"Ah'm gooin' ta 'ighbury in abou' fifteen mineets".

Basketball cards. Basketball hats. Basketball t-shirts. Basketball singlets. I had all the Charlotte Hornetts crap. Did I ever watch a match though? No.

meh i reckon its because of all the crap on our TVs, seriously, the amount of american shyte we have on our TVs is totally ridiculous. We're NOT america, yet the networks wont support australian TV, such as stingers pffft!

A few years ago Australian children nominated Michael Jordan as their sports idol. Thats right, not Dawn Fraser, not Herb Elliot, not Walter Lindrum, not Hubert Opperman. This is where the rot set in.

As for the order of dates? I'll have ketchup on mine.
Cause Jordan owns, not the fact he's american
I'm not going to worship Harry Kewell if he's austrlia's best import, I still reckno he's a ********.

Haha I was the same. I used to have upperdeck basketball cards, a jordan top, cross colours, and a starter cap. We thought America was grand. The shame....

heh I had to choose a song in Yr 9 English and talk about its meaning. I choose a Public Enemy song..the shame. At the time I was more into the whole sound and production and not the actual lyrics (that happened a few years later and i decided I would not pursue the insightful and thought provoking tones of Flav and The Chuckster) so I didnt know what was going on, plus i was a bit of a dumb crunt at this stage. sigh.

To this day I can still picture the look on my teachers face and squirm. Suffice to say I didn't get a high mark.

See what Americanisation does to a fragile and growing mind!

:p :o

I dont think it's the internet which is responsible for this americanisation. 95% is attributable to Hollywood and countless American shows on tv.

The one thing i do like though is their spelling, makes a lot more sense whilst some of our words take on a ye olde English type style. Color, gray, jail, visualize, estrogen cf colour, grey, gaol, visualise, oestrogen etc..

Yep same. Basketball cards of players I wouldn't have had a clue about...memphis grizzlies basketballs...all this when I was about 9-10 and wasn't in the slightest interested in bball. Dear me...

I don't agree. America is bastardising the English language, and I can't stand it. I prefer the 'proper' English spelling anyday.

Some of the American spelling doesn't make sense to me at any rate. For your example, oestrogen - doesn't the 'oe' indicate an 'ee' sound (as in east) rather than the 'eh' (as in west)? And I though oestrogen was supposed to be pronounced so the start sounds like 'east'.

English is a ridiculous language anyway, it'll never make any phonetic (or grammatical!) sense. But Americanisation gives me the s****.

Hate 24/7
What I hate even more 24th July being 7/24. Totally confusing - I can handle it after the 13th of any month, but until then it's impossible to work out.

What's that? I know there's an Ashburton Grove ...

if we want this to change we have to fight against it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we could try a australiasation or a germanisation could be fun!!!!!!!!

Sometime in the late 18th century, the newly formed American government had a vote as to what would be the official language of the new country.

The choices: English or German.

The cap of Americanisation is infiltration of Budweiser.

The single worst beer ever produced. Goes down like water because IT IS WATER. Tepid, tasteless, urine.

Anyone who drinks that should have the bottle smashed over their heads.

Makes VB drinkable.

Nah it doesnt imply an ee sound, the other example i'm thinking of is edema (american) and oedema (UK/Aust), which is pronounced like the e in west. I used to wonder why i could never find the word 'oedema' in any indexes

oh, and touche' Stealth Bomber :D
