The Pies still have basically the same squad they had before dropping down the ladder, and were able to add Daicos through FS. The 17th place finish was an anomaly. This year's North Melbourne side definitely wouldn't be able to replicate that next year for example.1st on the ladder was 11th last year
2nd on the ladder was 17th 2 years ago
5th, 6th and 7th were 10th, 14th and 15th last year
Both last years grand finalists look like missing the 8
Fair argument for most teams could win it (not mine this year obviously) in any year if things go right for them
Although I still largely agree. Outside of the sides trying to rebalance their lists (Eagles, North) and sides allergic to success (Carlton), just about anyone could turn things around and become competitive in the space of a couple years by injecting elite youth into the side or getting a fresh coaching panel. 2012-2014 Dogs were shambolic (finishing 15th, 15th and 14th). Replace the coach for 2015 and suddenly they're making finals and are a 15-win H&A side in 2016 and win the flag. "Windows" are much more easily opened these days
