He would be the perfect type of player we need a Richmond.

Saints first should nearly be enough for OOC. Expect they will offer more money than WCE can just like they did Shiel. If another turns it down they they are gonna start looking like Freo.

Kent and our 2017 first? just an idea happy for a debate

Depends on what that first is.

Keep in mind Gaff was a pick 4 and has proven himself worthy of that selection, especially considering he is a couple of years away from the prime age.

Any pick is speculative so a proven pick 4 is worth a speculative pick 2 or 3.

Would you trade pick 3 for Dean Kent and pick 11 (seems a possible pick for Dee's)? I probably wouldn't.

Heard more ridiculous trades though

I don't want to entertain a trade myself. I'd rather keep Gaff and not worry about picks. Pity what I want doesn't mean a thing

We don't have a first rounder this year. I'd love Gaff but we're no chance.

Has he still got potential to improve? Seems a tidy player, with a good engine and decent skills but I'm not sure he's worth a Top 5 Pick.

If an 23 year old, All Australian, former pick 4, B&F winner is not worth a top 5 pick than I don't know who is.

He might be worth it; he might not. It's nice having those accolades but hasn't had the same impact this season.

He's a consistent midfielder, with a great tank and provides great run but he's not in the super elite yet.

Who's saying the guy you'd get with the top 5 pick would be any better?

I reckon if we took a player at pick 5 and he ended up and all Australian and B&F at 23 we'd be rapt!

Look, even though I'm liable to overrate Gaff somewhat as an Eagle's supporter, if you have a 23 year old elite mid who has already racked up an AA nod, you don't trade that away for picks. Maybe if they were another few years down the track, but at this stage, that is a losing proposition.

The odds that you will get a better result from any given Pick 5 are actually kind of shit, and even if you do you still need another couple years to get up to the point where this player already is, and when you're in (and don't laugh) a potential premiership window that's a nonsensical option.

I'd trade our first currently pick 2 for Gunston in a heart beat.
West coast with kennedy and poor mans gunston in darling. Lycett and Hill/Cripps/Lecras. Plus with their midfield struggles wouldnt.

Gaff is a hard worker. The most well rounded midfielder and consistent as well. They would ask the world for him

He's also building his game inside as well. Lots of scope to improve there, but he's not your average outside midfielder.

Simmo mentioned that he's one of the toughest guys he has coached- he often plays sore, yet he's the guy that's still gut running to create an option at the 29 minute mark of the last when we are winning or losing.

When it's his turn to go, he goes. He will do that even after the knock on Saturday. I am yet to see him take a backward step, even from day 1 when he was tiny.

I am obviously biased given I support wc, but objectively, 23 year old AA wingman don't grow on trees. He's durable, as well, no known injury issues yet, hasn't missed in years. If he decided to go home, you would have to have a pick somewhere between 5-8 at the bare minimum, I would have thought. I doubt we would let him go for less than that.

Neither is the top 5 draft pick ;)

That's what you'd have to weigh up, realistically.

Is he worth Pick 5? Quite possibly.
Is he worth Pick 3? Not sure.
Is he worth 1 or 2? You wouldn't think so

He's a good player with an exceptional season behind him and like Beams, he's a sure-fire A-Grader to inject into the midfield. If St Kilda was keen I'm sure they'd be happy to part with their first rounder.

Can I ask West Coast fans why they are mostly very confident he will stay?
Channel 7 did a segment on Gaff last weeks today tonight , Gaff basically said he wants to play out his career at WCE , he is happy ... if he went home I would be very surprised !!
Yeah, this.

I know that players can be decent bullshit artists, but at the same time the impression we get is that he is very, very happy in his environs at the moment.

Some serious low ball ratings in this thread. You don't get a 23 year old coming off an AA/B&F year for unders. Easily worth an early first round + late first/early second rounder.

He might be out of contract, but quite a few clubs around the bottom of the ladder with large war chests, so if he picks a higher up side they won't be able to push the PSD.
