Having watched the game twice now it has become obvious that along with Enright he instigates a lot of our backline run and his penertrating and accurate kicks to the advantage of our forwards inevitably lead to scoring opportunities.
Has matured into a quality footballer who seems to also have leadership written all over him.
Marvellous what a few year and 70 -80 odd games can do.Wasn't so long ago people were calling for his head.
Looking forward to another 6-8 years of great footy from him...:)

Another player Bomber was playing out of position.

I have to say though, when Mackie lets a clanger rip it's always a massive clanger. Usually always a kick to centre the ball resulting in a direct turnover and scoring opportunity. If he can cut that out and go a bit harder at the pill he'll make AA at some stage.

sometimes he has been a bit slow to kick the ball and gets caught or coughs it up. But I agree this guy was seriously a trade prospect a few years ago. But he turned it around during that horrible 2006 season when they played him on the wing instead of the forward line. He finally could play the way he likes, to run and kick. At the end of 2006 he was one of the few players you could say had a reasonable year.

He is now easily in our top 22 and he is still as skinny as a pole.

He is just one of those blokes that doesn't fill out.

I mean i don't want him to compromise his pace and stamina but he is too skinny to be used effectively as a stopper...

that being said he is in my Supercoach team and i am expecting a big year;)

From an outsider's persective I really rate him - like someone allready said, if he could put on 5-10kg muscle you could see him playing the Harley 3rd tall role (he does now on occassion), instead of the 4th/5th (with Milburn) defender.

I liken him to Birchall for us. Good kick, runs well with the ball, attacking HBF, who has the height that you just want to make him take the 3rd tall. Both teams (Hodge/Brown, Harley/Milburn) have other options currently more adept at playing the role.

After 3 years of Birchall 'bulking' and focusing on his marking/spoiling capabilities, it appears we've now "given up" on that hope (2nd/3rd KPD) and are working at pushing him more into the midfield - do you see something similar happening with Mackie?

He isn't there to go hard at the ball. He is an outside player.

Seriously, you must be awesome man. I am flabbergasted you are not head coach at the cattery.

Keep up the good work superior one!
I predict a big year for Andrew Mackie this year ,really think this could be his best year so far, also i think he was recruited as a forward?nice play in the nab cup

I think I'd prefer out defenders to attack the ball rather than wait for someone else to feed it out to them. He's not Pendlebury after all.

fantastic game on friday night. i recall him playing this roll to great affect so many times last year. Such a beautiful disposal most of the time. the kind of stuff dreams are made of for guys like Lonergan and Hawkins and Gamble. I recall a few precision passes by him after his trademark run from defensive 50. Love watching it

I'm not the biggest fan of Mackie but last night he was good, some sublime delivery into the forward line.

Mackie is a cool, athletic, hard at it, awesome gunn quarterback type, the play-maker. Him and Enwright coming out of defence, with long ball passes will chop up any defence if the forwards co-cperate by moving about.

He could improve further by disposing of the ball earlier. I have noticed that he does have the ball smothered off his foot considerably more often than any other player in the team. But his delivery is usually long, flat and accurate. He looks a beautifully balanced player running out of defence and kicking long to position.
