- CARLTON will unveil its star ruck recruit Robbie Warnock in the VFL on Saturday after a season beset by injury.
But Warnock had pre-season shoulder and ankle surgery and was then placed on the long-term injury list because of foot-stress fractures.
Finally, after a month of training, Warnock will play for the Northern Bullants against the Bendigo Bombers at Windy Hill on Saturday.
The Blues remain optimistic a bulked-up Warnock could be a finals presence for them, allowing Matthew Kreuzer to spend more time forward.
"We expect him to play this week as long as he gets through training," Carlton football manager Steven Icke said yesterday.
"We are confident he is ready to play, and we want to get him up and ready if we make the finals."
Nick Stevens looks likely to spend another week with the Bullants.
Carlton's match committee will meet today but the midfielder has not yet shown enough form to force his way back into the senior side.
Stevens, under fire for his poor condition, collected 12 disposals and was heavily tagged against North Ballarat on Sunday.
He is unlikely to have done enough to force the hand of coach Brett Ratten.
"They were tough conditions and a player of his quality doesn't get to run around on his own, so he is still working to get back into his top form," Icke said.
Forward Setanta O'hAilpin (soreness) and defender Michael Jamison (groin) will be up for selection for Friday night's blockbuster against Collingwood at the MCG.
Carlton was thrilled with Andrew Walker's VFL return after three shoulder reconstructions, but he will need another week with the Bullants.
He played all over the ground to finish with 22 possessions against the Roosters
"He got through fine, and took a couple of big hits on his shoulder and had no problems, which was great for his confidence," Icke said.
Walker improved as the game progressed.
But with the Bullants playing on Sunday and the Blues on Friday, Walker is likely to return to the senior side against North Melbourne the following week.
