Well you're about to. Not only the players but their wives, girlfriends, mums, dads, sibblings, friends etc etc.

As announced on 3AW this afternoon during the 'Footy Hour', Thursday nights on 9 at 10.30pm (yep during The Footy Show), a segment will take place where footballers will entering themselves and/or nominating another person to sing to the audience.

Professional judges will be rating the contestants and wait for it.............

The winner at the end of the season looks set to win themselves a record contract. I kid you NOT! This was all on the radio this afternoon, im shocked no one else has brought it up.

So that leads me to my next question? Who's the front runner to win?

Michael Long was considered a good singer, and even sang a couple of numbers on 'The Footy Show' - I vaguely recall one satirising all the problems with the then new Docklands stadium in 2000.

There was an album released in the early 1980s containing several famous songs covered by VFL stars of the day - apparently it's pretty horrendous.

Luke McPharlin (with his band) has actually released 2 CDs on the independent music scene here in WA, he sings and plays guitar. I reckon he takes his music a bit more seriously than this though... ;)

Heard Brett Johnson and Andrew Walker do some Elvis tunes. Johnno with a guitar. Paul Abbott do Eddie Rabbitt songs in the 80's. Dermott do "the Lady is a tramp" many years ago.

Is there any chance The Footy Show might want to put a bit more effort into discussing football on their show, rather than mucking around with silly talent shows or soap parodies?

I know the show is meant to be a bit of 'light entertainment' but really....

As for this singing competition idea - well it smells like something they would have done on 'Live and Kicking' when that was on.

And that can't be good for anyone.

I remember Stephen Kernahan singing 'stand by your man' after the 1987 grand final,

umm,,,, Spose, thats not realy worth remembering,,, It was bloody shocking........... :o

Jacko talked Ïm an individual" - Capper was crap. There was an album released years ago called FOOTY FAVOURITES - few of the guys from the 70s recorded songs - good for a laugh but these days is hard to find. Agree with Kernahan singing Stand by your man.
