For all those supporters out there, who think he's shit. Hope you watched today!
While not dominating, he had a very solid game and proved he is our #1 ruckman by far!
10 Disposals, 5 Marks, 16 Hit outs, 4 tackles and 2 goals 1.
Thought that he competed very well today and after Jack I think he was the second best looking forward!
He should have probably kicked 4 goals if he hang onto that mark in the goal square and slotted that other goal..
Simmonds should now announce his retirement, as he will not be able to get back in this side.

Never seen much of him at Coburg , but going by the VFL reports against what I've seen with Richmond, seems to step up at the higher level...

He does. I've seen him a few times at Coburg and he definitely plays better in yellow and black. That said, 16 hitouts ain't a number one ruckman's return, especially considering he was up against the midget Skipper a fair bit. Took one strong mark, just held onto another and dropped an absolute sitter that could have won us the game. He's not the messiah but in our position we'll take it if he offers that up every week.

i reckon Hardwick, Lade and Co will concede they underrated Gus. Hats off to Simmo for trying but he just isn't either the present or the future

I'd suggest his performance yesterday was as a result of getting a good kick up the backside, and being given a taste of how life in football will be if he doesn't put his head down and have a red hot go.

Kudos to DH for making Gus work for his place in the team.

The question for me is... was yesterday, despite being just a good game by Gus, the best he has to offer? Or will he continue to improve and really start to impact games consistently over the next 12-18 months?

HIT the nail on the head Santa ... his game was decent - and his best work was done down forward, not actually in the ruck.
But reality check - reading some of the posts on here you'd think Graham had play a Cox-like or Sandilands-like game!!!!

Maybe if you stopped comparing him to the best ruckman in the comp you wouldn't have a problem . He played about 1/3 of the game in the ruck and got 16 hitouts. Pretty much did that most of last year

As many have pointed out, his true test will come next week against Ryder and Hille.
He was up against the only team in the AFL whose ruck stocks are worse than ours. Ours are poor, there's are plain deplorable!!!
You keep saying things liken this player is better than one from Carlton or wherever and our list is the best in 20 years, zero wins from eight games suggests we are ordinary.
I urge you to watch Sunday's game again ... it was two very poor teams fighting it out!! Don't be fooled by us finishing close, we wouldn't have come close to most sides on that effort!

1 - What is the average age of the players you listed above? Take out Natanui and Kreuzer who are both top 2 selections and clear freaks. Gus has been a project player who was taken very late in the draft and we have persevered with him.

2- He is BY FAR Richmond's best ruckman at this stage!

I'm not expecting him to be our #1 ruckman, however, I think he will be a standout #2 if Vickery develops to be our first choice ruck in 3-4 years. Not many teams have two great ruckman (exclude WCE)

its like pulling teeth. the logic seems to be aw hell he went better than simmonds so he must be okay. they totally ignore that both are below standard and always will be from here on in. one is below standard because his body wont allow him to play at a decent level and the game has passed him by. the other well hes never been up to it and is so ordinary.

the club is in dire need of a senior or mature ruckman those who think graham is the way forward are totally deluded and are very accepting of abject mediocrity.

Sorry for the intrusion boys and girls, but have been wondering all year until Sunday where Graham had been...last year i saw him play quite a bit and saw him play a few times live and i was impressed with him, thought he would form a very good partnership with Ty Vickery. Glad to see him back, but where has he been?

hmm blake yep widely regarded by many as a dud. yet hes easily a higher standard of dud than both graham and simmonds. he had a lazy 20 possesions on the weekend and won more than his fair share of ruck knocks.

One, if in doubt read the BF board for another angle and secondly there is an old saying if it aint working, change it...simmo was broken down from R1 with the point being hammered home for the next month to not even look at changing the mix was a MASSIVE oversight and has probably accounted for 4-6goals a week against.

Siimo out of the side was always going to improve us, anything the incoming ruck did was a BONUS

I feel same way about Bling I'm not too concerned about it costing us each week thus far to be honest what's really critical is that over the course of the season we learn who can/can't take us forward. It's so easy to be experts in hindsight, but I can only assume that Vickery and Simmo were showing more than Graham on the training track.
