I'm sure others will have a more in depth look at the draw, but I just wanted somewhere to comment on Molik. through to the second round with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Harkleroad whose career highlight is a Playboy appearance. Plays Ágnes Szávay in the second round which is winnable judging by her current form.

Stosur unlucky enough to probably draw Suarez-Navarro in the second round, Zheng in the third and then probably Jankovic again in the fourth. Much tougher draw this week for her.

Luczak is the only Aussie man in the draw as Marinko goes off to a Challenger in Canada. Very winnable match with Hernández first up, but he'll be mincemeat against Söderling next up.

Oh, and shout out to Drummond with the thread title. ;)

Molik's win was expected, great draw for her, if she can beat Szavay would be another fantastic tournament.

Dellacqua qualified to this morning, not sure who she plays but good to see at her at this level again.

Stosur's draw is insane, it's a pity they didn't do the rankings from this week for the seedings because her draw would of been muche asier at no.8 than no.9. She isn't defending her points and if she makes to the 4th round I would very happy.

Luczak has probably one of the eaiest draws with hernandez but hasn't shown much sign of anything lately.

Marinko didn't make the cutoff for qualies as there was less spots and the cutoff was high, wonder why Ball pulled out of it though.

Dellacqua drew Ekaterina Makarova whilst Anastasia Rodionova (our No. 3 now, I think) gets Andrea Petkovic. Petkovic is a bit of a stunner.

Men's draw is interesting now that we have had IW as a guide. Federer to meet Berdych in the 4th round might be a danger and I've tipped an upset in my bracket. Cilic is in that quarter as well if he's awake this week. Murray and Soderling again in that same 2nd quarter, Soderling for me to take this one out again. 3rd quarter is where Nadal is and should meet the winner of Tsonga/Isner, Isner might upset him there as Tsonga's horrible returning contiunes. And the last quarter is where there will be a lot of fun, Djokovic ahs got one hell of a draw, Gasquet in the 2nd, Blake in the 3rd, Querrey in the 4th, I see him losing to one of those 3 unless he steps it up. (I've gone with Blake, he needs a big win and has been close a few times lately).

In the end, Soderling def. Nadal, Nadal should shake off that loss to Ljubicic, he's form before was actually quite good. Gone with Soderling just because he's in good form and despite that awful loss to Roddick in the semis, maybe he might do something, or maybe he might lsoe 2nd round.

For the women, let's pick a name out of the hat.... Venus Williams but I think this tournament it's time for Woziancki to step up and win a big title

I might as well post the draw in case anyone wants to scan through the matches. Thanks for starting it SBI. :thumbsu: Good thing the new rankings aren't in place matt, imagine Ana coming up against Venus first round! Great stuff from Alicia already, hoping she can make it to the 3rd which is certainly plausible. Rough draw for Sammy, really rough, let's just hope she can win a couple.

Preview:

Roger Federer will be hoping to put aside the disappointment of last week when he looks to win his third Miami crown and first since 2006. He couldn’t have asked for an easier path to the fourth where Berdych should be waiting, assuming Tomas gets passed talented youngster de Bakker first up. On the bottom of Federer’s half is Marin Cilic who also suffered a disappointing tournament in Indian Wells, except he failed to even make it past the first hurdle. He’s got either Beck or Robert in the second round and neither have the talent to send Cilic on a losing streak. Cilic will face a tough test against Baghdatis in the 3rd and the Cypriot showed his class last week by defeating Federer. If he escapes that one he’ll likely face Verdasco or Melzer, the former will be looking to at least match last year’s QF effort. Cilic appeared both physically and mentally spent last week and will be better for the rest after a gruelling start to the year. I think Federer and Cilic will square off in the QF’s but there are dangerous floaters in this half.

On the opposite side of the top half, Andy Murray will be looking to defend his Miami crown and I believe he will, despite showing very little last week. He’s given hints that the MS events aren’t his primary focus and that he’ll be treating them as tournaments where he can fine-tune his game in preparation for the Slams. Despite that, and despite his rather pitiful showing in Indian Wells, I think he’ll bounce back for a number of reasons. He owns a house in Miami and therefore spends a lot of his time there, especially while training in the heat prior to the new season. Being comfortable in the surroundings is always a good thing. He’s also got a good draw; Fish is dangerous in the second (second unlucky draw for Fish), as is Lopez but neither should win. It’s then likely to be Wawrinka or Youzhny, Wawrinka is a huge pretender whilst Youzhny has been in terrific form but missed last week, due to fatigue I believe. Murray should book a QF place without too much trouble.

