Hey guys I would have asked this in a trade thread but you only seem to have one dedicated to walker and jacobs.

It seems Tony Armstrong has been linked to Sydney (Source:http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/fraser-could-be-headed-to-suns-20101006-167sv.html) since we don't really know anything about him would you be able to shed some light on him as a player as well as what you would expect from him in return, thanks.

Edit: My bad can't belive I missed it, saw jacobs and walker in the title and just cruised over it thinking it was the first part of the jacobs walker discussion

Armstrong is a very quick HBF with excellent foot skills.

He's played a few games this year, but unfortunately for him competes for a position that we have a lot of good players for. The recruiting of Tambling probably pushes him one more spot down the line.

IMO he'll make a good AFL player - but not at our club due to lack of opportunity. For that reason, I'd be happy to trade him for a fair trade.

Agreed. I was quite impressed with his skill level this year too. Will be a decent pick up for you guys.

Yeah, well put macca. Was drafted as a 3 year project player and has shown steady development over the 3 years he's been at our club to the point at which he played a number of AFL games in 2010. However hasn't developed as yet to a point where he is a first 22 selection, although this is not to say he wouldn't be at another club and isn't good enough to play AFL. He should develop into a very solid winger/HBF'er. However is very much limited to these positions as he is very outside in the way he plays and hasn't shown much affinity for playing up forward, is the kind of player who loves to run the lines and deliver by foot into the F50. Probably worth a late 2nd-3rd rounder.

So, if Cook and Armstrong are up for grabs, what would be fair compensation?
Neither player is in our best 22 (or 25 for that matter), but both have something to attract (Armstrong is his skill level, Cook is his athleticism).
2nd Rounder for each? Or perhaps a player swap?

Perhaps Petersen (Haw) for Armstrong?

Petersen is a decent player, but his off-field antics (ie going walkabout) would make any (every) club reluctant to give him a 3rd life. He's now burned 2 clubs, I don't see a 3rd one following suit.

I'd say they're probably worth a late 2nd or early 3rd round selection. Maybe a player-for-player trade for a player on the fringe of another team's best 22.

His disposal is very good until he is under pressure, I have seen him **** up many times with North when under the pump. Could be different at AFL level as it is a different style of game a lot of the time but I have no problem trading him away. Cook is another player I wouldn't mind losing, I don't think he will ever be that important a player with the Crows.

I dont think we should be trading Cook or Armstrong as we are in need of fast outside players and they are two of the few we have. Armstrong improved out of sight last year. His main problem had been his lack of competitiveness which certainly improved. As for Cook, he showed a bit at the start of the year and will only get better. Unfortunately, he is stuck at South which would be a tough gig for a young outside mid. He would do with a change of SANFL club. He would shine at Collingwood! They tried to snare him last year...

Nah, they got worse as the season rolled on...
They have less time and more perceived pressure on them in the AFL and this gets them coughing it up and run down brain frozen failing to dispose of it.

The gamestyle is going to get worse in this regard as teams move to imitate collingwood and saints all the more especially with adelaide players heading into management with teams around the league as well as the same suspected to happen with collingwood players.

I would keep Armstrong and trade Cook if we could get anything for him. We traded Tambling to play the Cook role, does say much for how the club rates him. Plus he cant kick!!!! Look at Collingwoods side on the weekend, who in that team cant kick? How about Geelong the year before?? We have too many players with average to poor disposal, enough is enough.

Cook deserved to get dropped when he did but went backwards at Souths, I agree. I just hope he gets a new SANFL club and one more year with in Adelaide. I reckon at Norwood for example he would be a star. Down at windy Noarlunga when you have lost 15 in a row and team morale is shot and there are no senior players at all to help, you would get lost easy. Same goes for Mckernan who did show glimpses of brilliance and it scares me what might happen with Tahlia. And BTW, I am a Souths supporter, so Im not trying to bag the club

Well pass em over to centrals for some finals experience ;) YOU DOGS!!! :P
That'll get em some confidence.
Maybe south can grab another ex crow as coach and get her done.

Collingwood strike again. Cooky has too much upside to trade out though. Give it another season and he should start to make good on that.

He also can't kick, can't handball and can't make decisions. He can get the ball every now and then when he makes the right choice, but then doesn't know what to do with it. I hope he gets some confidence by improving his disposal...should fix all his problems.

I wouldn't trade Cook or Armstrong. We'd get what, a 3rd rounder for them? I really doubt we'd pick up a kid in the draft that would turn out as good as either Cookie or Armstrong. Myke and Tony have plenty of improvement left in them anyway- they both have talent to be very good AFL players if nurtured properly. I say keep them for another year, if they don't really improve then look to move them on. Nothing to lose anyway as the draft picks we'd get for them probably wouldn't even be used (as we only have 2 or 3 spots on our list left). Cook just needs to pick up his kicking, his movement is excellent and gives us something different to our midfield mix. Armstrong is a brilliant kick- something we don't really have much on our list. Under pressure he sort of panics but I think with more experience this'll go out of his game. I see Cook as a similar player to Wellingham and Armstrong as a player like Enright.

I agree! And lets remember he is a 20 yr old playing AFL. Give him a go. In the right environment and with a bit more time Cook is going to be a good player, and he is the exact type of player our club needs. He needs 1 more pre-season and a new SANFL club.

actually, if we were able to get a 3rd rounder for either of them, we'd most likely use it, because (assuming we get Jacobs for our 2nd rounder) Adelaide will only have their 1st, 4th and 5th rounders. Freo will only offer a late pick (4th or 5th round) for Griffin.

Yes, and Judd as well...but not Jacobs!;)

You're right, Jacobs is worth more than that...

Lol so we can give him to Collingwood, he'll become a champion premiership player, and we'll always regret losing another one (K. Johnson, Stenglein, Wellman, Mattner etc)

Maybe we could upgrade some picks somewhere to get back in the market for Walker?? (I'll give it up at 1:30 on Monday ;))

Good point, though looks like Freo will hand over a 3rd rd. Do we think we're waiting on Jacobs before we let Griff go? So we're not left a ruckman short?

Freo have already traded their 3rd rounder to GC for a player and GC's 4th round pick. best we can get for them is that GC 4th round pick, but Freo will probably just give us their 4th rounder, or even 5th rounder. we will let Griff go regardless of the result with Jacobs, because Griff is going home on compassionate/family reasons and the club would not stop him just because we don't find a replacement.

Not really that much difference anyway... pick 61 compared to pick 55

Cook will be dynamic with a little more time afforded to him. There's a good reason the pies have been hot on him for a few years now.
