James McCarthy (Old Collegians)
Would Fit in nicely at Linton Street. Flashy, goal kicking forward who is very small but super quick on the lead. Could be one of those blokes who can just ‘turn it on.‘ Quickest bloke I‘ve seen on a footy field. His pace off the mark is exceptional, the number of times he leaves his opponent five yards behind on a lead is incredible. Can also take a huge hanger.

Was very impressive for Old Collegians missed 2 years with chronic fatigue but is fully fit and back on track. He runs the 100m in a lightning 10.7 has a strong vertical leap and runs around 15 on the beep test.

Obviously haven't seen Aaron Davey then....or hundreds of other AFL players for that matter. Won't get drafted.

i dont think he is the fastest on a football kid i know for a fact this kid down at geelong nicknamed the whippet has run a 10.6 100 and plays a great game of footy on the wing

Why aren't these 10.6 10.7 runners doing athletics then as sprinters. That's pretty darn quick for a 17-18 year old. Doubt it's electronic timing though.

James Walker won the AFL sprint with 11.2, think about it.

Because they are just not 10.6 10.7 runners. James Walker was a very good junior sprinter with a pb of around 10.9h but the timing for the AFL sprint was dodgy with James' real time more the 11.6 range.

aggotwang, don't know where you get your info from but there is no way the whippet has run those times. I have a lot to do with athletics down Geelong way and believe me I'd know if there was a kid who could run that fast.

Seems there is always plenty of exaggeration when it comes to footballers running fast times but it just ain't true. It's merely a ruse to get supporters excited.

well your facts must not be that good. last yr alone there were two 17 year olds alone in geelong that ran 10.6 and 10.7 in which one of those is the whippit. im not sayi hes much of a footballer but he can run. he got 7th in the 100m u/20 final at nationals in brisbane lst yr

The results of the Under 20 finals for the 2003 and 2002 Nationals are pasted below. No Geelong boy in either of those. Is the whippet Nathan Dux who came 5th in his heat in a time of 11.27? Time keeping isn't very accurate at Landy Field so don't believe any of those quick times. Fastest runners down that way over the last couple of years have been Bryce Barnwell, Sean Avery and Michael Orchard.

Nationals 2003
Men 100 metre Under 20 Final:
(w: -1.9) 1. Groth, Jacob, NSWIS, 10.82; 2. Zeed, Mohamad, VIC, 10.96; 3. Wright, Stirling, NSW, 10.98; 4. Grooby, Clint, NZL, 11.03; 5. Finegan, Gary, QLD, 11.07; 6. Williamson, Tom, VIC, 11.08; Davies, Matt, QLD, 11.10
