He'll play............He'll have a light week on the track and enough strapping on he's shoulder Saturday night to make a "mummy" proud......They gotta play him deep though he'll be to strong 1 on 1 with Scarlett or Harley......:thumbsu:

Too strong for Scalett? Like the G-Train...

I doubt there is anyone in the league that can out muscle Scarlo in a 1 on 1. The guy is surprisingly strong. Richo cound'nt do it, G-Train could'nt, Rocca could'nt in 2004 when they last played on each other. I don't think there are any stronger men in the AFL than the three mentioned above.

I think you guys may have the edge on us and might pip us in a tight contest, however with Tom Harley back, it gives us so many options. I think it's going to be a wonderful contest.

I'm hopeful that your road trip will have taken it out of the players.

Good luck guys.

Big Ants will play & throw in Travis Cloke also. Geelong wont know what hit them this Sat night.

Scarlett is historically Tarrant's bitch. And doesn't Tarrant need a bitch right now?

Having said that Scarlett has improved immeasurably over the last few years.

It is no intention to be a smart arse but by taking a couple of sensational marks over a player that is for ever backing into packs does not constitute being someones bitch. I dont think they have ever actually lined up on each other.

Did Rocca and Tarrant play on saturday night in WA ????????

Don't recall seeing them cause too much damage. Nonetheless, unlike Collingwood supporters I'm prepared to conceed that you go infavourite but that counts for very little once the ball is bounced.

Stats point convincingly to Geelong having one of the best backlines in the business ..... proved again when we shut down the saints Friday night. Without stats I'd suggest most opposition teams rate Scarlett / Milburn / Harley as equal to or better than anyone else.

Just think common sense would suggest this will be a great battle - enough of the blind faith so often exhibited by one eyed Collingwood supporters ..... it's laughable.

Let's hope he plays. He needs to be there to take Scarlett. They have a great defence. We have a great attack. Rocca missing when he simply can play is something we need as it works in our favour somewhat. His loss to their defence is a big loss to us.

Buckley needs to play forward, and god help us if Jason Cloke stays in and plays forward.

I dont care what anyone says, Tarrant needs to lift this week for us to have a good win. He need to kick 3-4 to put pressure on their defence otherwise there is too much pressure on rocca

They usually play on each other and Tarrant has had the upper hand.

I think you'll find Harley takes Tarrant. Scarlo goes to Rocca.

I can't recall if Scarlo played on Tarrant last year or not but i have a feeling he did'nt.

Even if he did, he has by no means beat him. Sure he has taken a few Marks on his back but we all know Taz cannot kick and does not punish teams on the scoreboard the way he should, much like Kent 'Kant Kicksley' Kingley.

Cast your mind back further than last year. Tarrant has played and beaten Scarlett twice. Sure Scarlett wasn't exactly thrashed and he may not have kicked bags of goals but Tarrant was BOG or near BOG and was highly influential. Last time Scarlett played on Rocca and Harley on Tarrant and that worked out well, I think, although i think Tarrant had an ok game. Tarrant hurts you with his goal assists usually from a perfect pass inside 50.

Who? How many Grand Final's have that lot played in? Isn't that basically the same bunch that even Hawthorn kicked a tonne of goals on at Geelong's home ground this season?

Very observant of you. Rocca and Tarrant only kicked three goals between them, Didak was quiet, T.Cloke's withdrawal off-balanced the side, and Buckley didn't play, yet we lost to West Coast at Subiaco by only 14 points with obviously plenty of improvement still possible.

I'd like to see Scarlett versus Mal Michael ;)

Although who would be the full forward?

Its kinda like when two guys get pretend married, who is the 'bride' and who is the 'groom'?

You, like Geelong should very well know. It's not how many you play in. It's how many you win.

Most of your list have played in 2 and won SWA.

If you would like to make stupid comparasins... how many finals games has your team played in the last year?

For the record. Scarlett (easily our best defender and player) was not playing in the Hawthorn game, nor was Tom Harley (second best defender)but surprise surprise, they are both playing this week.

I am not having a go at your team in any way or form but that was a crazy reply. I think it will be a great tough contest and i believe you guys may have the advantage but i like being the underdogs. Good luck and hope to see you there!:thumbsu:

I see, so the answer is zero Grand Final's then; you should have just said so! ;) If it was such a 'crazy' response by the way, then why did you even bother replying to me then?

I don't believe it to be crazy because talented, gutsy sides are successful under the pressure of September, and Geelong has not shown that. Although it is all about winning Grand Finals, nobody can criticise Collingwood's 9 point Grand Final loss a few years ago when the opposition were the hottest favourites to win this side of the WW II.

Maybe a couple of Geelong defenders were missing in Round 3 when thrashed on their home ground by a team that finished 3rd last and are nowhere near the peak of their ability yet, but I said 'basically' the same backline if you choose to read my post again. Would those couple of players turned that loss into a win? I wouldn't think so. Is it basically the same backline that were beaten by one man (Nick Davis) under the pressure of a Preliminary Final last season?

Geelong are a very good side though, and are a big chance to win on the weekend of course, but my point is simply that Geelong has not proven anything over a period of time in recent seasons. They have shown a lot sometimes, and they have only shown a little at other times, and although the backline is very good, to make out that is some impenetrable defence that Collingwood cannot fine a way around it is not accurate in my view.

Geelong's win against St.Kilda was good, but not great. Undermanned St.Kilda is overrated and badly coached. They fall off a lot after their top 7 or 8 players, and they are unable to play their top 7 or 8 players currently. That said, it was a gutsy win, and a gutsy win can lead to more wins as shown this season with Melbourne when they scrapped for a couple of wins that has created more cofidence.

Out of curiosity though, why do you like being underdogs? Don't you have faith in your team when they are favourites? Don't you think they have the capacity of being able to handle the pressure of being favourites? Do you think that they are only capable of playing good footy when they are the underdogs? Very good sides play well at all times, and I don't care if Collingwood are favourites or underdogs on Sat'day night.

So Collingwood's team this year is "basically" the same side that led this great club to a priority draft pick last season ???

p.s. Geelong have never had a priority draft selection.

A strong list but even last year with our team missing half its forward line we still manage to walk over geelong. This Sat nite will show just how good your back line really is.

Scarlett is better suited to the bigger less mobile guys, thats why he will get Rocca. The Tarrant match up is a concern, but I think Harley will get first crack, while Egan will pick up T Cloke. Didak is the concern for me.

What are you talking about? Scarlett usually plays on Tarrant, and Tarrant has had by far the better of him.

The reason i prefer to be underdogs is simple. The media and the football world are expecting Collingwood to walk all over Geelong. If we win, it's an upset, if we lose, it's unexpected. It's a win-win situation for the club.

I really could not be bother replying to the rest of your thread. It's pointless that you are attempting to justify how good your team is, yet they, like Geelong have not achieved the ultimate success. Who really remembers or cares who loses?. The point is they lost 2 grand finals, like Geelong losing 4 in a 6 year period. 1 point or 200 points, both teams still lost!

That being said, niether team has achieved anything since 1990 but if you want to clutch at straws, Geelong has certainly achieved far more than Collingwood in the past 2 seasons.
