Not more then a month ago in the paper my older brother saw a picture of Pebbles and said to me, "He looks like a monster, watch what hes going to do next year!!"

A year off well spent in the gym, he was ALWAYS a big boy, now hes even bigger, what is your thoughts on this forgotten superstar from Collingwood..

Dunno about superstar!

Handy lump forward. Guys of his size are rare and tend to develop later on in their career.

Achillies snaps are ******** injuries though. I doubt he will ever lead especially well again. Hope he can become an A. Lynch like type goal square specialist.

The thing that scares me is ....

he has never had a big aerobic capacity... and with a year off without much running hes going to be a lot worse..

Could go either way. If he can get over his achillies the year off should see his ankles and thumb better for the rest. I’ve wanted him played at FF for years and hopefully that will happen now. He could kick 80 to 100 goals with decent supply. Don’t ask me how we get him decent supply though.

Another reason we need to pick up the likes of a kennedy at #5... to fill CHF. Have Taz and C3 on the flanks and kennedy at CHF.

Play bucks at CHF as a middle sized marking forward, Taz and Trav on either flank as the leading / roaming forwards. Rocca to stay in the square as a Strong Full Forward to bomb it to, Rusling the leading Forward out of the square with Davis or Didak as the Roving Pocket

ok so the usual structure of a forward line is now to have the big guys on flanks and smaller guys at CHF i.e buckley?? thats random as. C3 is a CHF and will develop into a good one,

 i am REALLY disappointed in the attitude of some Collingwood fans, not even Anthony Rocca is a superstar of Collingwood? Can you all please tell me WHO IS??? Seriously ********s me to hear this ********.. How are we EVER going to win a premiership in even 5 years if all 18 players out there are duds?? Anthony Rocca, with the right comeback from injuries and fitness, is the scariest player in the AFL, i still remember the days he'd clean up a player a game. Have some positive thoughts and you will rest easier at night guys!
I also remember him having the biggest kicks in the AFL, name someone else in the AFL at the moment that can match his big bombs from 65metres out straight through the middle at goal post height.. also, what use is that if hes in the goalsquare?

YOYO!!!! ;) I agree!!!!! Ill tell you the problem with Collingwood supporters, i know because i have been going to the football for 16 years week in week out! Collingwood people have a very high expectation on the players, there is a perception out there that if your not a superstar, GET &^*^ED!!! Your all wrong, there is no dought Rocca needs a big pre season under his belt. This is how i see the fwd line from 2006 onwards.

Seaun Rusling: FF
Alan Didak: left FP
Nathan Buckley: right FP

Anothy Rocca: CHF
Chris Tarrant: Half fwd flank
Travis Cloke: Half fwd flank

Reasons: Seaun rusling will run the feet off anyone manning up on his, lighting quick out of the goal square, bucks and didak in the pockets picking up the crumbs and supporting one another. Rocca at key position bombing the ball in the squre or going for glory, cloke and tazza on the flanks using their overhead marking ability and agility...

Dont all forget people, Tarrant never played as fwd in his junior days, only started when he came to Collingwood!!!!!

GO PIES!!!!!!! :D

Perfectly said.. there is the best forward line in the AFL. Another thing, does anyone remember the huge article on Chris Tarrant earlier in the year when they discussed his future and he revealed his knee injury? In that same article, Tarrant himself said, he spoke with MM last pre-season about playing in the midfield, if anyone can give a logical argument against me i will listen to it. He has the leg speed, he has the booming kicks and the brains to land them right in the hands of leading forwards considering he was one and understands the perfect places to kick them.. Believe it or not, but Tarrant will be playing as a midfielder at times this year, just like J Brown for Brisbane but a smaller body.

Disagree mate
not interested in getting into an argument regarding collingwood players with you but sav rocca clearly has outperformed anthony over their careers, and is actually usually fit for most of the season unlike ant of late! sav has kicked 700+ goals or something

disagree with ur forward line to

didak, please move him into the middle, PLEASE we need class, didz oozes it
rocca, play closer to goal, with short bursts in the ruck if need be, he is actually our best ruckmen
rusling, reckon the wing is made for ruzza, peter matera with height!!
caracella, certainty for a forward pocket
t.cloke, CHF looks perfectly suited to it
tazza, HFF, just like in 03 when he was AA

so

C: lonie, Dids, Ruzza
HFF: taz, t.cloke, egan
FF:bucks, rocca, carrots

this is how id line up our forwards next year

While I have said I want Tarrant played on a wing for a long time the counter arguments to Tarrant as any kind of midfielder is his ability below the knees, his poor kicking and in spite of what you claim his brain. I figure it has to be worth trying though and we have forwards to slot into his position.

Ill disagree again. Anthony Rocca, like Taz, has never been a full forward like big Sav, who did Sav have to compete with to kick his 500 goals at Collingwood? R Ahmat? B Fuller? L Walker? S Peterson? Pebbles is in a modern structured forward line with no real full forward, him and Taz share the workload of full forward. No disrespect but you do not understand football if you want to waste Anthony Rocca's last 2 years (probably peak) fit years as a full forward, that should be saved for when he is into his 30s (eg. Lynch), if he has what it takes to have a go at ruck then he must be right for CHF or in the 30metre mark taking marks on the lead and kicking them straight through from 55 60 out. Only he can do that for another 2-3 years, his brother is finished after this year and he is too old to even play any kind of role Anthony can. I agree, statistics show Sav is of more use, but Sav never got us into any Grannies, Pebbles has got us into 2.. both had Buckley so no excuses. As for your forward line, looking good, but Pebbles ain't a FF just yet.. have some faith ;)

yeah exactly, thats what i mean, he is worth the risk to have a go at the midfield because nowadays he is easily covered in our forward line, for all we know, he can be the fast midfielder we have been looking for!!

no disrespect but then have a go , quite funny actually!

regarding ruck comment, he is our only ruck option with any real size

playing ant at FF is not wasting him, his best asset is his size, strength & marking ability, cant really see him going on searching leads up the wings like, pavlich, reiwoldt, tredrea, hall etc. so play him closer to goal and let tazza, t.cloke & bucks take the marks on the flanks & kick it long to ant, i dont see this as wasting ant, more see it as an added bonus playing to his strengths

sav, played up forward with names such as daicos, brereton, gav brown, and ant rocca himself for bout 4 years.

but dont get me wrong after bucks, ant is clearly our next most important player, he just hasn't delivered in the same way which sav has done to this stage

quote from racer from collingwood web page

“The boys are really looking forward to next year – I know I certainly am, and hopefully by Round One we’ll be all fit and ready. There will be a big bloke by the name of Anthony Rocca in the goal square – and that’s going to be fantastic!”

well i guess if the players want ant in the goal square maybe i, (and many others), may actually be on the right path!!!

no disrespect intended regarding ur football knowledge of-course!!

Sav Rocca has had the better career but IMO never fulfilled his potential and was never able to string a few dominating games together. Anthony Rocca is way more talented than Sav and in 2002/2003 he dominated games in a great team which is more than I can say for Sav who went backwards fast and then had a few overrated but handy years at Kangas.
