Amazing effort from him that no doubt set us up nicely going into the second half. Took Scarlett out of the game, hit the score board with 2 goals and it could have been more. Also meant that Monfries didn't have to play as a defensive forward.

Was shattering to see him go down just before half time, looked visibly shattered himself. At least you know he gives 100% when he goes out there.

Yeah I'm eating my socks over my comments re: Welsh a couple of weeks ago. A role as a defensive forward could work a treat again and I like the idea of Monfries being given a bit more freedom around the ground. The change in what other teams expect from him could make him that bit more unpredictable.

A great job on Scarlett early. Preventing him from setting up helped immensely.

This is just proof that I am going to shut up and trust the coaches from now on :)
Good job Andrew.

He was great! I believe his early effort set the standard for the boys for the entire tonight.

If he wasn't injured, he'd be keeping his spot without a doubt. Very sad for Welshy.

Also for everyone that was doubting his selection earlier, need to show a little more faith in the coaches and the selection panel. Clearly there was a reason for his selection.

Well played Andrew, you did a fantastic job. I had my doubts but now I'm sad you are injured.

It was good, yeah, but that often happens when you put a player in a different position first-up, then they fall back into old habits. Doesn't change my views on him; he is past it and the sooner we get rid of him, the better. Was disappointed to see him injured though. Don't like to see anyone get injured so much.

Really?

A club needs leaders, players to show the young ones the way. Exactly what he did tonight IMO.

Also now that he is injured, it may be career ending!
To get back to where he was and the future risk of him re-injuring himself. Retirement may be not far off. He may know it already, he was very upset.
You may get your wish.

Looked comfortable, looked confident, and was executing well. Just our luck that he goes down as he starts to find a bit of form. Still, a very good effort from him, and I hope we see more of it later on.

I think playing very well before going down with that horrible and unfortunate injury may be a blessing in disguise for him.

Some have already claimed that it could spell the end for him but I think it's the opposite due to his efforts. At least now the coaches know they've got something to hold onto when he recovers - it's been said that this club needs leaders and he's been voted as VC, could have a year left in him if he wants it bad enough.

Considering what he's shown (after coming back from a previous injury) - I'd say he does, and the rest of the team does too.

I thought he was cooked but he proved he could be valuable in the forward line. I still think his cooked as a midfielder or a back.

I'm guessing he took over from Winderlich as the forward line general, who to play this role now? We're running out of leaders who can play the role, in fact, not sure we have anyone left.

Very good first half but the injury was a blessing in disguise as there was no way he was going to run out the game.

With Colyer coming on it injected that bit of pace we needed at the end to steady and get a few goals back when they were coming hard.

As Hirdy said, he was not really assigned a hard tag on Scarlett but whoever was there was to keep a close eye.

Scarlett had no effect in the second half with no Welsh either.

Lets not get carried away with an ok first half. Safe's us a hard decision next week on the larger MCG.

Win/win.

here here, one half of decent footy doesnt change the fact his body is cooked, cannot go the distance.

We looked faster when colyer, davey and jetta were skirting around. But we need some bigger bodies, looked like kids playing men.

Yeah I agree with Kelvin.

Scarlett had no effect on the game when Welsh went off and even though Welsh kicked the two goals his kicking inside forward 50 was pretty bad and he dropped that sitter of a mark.

To be fair to him, he did play a lot better than in previous weeks and he does position himself a lot better than our other forwards. Still think if that was Winderlich out there instead of Welsh we'd be a lot better side.

Was a great half by Welsh but how exactly does this vindicate the coaching panel? People were criticising Welsh (myself included) for coming back unfit and the fact is he was a massive liability for two weeks. Had he spent two weeks at Bendigo and then come in I doubt anyone would have a problem with one of our 150 game players who gives us his all every time. A fit in form Welsh adds to the team.

Well done to him. Interesting to see how many come on here and give credit where it's due.

Yeah exactly. People were so quick to sink the boots into a guy that had played 1 game of football in a year.

This might be what you've been saying, I'm not sure, but most people on our board have spent the last 3 weeks absolutely slamming Welsh.

All I've heard is how terrible a footballer he is and he he isn't an AFL standard footballer. Should never ever represent the EFC again etc.

The way such a great servent or our clib has beenn slammed by our so called supporters has been pretty disgusting.
