Andrew Mackie???

As he generates so much run off half back he will be a bigger loss than what most will think.

Agree - he is a key go to man off half back.

With him out , Wojinski unillikely and Scarlett likely to get the job on Lloyd, our 3 best run out from half back won't be there.

Must admit to be a trifle concerned over this game.

it will be interesting to see if Taylor can play a similar sort of game to Mackie or whether he is more of a stopper

I wouldn't be too worried if we did lose this game. It will certainly give us an idea of just how good our depth is. Its also just even more experience for the young blokes. Not having Ottens and Mackie will definately hurt us though...

i think it's great for young westy to come up against hille this w-e. on top of what he would've got out of playing against lade-brogan.
you have to look at the positives of missing stars i guess

No one really has any idea. Was a surprise today when announced, so we could take guesses but it's all conjecture really.

Im very worried bout the bombers this year, the pace they have in their side right now could take the competition by storm.

With a strained calf, how many weeks is he looking at being out?
He has a strained quad, not a calf... There's a massive difference. Quad is above the knee, calf is below (for all you Essendon supporters who may be a little dim)

I would. Bombers will surprise a few but Port at home are MUCH tougher and we handled them. No excuses here.

Couldn't agree more.

If Wojcinski is actually coming back into the side his pace and ball carry will offset Mackie's loss to a degree (although Mackie uses the ball a bit better).

Am I hearing correctly that Taylor also has a bit of toe about him? (the couple of times I have seen him he looks more a stay-at-home type rather than take-them-on - might be a confidence thing at the moment). With his height and (potential) run, the side should have Mackie's absence covered.

Once again, a good test and another chance for some of the "fringe" players to get a taste of the 'big show'.

GO CATTERS!!

I'm not as concerned about the Bombers as some of the posters here. It's all very well to have pace but when you turn the ball over as often as they do it just makes it much easier for us to score on the rebound. Cats by 6 goals if we come to play.

Tend to agree. Essendons 'finish' is not very good at the moment. Skills have improved but a long way to go yet.

Essendon ARE fast through the middle but the test will be whether they can withstand Geeling muscle in the middle. If they can't it's all over!

Essendon might be fast, but Port are fast AND skilful AND have the best ruck combo in the comp. We've had a ten day break compared to six.

Essendon do have a good record early in the year against finalists from the previous year though, and they play the Dome very well indeed. Having said that, they have a team which concedes goals very quickly and a defence that is highly overrated (waits for the obligatory numbnut to come out with the "Fletcher is the best defender in the comp" line). I had some concerns earlier in the week but I think we should win comfortably.

Apparently it's a 2-3 week injury.
Mackie himself said he wants to be back for Saints game Round 4 but said they won't be taking any chances...

ARE YOU SERIOUS?
2-3 WEEKS!!
NOOOOOO.
=(

on a good note..
great game by the boys today..

i am seriously still in shock by the playing style of our boys.
its just a heads up on the start of the season.
