I watched the first few episodes online because of the clash with the Tennis, and so far the quality has been pretty good.

How many eps have they shown on fox so far?

I'll start watching the fox coverage next week.

The auditions are most enjoyable as they open themselves up more than the performance shows.

And as far as Jim Carrey's daughter's concerned, she's a dead ringer for Jim all the way down to the teeth.

That single mother with the 5 year old daughter who did the Whitney Houston song in San Diego was awesome. Pretty hot too. Does power ballads with a big voice and hits the high notes. This years Pia perhaps.

So she will inexplicably be voted off in week 5?

Bailey - the girl who had been to Hollywood week when she was 16 but is now 21 and having another go - she could win this thing. Great voice and attractive, just what they are looking for.

So she will inexplicably be voted off in week 5?

Yeah probably. I make no promises as to how far someone will go. She was pitch perfect though and the judges were blown away. I suspect she might have more variety in her where as Pia really was a ballad queen on the show and not much else. Hopefully this one can rock out a bit as well.

Will also depend on how much the audience connects to these people, and whether they can sing from the various catalogues.

I'm really hoping there will be no standout country performers this year. As talented as they were last year, I am dying to see something different.

Pia's problem was she could only sing power ballads. That's what got her voted off in the end. Great voice, nice looking, but not versatile.

The way the American public votes is anyone's guess. If someone like Scotty can win last year when he was such a light weight then that says it all. Then of course there was the famous Adam Lambert scenario where he only lost because he was gay. So it will be interesting to see how the American Public screw it up this year too.

I think the country performers are too one dimensional myself. It would be nice to see a young hip black man or woman win it for a change.
