Have been very suprised and impressed with Curnow, knows how to get the hard ball and is not bad with his disposal. Best of all he goes in and love the rough stuff, along with Ellard, Army, Robbo it's good to see we have some young tough kids at Carlton.

"I never felt like a Crows player at all. I trained there and did my rehab there, but I felt like a Glenelg reserves player trying to get into the seniors. I was this young Victorian kid, I knew they were never going to give me a game lightly." ;)

Highlights the differences the Victorian and South Australian teams.

Curnow was never given a go at Glenelg and then when he wanted to change teams they invoke a hefty transfer fee? :(

Contrast that with the VFL where each AFL team is aligned with a single club. Subject to VFL quotas, most of our rookies would appear for the Bullants seniors. It's not rocket science - if kids don't play they won't improve.

Craig may have his methods but you'd think if a player was good enough to be rookied from interstate, you'd at least gift him games in the SANFL seniors.

We have a few players on our list that have had a tough journey, I think it makes them that more desperate and when they do get a chance they grab on for dear life. Look at Garlett, Curnow etc.

Let's not set our sights too high with Curnow.
He's just about due for a poor game after being amongst our best for the last 4 weeks.

Don't say that. I need all the SC points I can get at the moment :D:p

This is a really interesting point. There are a couple of very high draft picks on our list that, at the moment, are generally perceived quite negatively because they are not showing the desperation of the Garlett's and Curnow's of this world.

Of course, perceptions can be misleading. That said, still wouldn't mind a bit of the doggedness and determination to succeed that characterises these lads rubbing off on a few others.

Great read. :thumbsu:

If only Fev had the work ethic and attitude of Mr Ed. Makes me wonder how good a player he would have been, it's pretty sobering ...

I love Curnow. Not because he's the flashiest or most talented, but because he wants it. He reminds me or Robinson in that aspect - not the best, but will always give their all.

I think that Mr Ed is going to come out tonight and rip up the Adelaide mids and really show Craig that he should never have let him go...

I think that Carlton is a bit different to the other Victorian AFL teams in regards to rookies. We usually pick guys who are talented but have been overlooked in the draft. Our record of recruiting rookies is second to none and I will take our rookes over any other clubs rookies any day.

Craig doesn't control the SANFL coaches, and the SANFL teams are more interested in winning the SANFL flags than doing the development work for AFL players, particularly when that player would be replacing an SANFL player who in their eyes is better right now.

There have also been personality clashes before - in one particular case, the coach of South Adelaide flat out refused to play Matthew Clarke as he was returning from injury, and so inflammatory was the argument that Adelaide sought and received special permission from the SANFL to move Clarke to another club mid season.

Port Adelaide also has ongoing issues with Nick Salter - they think he is a defender, but North Adelaide (quite successfully) plays him at full forward.

ed has been tremendous, cracking game against the crowbots, im glad he stuck it up them! he is just dogged and determined, not flashy but solid. I love his in and under, but just as impressive he has that canny ability by hand to get rid of it like judd when he probably shouldn't! big thumbs up, we have a keeper here!
