In itself it was a routine and expected win in a relatively minor tournament but Federer's win in Basel sees him assured of year end No.1 status for the 4th successive year. This sees him join Connors, McEnroe, Lendl and Sampras as a 4 time end of year No.1.

49 slams and two dozen years at No.1 between those five. When we use the word "great" that is the standard against which "great" is judged.

Amazing stats. Federer is a great and will go down in history as one of the greatest players of all time. The question is, what year will he lose his number one ranking, if ever.

yet only 200 point behind federer in the champions race :) the gap is closing.

This is a thread about GREAT players who have dominated eras. What are we doing talking about a bloke who has never spent a minute at number 1?

Fed is in relative decline now and his concentrtion levels in "run of the mill" games is fading. However 12 slams and counting as well as 4 years on top and counting affords him respect no other current player can expect.

Sorry it was off the top of my head.

What a complete f**king joke of a Top 20. People complain about players today.
