John Ralph has got to be kidding.

"... But despite another shaky performance from St Kilda full-back Zac Dawson, veteran defender Max Hudghton seems destined to miss out on the club's Grand Final... ".

I have been a huge fan of your Maxie over the years but I thought the kid was in your best last night. His Eff% is fantastic, tackled well, ...

Come on Sainters - defend your defender

Re: Another shaky performance from Dawson

Zac was great last night

Raph Clarke looked all at sea again for 3 quarters then did well in the last

Eddy out for Max?

Re: Another shaky performance from Dawson

I have to say that Raph (not Ralph) has been a revelation to me and although Eddy only had 4 possies I like his hardness at the ball. Gram was the shaky one in my book

Re: Another shaky performance from Dawson

His first quarter had me cracking the shits, but he stood up and made some very good defense afterwards. Don't have any idea why he would be bagged out some more.

Re: Another shaky performance from Dawson

last qtr was solid as a rock....when the game was on the line the whole backline stood up.

The media need to have alook at the score and inside 50's.

From memory the Dogs had 30 inside 50's upto half time but only 4 goals then kicked only 3 more in 2 qtrs.

Its about time some of these stupid media hacks (plus AA selectors) started to acknowledge just how good ALL our backline players are.

We kept the No 1 scoring side this year (99% sure) to 7 goals and just game total of 53 points in a prelim final......suckonit Media hacks and AA selectors.

Re: Another shaky performance from Dawson

Tonight destroys the myth that St Kilda's backline only concedes so few points because the ball never goes up there.

Re: Another shaky performance from Dawson

Zac was fantastic, except in 2 moments.

First quarter he went to swipe the ball off the ground and missed it

Last quarter, went to tap it over his head to Gilbert, instead of taking possession. Missed it, nearly cost a goal and the game. Gilbert let him know, he will learn.

Great marks, great game.

He will play

Re: Another shaky performance from Dawson

I dont think its tall poppy syndrome.

But he's gone from massive lows to massive highs, and now he's been at a high for so long they wanna drag him down.

But Zac and Raph, ESPECIALLY RAPH proved a lot of people wrong last night. How many contested marks between em?

No chance he'll be dropped. None.

Jon Ralph had a good idea writing an article about Riewoldt's colossal effort last night, but then ruined it with a dumb comment about Zac Dawson showing - again - that you obviously don't need to understand football to write for the Herald Sun.

Zac Dawson was very good last night (apart from his arrogant backwards slap of the ball in the last quarter) and - as much as I love Hudghton - more than justified his selection with solid defensive work, team lifting extra efforts (e.g. running down Johnson) and some good opening kicks across the ground.

Now that Raph Clarke has been mentioned, I will say that Raph Clarke who was phantasic last night and again (remember September 2008 ?) showed that he will stand tall under pressure. He did a lot of work with the ball (I always thought that his overhead game was a bit of a weakness, yet he took more contested marks than any other player - bar Riewoldt of course) and ticked the trademark with his work without the ball, providing options and opening the ground with his running.

Objectively, Raph and Zac made mistakes.

Objectively they were also very good.

Like to see Raph played half forward and wing and told to create with handball.

Love Horse, but not sure whether we picked right team last night.

Yeah apart from that ill-advised slap back that almost let Gia in for a goal he was awesome. He had that 15 minute run in the third quarter where everything was coming up Milhouse for him. I have never seen him dominate a period of a game like that before. Sure some of it was bad execution by the Dogs but you have to be in the right position to capatilise on mistakes.

Eddy is the one that should go out for Hudgy. We need the extra experience back there in what is the biggest game for the last 12 years for us.

Nathan Buckley in his special comments stated that Dawson was brilliant in defense during the third term. I would believe his comments over Ralph.
