Ten has given up the rights to the Hopman Cup presumably because they didn't want to pay for it when it was going to be shunted to ONE for the BBL. Wonder who will actually pick it up, no one looks likely in my opinion. Surely they are going to have to find something because a lot of countries do get this coverage, so a bit of money involved.

I think there is a good chance that SBS pick it up on the cheap if no-one else goes for it.

Channel 7 could add it to there summer of tennis, but they already are going to be covering Brisbane so it will be hard to get it.

Channel 9 have the cricket, so will not want it, and I dont think ABC will chase it for big bucks either.

Given that they barely have any tennis Foxtel will almost certainly pick up the late games at least, possibly in a split with SBS again.

Supposedly 7mate is going to show it. Was actually hoping fox sports was going to show it so i didn't have to get the rabbit ears out

Fox Sports will be again showing Australian Open games after not showing it last year!
Hopefully they have a viewers choice option like they did a few years ago. That was awesome!!

Fox Sports had it last year (and I think they even had it the previous year). Problem is that they didn't show viewers choice last year and I would be surprised if that changes this year sadly.

I imagine with the new rights kick in 2015, Fox Sports will have no coverage as Seven will try push their online platform as they are meant to show multiple courts online from 2015 onwards.

That multiple viewing online platform that 7 will introduce sounds promising, but the problem I have with 7 is that they broadcast sport in SD. It's 2013. Everything should be in HD. Australia is so far behind in the TV industry. In the UK they are currently testing Ultra HD to use in the near future.

the problem is HD is still very expensive to produce

what? how? i'd be shocked if there was a SD production facility at AFL or NRL game at this point. you don't need more people, nearly all the available equipment is HD.

Gearhouse have 1 large SD truck and Global have 3. pretty much the rest of Gearhouse's stuff is HD and Gobal have 9 HD trucks and 1 portable HD studio.

how is it more expensive to produce HD?

If there is Luke Darcy and no Hamish McLachlan then I would consider that a very, very minor improvement. They may as well recruit BT to fill the night slot with Henri Leconte (as entertaining as I think the both of them are).

Cue the start of the hate for Channel 7 and their tennis coverage.

Luke Darcy hosting the coverage at the Brisbane International. Spare me.

Stooping to lower levels every year and if that pickle Darcy is involved in AO Coverage then count me out.
Darcy barely has any knowledge of a game he actually played so wtf would he know about tennis ? Gee Seven have some hacks ! Might as well get Grant Denyer involved in 7 Sport !

Do we really have that little depth of competent journalists in Australia that could host/commentate sport in this country? Surely there are professionals out there who would be able to do a great job, instead we get people with little knowledge and talent in sports broadcasting like Luke Darcy and Hamish Mclaughlin.

Dislike: Luke Darcy. Why why why is he involved. Just take break while footy is off mate.

Like: Tennis viewing galore 7two and 7mate showing tournament s simultaneously is awesome!

Haha, understand your frustration.

On a different note, you didn't happen to own a greyhound called your username did you?
