Cheers, I didn't even think of that. On my own I have the ability to make a checklist and tick things off as I go. That way once something is ticked off I know not to touch it ever again. The worst that can happen is my cat walking across my keyboard with visual studio open and me saving it (something like that may have happened last night ).

Good news that everything is looking up anyway. With the Australian Open actually over hopefully the key window of interest for the game isn't too far closed.

There would not be enough sales in Australia to cover the dev costs regardless of the games' reception - it's the international sales as we head into Paris and London, followed by New York that will make or break the game financially.

I'll accept that AO Tennis should have been better on day one - undoubtedly our fault.

The releases prior to AO Tennis have been RLL4 and Ashes, I don't consider that we got it wrong with those.

PS: You might think the article fair but I don't think it reasonable to compare video game reviews in any context with a child-abusing parent, his previous article compared our game RLL4 to rugby players beating up their spouses, he's got some serious issues that have nothing to do with video games.
I don’t see Ashes as a bad game at all but I didn’t understand why it was released when Bradman 17 was only 12 months old and still suffering from issues

I posted a video from my channel earlier in this thread about AO Tennis and Big Ant as a whole and my thoughts were that games like Ashes and Ao Tennis seemed like they were rushed to reach a release date to tie in with the Ashes series or Aus open (which is the kind of thing that I’ve always respected Big Ant for not doing)

Just to clarify, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed a lot of what you’ve done (AFL, rugby league, cricket, lacrosse) so it’s been disappointing to see AO Tennis fall so flat

(As for that reviewer, I don’t like the way he said the things he said but his criticism of the game was fair and as you said he clearly has issues)

I saw your video and understand from the outside why you might draw the conclusions you did, but I disagree 100% with the sentiment of it and the conclusions that you came too.

DBC17 is not owned nor published by Big Ant, we have no control or rights regarding the product. Ashes Cricket is licensed by CA to Big Ant, it is made and published by Big Ant, it is under our control, there will be further patches and will have ongoing support.

Admittedly, AO Tennis was planned to be better than it was at release, we stumbled and are making up for that in patches, there have been ten patches so far and there will be a major patch in the next two days. We are working 24x7 on it and won't stop until it is the best tennis game ever made.

PS: There is no "cash grab" for Cricket Games or Tennis Games in Australia no matter what you might think, it just doesn't make sense, if you based the dev on sales here in Australia then you would lose millions of dollars.

First off it’s a breath of fresh air to have someone in the video games industry admit their mistakes and Big Ants communication with fans has always been first class

Ashes Cricket just seemed like an odd choice from you guys as I remember in the past you emphasised how annual releases didn’t make a tonne of sense unless you’re an EA or 2K (maybe your stance on this has changed over time or perhaps this was only in regards to AFL titles)

I apologise if what I’ve said either here on bigfooty or in my video has offended you but a few rough periods (DBC17s rough start and Ao Tennis) definitely gave me those impressions
(It’s good to hear that those thoughts aren’t the case)

10 patches in 3 weeks of it being released is ******* deplorable, no matter what way you put it.

So if you don't patch you're not providing support and have abandoned the game, if you do you're ******* deplorable. Cool.

The patches are not just fixes, we are adding more than we ever planned to and actually adding things that the community has asked for, and we are patching as we go rather than making people wait.

All cool, as said, I can understand from the outside how it looks, I was always going to send you a message at some point but your post here prompted me to explain publicly :)

I think you missed the point. A game that needs 10 patches in three weeks is alarming.

I got it, we understand people might get "patch fatigue" and that it might make the game look worse than it is to those that don't have it, but regardless of that we have decided to keep doing small patches rather than bundle them up and have people wait, it's a conscious decision.

Cheers for watching the vid and getting in touch about the concerns I expressed, as I said before your communication with fans has always been first class

Here’s hoping it’s not too long before I’m making an AO Tennis redemption video (haven’t loved a Tennis game since the ps2 days and I hope AO can soon change that)

Your CEO clearly doesn't like admitting fault, was throwing shade at other reviewers who thought the game was incomplete... Certainly lost a lot of respect from an outsiders perspective.

I'll let him know....

If it is in fact you you've certainly changed your tone.... You were outright dismissive of the negative reviews yet here you are weeks later admitting the game was no good.... Not exactly a good look.

Given your previous blatantly biased posts, I figure you're just trolling me, but just in case you're after a serious conversation, if you're referring to the one reviewer I have responded to that said "patches are no excuse" but had his game of the year as the most patched game of the last few years, Battlegrounds, then you well know that I did not say anything about the "review", I clearly disagreed with his contention that the staff at Big Ant were lazy - and I'd defend that accusation any place, any time.

You'd also know that I was a very small voice amongst the backlash of the dev community that denounced his view and subsequently he "patched" the review that said patches were no excuse. Case closed.

This certainly seemed to be chiding the numerous other outlets that said the game was shoddy....

I guess I'm just reading too much into it. Good luck to you, a long road back in earning credibility and trust from the consumer. Just think it was quite a misstep in releasing a game that was clearly rushed and unfinished.

Another question that begs to be asked, how do you release a game that bad and demand $100 for it?

My biggest issue wit BigAnt games have always been the ridiculous price tag when being sold retail.
They have never made a game that is worth $100, let alone $70.

Due to the market though for a lot of their games (Aus basically) they must have a higher selling cost to retailers.

The choice is that niche sports games will be $100 or there will be no local games at retail at all. There are plenty of Aussie films that have low budgets but charge the same cinema ticket price, and I'm glad we have them, same goes for art galleries and the like, they have to be supported or they disappear.

In any case, we're lucky to break even on them, we're certainly not making them to get rich, you make games because you are passionate about it.

Have you considered doing smaller projects that don't require licensing? I genuinely would love there to be an active dev community in Australia but you are basically pigeonholing the company as a shovelware sports dev. Do you employ creative designers?

Cant believe the sad state of things these days where we are gratefully grovelling on our knees to the developer for bringing up to a half decent standard yet another shamefully bad release.

And these developers wonder why the government hesitates to invest in them! Hardly a professional image. Then they back it up with personal vitriol to their critics.

"Yes, the people who brought us the abomination known as Rugby League Live 4 and all its predecessors are back and causing more damage to tennis than Jelena Dokic’s father".

That's from the news.com.au review of the game and to say that a video game is causing more damage to Tennis then a abusive horrible father is seriously ****** up this guy must have very serious psychological problems

Yep obviously does have very serious psychological problems, you can definitely tell from that one sentence hey. [emoji849]

Type in “ao tennis game” into google the first thing that comes up is ign 2/5 stars. Hard to come back from that. Good luck to them.

Less than 3 months to Tennis world tour thank christ