Robin Soderling showed what he’s capable of last week, both the good and bad. The good saw him brush off Tsonga and Murray in convincing fashion and the bad was all the chances he squandered in his SF loss to Roddick. He should advance to face Gonzalez or Monaco in the 3rd, a match-up with Gonzalez could be a potential classic. Soderling certainly has the potential to be achieving success at these events but whether he will is a different story. I think his run could come to an end against Gonzo, if not there, then against Murray who should be better prepared this time around.

As the #2 seed, last year’s finalist Novak Djokovic is at the very bottom of the draw and he’ll be looking to put last week’s nightmare behind him. He got bageled by Fish, fought off match points against Kohlschreiber and barely put up a fight against eventual champion Ljubicic. His draw is tricky with Gasquet possibly waiting in the 2nd and the talented lefty Bellucci in the 3rd, or perhaps Blake. Not easy, but if he’s serious about winning he should escape from this section. Querrey or Almagro are likely 4th round foes, the American might have to face Ancic in the second who could prove a handful. It’s becoming almost impossible to predict Djokovic these days; he always seems to have something wrong with him and his current form could see him become an early casualty. He is however a former champion here and can finally claim to having some decent rest so in theory he should be primed to go deep.

On the comeback from a knee injury, Rafael Nadal looked dominant during patches in Indian Wells before suddenly letting slip a commanding position in his SF loss to Ljubicic. All up I think he’d take confidence in the form he found and he should go deep here. Nothing in his immediate bracket causes concern, except perhaps for Nalbandian should be make it to the 3rd. He’s caused him trouble in the past but he’s a long way off his best. He wouldn’t have trouble with 15th seed Ferrer so I’d suggest he’d be hoping he can knock off Karlovic who might fancy his chances should the two meet. I’m tipping Nadal to feed off his mounting confidence and I think he’ll make it to his third Miami final and this time hope the result is different.

Having unofficially taken over reigns as the games most boring player, Andy Roddick will be hoping to set up a re-match of the Indian Wells final in the 4th round. I’m extremely tempted to pick an upset and go with Andreev to defeat Roddick in the second. Sometimes Roddick struggles with back-to-back tournaments and he’s had issues with Andreev’s game in the past. Andreev himself is extremely unpredictable though and could lose to qualifier Xavier Malisse first up. I’ll back Roddick to advance though simply because he’s a bit too consistent to lose this early. In the bracket below the seeds are his bunny Robredo and Ljubicic who I highly doubt can go anywhere near as deep here. While he does have a very good record in Miami, at 31 and coming off the biggest title of his career, he’ll find backing it up a tough ask. I’ve got Roddick down to make the Quarters but it makes me uneasy, something tells me he’ll fall early but if he does beat Andreev, he should set up a clash with Djokovic.

Joe Wilfried Tsonga has a decent draw with Kohlschreiber in the third and either Isner/JC Ferrero in the 4th. He would certainly have issues with Isner and this is where I’ve got his run ending because he struggles against the quality servers. Quite simply, JWS is overrated and until he can strengthen his backhand and return of serve he’ll never win anything substantial. That’s his cue to prove me wrong, but I can’t see it. Last week the surprise winner was Ljubicic and even Roddick was a surprise finalist. Del Potro is still out, struggling with his wrist, and Davydenko is also absent for the same ailment. Gonzalez is welcomed back and Cilic is too, because he didn’t really rock up at Indian Wells. Can there be more big surprised in store in Miami? I doubt it, simply because the top players have either regained some form or had some rest. My picking abilities are suspect at best right now though, after failing to even mention Ljubicic, picking Cilic to reach the final and on the women's side, calling Jankovic irrelevant.

Prediction: Murray def. Nadal

I’m going for Murray to defend his title and for Rafa to claim his third runner-up trophy. When I think back to Murray's form last week I cringe at this selection but I explained my reasons above and I'm hoping they'll prove to be correct. Federer’s always a worthy bet because if he truly wants to win, he probably will. Many wrote off his short term chances of capturing another MS shield after Montreal last year and he responded by destroying Murray and Djokovic in back-to-back matches to claim the title in Cincinnati. Does he want it though, and how far is he willing to push himself to do so? I think he’ll lose to Murray in the Semi’s. Although he came up a little short last week, Nadal displayed some solid form and I think he’ll make the final but again fall at the final hurdle. All in all, this promises to be a better tournament than the rather uninspiring Indian Wells.

