..... the departure of champion forward Drew Petrie...

Rangy 193cm rookie Oscar Junker impressed with his ability to find space and time in traffic, and the Western Jets product didn't look out of place just two weeks into his career at North.
While stacking supplies down in the Junker Bunker I'm wondering at how the word 'champion' has evolved....

Stevo still seems to be there.

1. Finally we get to see what Stevo looks like when he smiles
2. How does a Kiwi-born Samoan Australian Rugbyer living in Canberra become a Rooboy? Impressive fan recruitment!
3.Hope his health is ok :thumbsu:
4. Can someone label the players in the photo for me? Pretty sure I see Junker and Ahern but I'm hopeless with hew people.

At Training...

Mountford, Hibberd, Preuss and Hrovat looking really good.

Thomas has injured Swallow, Mullet did his shoulder. Gibbo doing his usual hospital kicks.

Intensity was crazy good.
Thanks. How's Simpkin looking? And the big fellas in durdin and McKay?

Simpkin was sitting out the full ground work, and didn't spot him during the stupid tackling drill / get your ass out of trouble drill they seemed to be practicing.

In said silly drill, Higgins made everyone looks stupid. No one got near him, just too much talent.

Wood, Mountford, Hibberd, MacMillan, MacDonald and Garner all look huge. Like not just a little big, but ******* Monstrously deformed big. Garner was sprinting laps to the point of near death. And has a set of of shoulders / Ass on him now that will make him even more of a weapon than he already is.

Durdin looks really good, seemed very relaxed and part of the group, very happy and has wonderful mobility for a guy not much smaller than Goldy. The sooner we just stick the freak at CHB and build our team around him the better.

Didn't see McKay as I was more on the side of the ground where the mids/smaller forwards were.

I think we can put a line through Wright and Jacobs being anywhere near fit for round 1.

Preuss out marking Goldy with aplomb was a sight, I'm sorry, he is awesome and I can't wait to see him crack a few heads when he gets his chance. Easily the most underrated talent on our list. Could be ANYTHING.

Hrovat is the other that is just a solid little campaigner, has a set of thighs on him that Serena would be proud of, but most importantly hits targets and doesn't lose his feet. Good player, possibly being underrated by a few, I reckon he is a dead set certainty for round 1.

Other than that, JMac looks fantastic, his movement through traffic and high skill level should see him take his talents to the wing this year and possibly even further up the ground. Can football can our JMac.

Ground is in diabolical condition, ******* amateur hour to have so much talent running around on a beach. We aren't ******* Darren Weir. We need to sort it out.

JMac no longer a semi-fraud?

Any other players pique your interest?

Just got his ankle caught up in a tackle, needs to save that old chestnut for Luke Shuey in round 1. Not the ex-skipper in December.

How bad is Mullets shoulder?
Badish, was already taped and went to punch a ball and must have just given it a tweak.

UnProfessional diagnosis was a mild strain of the AC Joint, but what would I know, I told my science teacher to **** off in year 10 and that I wouldn't ever need to know about this shit

Nielson isn't anywhere near as shit as people are saying. Kid knows how to defend space and a man.

Not worried about him at all now. Very good Thompson replacement.

Ed VW has a bit of work to do, even though I can see his class and smarts, still nowhere near round 1 IMO.

That new Williams kid did a great goose step on Mason that Campese would have been proud of, he looks to be quite good with some serious wheels.

Like everything I see and hear about Preuss.

Couldn't agree more about Durdin being plonked at CHB and being told that he ain't moving for 10 years. "Make it yours mate"

Some observations from watching training today:

The Dec. Almost untackleable in said gather / avoid tackler drill, which to me seemed specifically designed to work on the mechanics of quick feet and side-stepping. I liked the drill, particularly whilst no one could catch the Dec (mostly spitta). (Higgo's group wasn't tackling, Dec's group were). We've found one here people. Absolute jet, will play plenty this year.

Big Pruessy. 100% we have our long-term successor to Goldy. Marking everything, lean and fit, looks like our #1 a lot of the time if you didn't know any better. Not sure if this year is his year but whenever he takes the mantle (my guess by 2018) he'll be a beauty.

Mason looks F . I . T. as a bull. Moving beautifully, big year ahead.

Loooove the Rat. Agree with Arjen that he's underrated by some. Lock him in for as many games as he's fit for, oozes smarts.

Marley 'Bobby' Williams looks to have fitted in well, has great wheels both straight line and sideways.

Zurhaar is a bull, bit to work with. Williams is RAZOR thin!

Durds looks fit and strong, noticeably bigger body. Only down side was he had the fumbles, preseason though so whatevs I guess.

Higgo looks awesome, movement is back, same for Jet.

Maj looks like Maj (fraction lighter?), as does JZ, Taz, JMac, Ats etc. Maj will be 40+ this year, will make FF his own.

Cunners is a little leaner, still looks slow but the fact we have buckets of younger pacier guys around him now wouldn't help.

One from left field, I reckon Larkey will be a ripper. Skinny as a bean but moves beautifully for a 6'6"er. Early call I know but I'm getting on the train, ready for departure around 2019.

Also, state of ground is overstated, should be fine come Feb.

Yes, I thought reports of his death were greatly exaggerated. Good to hear, even from a poor judge such as yourself.

Interesting if that's how it pans out. Is presumed by most to be on the cusp due to finish to 2016.

In said silly drill, Higgins made everyone looks stupid. No one got near him, just too much talent.
Despite his AA squad inclusion in 2015 and what he's shown prior to his injury, this guy is, I think, very underrated around here. He's in the Boomer/Wellsy category as far as talent I think, with the finishing skills to boot.

No signs of (hamstring-related) distress from Garner I assume Arjen? Be a massive plus if he can get on the paddock. Interesting to hear about Hibberd too, and that you said he stood out, earlier. Can you say any more about what impressed you about him? I'd love to see him come on, but unsure what specifically he's most likely to add, where.

He was training as a backman? Hope so. Like to see him sooner, rather than latter, at least debut and get a taste for it. I think it was the Werribee vs U18 game where I thought he showed a few very good signs.

:( Sorry for them to hear this, especially as both missed large parts of 2016. I guess, however, these are also where the opportunities lie for the new/younger blood.

He may not be Sandilands big, but he's got more mobility, yeah?

It will be interesting to see how we handle his development and manage game time with him and Goldie.

Not sure who's underrating him but, like both of you, I'd have assumed he's a walk up start for Rd 1 and will, largely, fit in pretty seamlessly. If your comments are anything to go by, I reckon many will be pleasantly surprised by his skills and smarts.

Never in doubt. Has some different attributes to bring that would appear to be attributes we're missing. From all reports, has a great work ethic too.

Looks to have a cross between Lachie and Drew's skill set, with more mobility (?!) to boot?

Edit: Sorry, meant to add a big thanks to you both for the reports. It's one of BF's most vital roles, so thanks!!

Garner looks great. Was sprinting laps and handing out a few sledges along the way. Was rather regal in his approach ans the boys seemed to know they shouldn't get in his way.

Has some presence the boy.

Yeah yeah I'm a shit judge, but Hibberd is just a perfect size, we are a very tall team these days (minus Hrovat the midget) A whole heap of 6'2+ blokes in ripping condition. We look fast, clean and most importantly is a distinct difference in voice on field compared to the last time I was lucky enough to witness training.

As for Preussy, not quite Sandilands level, but very much in the Mumford mould IMO. Just an enormous unit. Looks scary too with the shaved head.

I would have thought he gets games next year should Goldy go down. I'm not sure they can both play in the same team but you never know.
