I must admit I'm a bit like Carlos with Arcade Fire and Bloc Party. They seem like the sort of bands I would ussually like but I just can't get into them.

They remind me a bit of Echo and the Bunnyman,The Pixies even a bit like Smashing Pumpkins.Bands I really liked.

I don't know what it is,maybe too 'busy'.Strange.

I've given up.

Dont give up!! its too early to pull the pin....

Haha, mate, in this case I don't think it is!

Carlos, all I can say is thanks for trying- your efforts did not go without notice! Perhaps your best off now just whacking on some Muse or Chris Cornell or something and just cutting up the stuff you enjoy most- no point sitting around listening to this stuff us weirdos are in to!

For what it's worth, I think the vocals on Neon Bible just fail to reach the same Funeral excitement at times. But, overall the album is a cracker. Probably a smidge behind the debut- but then that's my second favourite album ever so I wasn't expecting Neon Bible to be as good!

I wouldn't read too much into it Carlos. Arcade Fire have a Radiohead-esque ability to completely repulse some listeners whilst attracting others with an absolute passion.

It shouldn't be about 'cool', it should be about what gives you feeling. Arcade have very simple lines that will envoke immense feeling in some, but be bland to others. If ya dun like it, ya dun like it!

And that in a nutshell is why i was so willing to give this band a go dude.

I listen to a sh*tload of music, but will admit that a fair portion of it is usually to do with the dexterity of the musicianship rather than the emotional attachment that makes those extra special albums mean so much.

And i'll be the first to admit that sometimes i miss the point of certain stuff because i'm too busy picking holes in the playing/production etc rather than just getting swept up in what everyone else finds incredibly uplifting or exciting music.

Which is why i was so willing to give this band a go. Being honest, they cant play their instruments particularly well and i've always had a hard time with that real loose and almost unfocused kind of production quality. But i know it doesnt always have to be about that and if the sense of adventure or spirit of the songs is strong enough, it'll eventually (hopefully) shine through that initially shoddy first impression for me.

And again, it comes back to reading/hearing so many people whose opinions i respect in absolute raptures over it that i kinda wanna get on board too!

I always feel like the nerdy loner kid watching the cool kids be cool when it comes to this band. I so want to get into them too, but i just fall short every time.

I bought Funeral mainly on the recommendation of few cats on here whose posts i enjoy reading and gave it a few attempts, but just didnt get it.

And then reading everyone get so excited about this one, in particular the no Cars Go tune, i started getting sucked in again.

So i downloaded the tune (i'm slowly but surely getting dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century!!) and have given it 2 spins so far.

And so far, I'm still the nerdy loner kid. :(

To take a leaf out of your 'standardised Muse responses' book - you just don't understand good music.

You aren't allowed to quote Pitchfork reviews otherwise the village idiot (who's made a cameo in this thread already) will attempt to belittle you.

FWIW, I agree with that review, especially ending the album on No Cars Go.

Haha I reckon I can guess who you're talking about.

But anyway Pitchfork is always good to read imo but you cant take em too seriously even though many reviews hit the nail. Or maybe I should and become an elitist indie ****. :)

Okay could someone please explain to me what is so amazing about 'No Cars Go'? Stuff off Funeral like 'Rebellion (Lies)' are better songs...

It is growing in this camp as well. Just wish they'd taken that middle 8 bit with that cool bass riff over the top of the drum roll a bit further. Thats a sweet little part which could have formed a killer hook. Great outro to the tune though.

Dunno if its the best tune i've heard this year, but its starting to make a bit more sense. Might even give the album a razzle. Ya never know, Funeral might finally make more sense as well :p

It's just been officially overhyped by this thread! :D

It's a good song though. An emotional release. And should have been the last track!

Rabid Arcade Fire fans overhyping the next record? Say it isn't so!

Only a decent song though. Tries to be more epic than it actually is.

You're right. I got a bit carried away. I do that in fits of excitement!

Clearly, the best song (and film clip) this year so far is Gym Class Hero's, Cupid's Chokehold with the Supertramp sample.

Or anything Fergie. 'Glamourous' is the ****!

;)

I downloaded "No Cars Go" on the strength of this thread and I was expecting something grand to happen on the first listen. I waited and waited until I realised haflway through - "Hang on, this song isn't that great after all". Way to disappoint me everyone!

It's a solid track, nothing spectacular though.

You certainly have your panties in a knot. I never belittled you for quoting Pitchfork, merely for trying to use it as 'proof' of a band's quality.

Step AWAY from the incense, buddy.

Bought it, had a few spins...

Lacking the same amount of sheer beauty that made Funeral such a classic...but not bad.

For instant appeal, though, it's being flogged by Josh Pyke...maybe that'll change in a month or two.

This is a great album, I can't stop playing it. However I skip Black wave/ Bad vibration every time.

I'm just glad that this is not a Funeral pt 2.:thumbsu:

Great to hear the band developing.

P.S. I think My body is a cage is a great song to end the album (why does it remind me of a negroe slave song?)

P.P.S. A weekend in the city is the biggest dud of an album i have bought in along time. I feel like asking for my money back.

A Weekend in the City is a bit of a grower - I hated it at first but there are some good tracks on there. Obviously not as good as Silent Alarm though, which was a corker.

BTW I agree with whoever said "No Cars Go" is an overrated track...is there anything better off their new album?