Preview:

Why I bother even attempting to make any sort of predictions for the women is beyond me. Half the seeds are likely to be out by the third round and we’ll be left with over the hill, unseeded mediocrity. Mediocrity is the name of the game on the women’s tour right now though. Serena Williams is absent, still recovering from her knee injury, but her sister returns and is looking for her 4th Miami crown. I'll try not to make this long, I’ll merely point out a few of the big guns and who I'm looking at to step up.

Yanina Wickmayer is one I’d like to see step up. Certainly possessing future top 10 potential, Wickmayer needs to go deep at one of these Premier Mandatory events to prove she belongs amongst the game’s elite. Her draw is good, but I’m starting to think I shouldn’t even look at the draws these days because they mean nothing. Anyone can lose to anyone, and if someone looms as a threat they’ll probably be knocked out beforehand anyway. I think Yanina will reach the Semi’s where she’ll face Venus Williams. Having returned to the tour after her yearly skipping of Indian Wells, Venus faces Sorana Cirstea first up who shocked the tennis world by winning. Hantuchova and Petrova are in her bracket, both falling very much in the same category, unpredictable. Pennetta's form seems to be trailing away so she’s no real threat, and yet I've got her down for the Semi's? Venus will come through her half unless she decides she doesn’t have the motivation.

Sabine Lisicki is having a horrid year but one look at her and you can probably see why. She’s not in the best of shape and her talent can’t make up for that. She’s ultra talented no doubt and it’s why seeing her play so awful is hard to watch. She faces Shvedova first up who could be a top 10 player if only she developed greater consistency and improved her shot selection. This will be a big win for one of these girls and it’ll give them confidence when facing Pennetta. Very bottom bracket contains Ivanovic, still seeded but that’s a luxury she won’t have for much longer. Let’s see if she can lose to Bammer in the second round, now there’s a test. Radwanska had a great Indian Wells and will be hoping to continue that form.

The bottom half contains Jankovic who proved me wrong in Indian Wells but she’s likely to prove me right two weeks later. I’d like to see the ball bashing Georges take her out but doesn’t seem within the realm of possibility. Stosur also had a good week but faces the potentially tricky Suarez Navarro first up. Kim Clijsters will be looking to improve on her showing last week and her draw is good although Peer might be tough. The talented but very streaky Safarova is in this section as is the underachieving Victoria Azarenka. She’s having a solid year but seems to just be falling short. Victoria has fond memories of this event as she is the defending champion but will likely face Martinez Sanchez who sent her packing in Indian Wells. She’ll be hoping Safarova can do her dirty work but given Lucie is a similar player to Victoria; MJMS might again stand in her path.

By far the most intuiging section of the draw is bottom half of the bottom side of the draw. Dementieva and Henin look set to square off in the second round again, assuming Henin can defeat Craybas which if she can’t she might as well be off to retire once more. Like I said last week, I’ll tip Elena if this match-up occurs. Young talent aplenty lies in this section with Cibulkova, Kleybanova, Pavlychenkova and Wozniacki all featuring. Caroline made the Indian Wells final and again came up short on the big occasion, perhaps a worrying trend? Does her style of play fail to get it done in the big matches? There are also some youngsters who are just a peg below the aforementioned, with Cornet hoping to turn her career around, Arantxa Rus looking to find the success she had as a junior and young Brit Heather Watson hoping to make her mark on the senior tour. There’s also Oudin looking to re-establish some ground and she’ll face Krajicek, almost in the same boat but a few years older. There could be some success stories to come from this section.

Future top 10’er Polona Hercog destroyed Strycova 6-3, 6-0 and is continuously improving on hard courts. She now faces Wozniak who is well and truly out of form, a big opportunity for Hercog. There’s also Petra Martic who, being in the tournament courtesy of a WC, advanced through to the second round after beating Julia Coin in the first round. She’ll face Rezai, talented but also extremely inconsistent, within a match even. A big chance for Martic also. I'll be pleased with this tournament if either could make a decent run here, the same applies with a few other youngsters who need to step up.

Prediction: V.Williams def. Clijsters

I really have absolutely no clue as to who will advance to the third round let alone win. I think you’ve done extremely well if you can pick a winner of ANY women’s tournament let alone one as big as this. It’s just a lucky dip trying to predict a winner and runner-up. You could make cases for and against every player. The safe option of Serena isn’t available; perhaps the next best is Venus. I’ll go for Venus to defeat Clijsters and hope this doesn’t blow up in my face. From the top half I’ll say the Semi’s will be Kuznetsova/Wickmayer and Venus/Pennetta and the bottom I’ll take Clijsters/Zheng and Zvonareva/Wozniacki. I’d be happy to have any of those players feature.

Thanks Drummond :thumbsu: See if Murray turns up for you this week, that's probably more likely than Soderling having another run.

Dellacqua lost this morning, 6-3, 7-5 to Makarova and Rodionova lost as well.

Other noticables, Nalbandian won his first round match as well as Henin while Ancic and Gasquet both lost. While Blake is a set down to a guy ranked 330 in the world.

A set all now.

Some of the results, bad for my picks. Ancic losing to Chardy? Gasquet, why doesn't he just retire. Had a bad feeling about Mathieu given his complete late of form this year but thought he'd beat Marchenko, obviously not.

Some interesting results for the women.

Cornet won, despite being bageled in the 2nd, but a win is good. Paszek actually won, hold the press. Rus lost in a 3rd set tiebreak, getting to 6 points. Might have had a MP, not sure. Heather Watson lost.

Yeah, I had Ancic beating Chardy as well, stuffed a couple of others as well, thought Llodra would contiune his horrrible "I don't care about US HC tournaments" form and lose to the youngster Harrisson and Dent as well, didn't think he would win let alone that easily.

Blake just slipped through luckily, I'm banking on him upsetting Djokovic in the 3rd.

Ancic is still well off the pace IMO. Surprised he made it as far as he did in IW and needs some real time to come back. Hopefully Chardy, like Zverev, is finding form now.

And love the fact that Eduardo Schwank is censored.

Molik?! Must have played similar to what she did during Fed Cup. Hard to believe given her recent form though.

[WC] P Martic (CRO) d [18] A Rezai (FRA) 75 57 64
Yes!! 3rd round, 80 ranking points, good job! :thumbsu:

Y Shvedova (KAZ) d [23] S Lisicki (GER) 63 01 ret.
Lisicki retired AGAIN? Something is seriously wrong.

[25] A Ivanovic (SRB) d [Q] P Parmentier (FRA) 64 63
She won a match, truly staggering!

P Hercog (SLO) d [31] A Wozniak (CAN) 76(5) 63
On the road to top 10! ;) She now faces Bacsinszky, I like her chances there!

Seriously, what is wrong with Gasquet. This is like the millionth time he's lost in the first round since his come-back.

I reckon if he'd managed to beat Baghdatis in the Sydney final, we'd be seeing a different Gasquet. Right now his confidence is shot.

Good win by Stosur over CSN. Stosur was down a set and 5-3 in the second, but came back strong. Ended up winning 4-6 7-5 6-2.

Djokovic lost to Rochus. Seriously stuffs up my bracket, I had him making the final. What the hell is going on with him?

That bottom little section is compltely stuffed for me, Blake and Querrey both lost as well. It's not the first time Djokovic has had a bad loss here in Miami, the guy better get his act together fast or his ranking will start to slip, he will stay at no.2 after this event though

Great win by Sam, showing some fight, probably wasn't playing very well but to manage to find a way back, that must give her a lot of confidence because that's what a top 10 player should be able to do, find a way to win.

A pity no coverage for today, Henin/Dementieva still to play.

Oh boy, my bottom bracket is stuffed. Like you guys I had Blake to beat Bellucci (not sure why), Querrey to reach the 4th and Djokovic to reach the final even though I thought I changed it to Rafa.

Great win by Sammy!

As for coverage, begins tomorrow at 4:00pm on Fox. It'll then go live on Sunday night, or Monday morning to be accurate. Eurosport will be showing the women's again, but don't rely on their coverage too much.

There will be streams tomorrow for anyone who's interested watching it live, trying to work if Court 2 is the third televised court over Court 1 because more men's matches are on that court plus that's where the Luczak/Soderling match is being played.

Ljubicic was 6-4, 1-0 up before deciding to retire, ummm, tank....

Henin beating Dementieva 6-3, 5-0, step up from her performance two weeks ago.

He hurt his back while serving... Looking very bad for him.. apparently couldn't stand up by himself... :(

Yeah, I've heard this now. Apologies for my comment eariler there, sounds really bad actually. Hopefully it isn't as bad as it sounds.

Tsonga and Roddick through. Roddick pretty much has a cake walk now after Ljubicic retired.

I've said this on other forums as well, can't blame Roddick for Djokovic's poor form. Hoping Andy can make use of this handy draw now.

Bet365.com will be showing Luczak-Soderling, so there will be a stream available. :thumbsu: Probably be able to catch it on other sites as well.

Verdasco, Baghdatis and Cilic all through to the third round with straight sets wins.
Baghdatis v Cilic, should be a good game:thumbsu:

Wtf is going on with Murrary? It seems as if hes not taking these tournments seriously.
