We keep rolling on this week to Cincy, which is basically a mini US Open with the way the grounds look now. Most of the top guys are here with Nadal being the exception still having issues with the knee. Tsonga is out to with having a car accident and getting stiches for his knee, he'll be playing in New York. While with the girls, Sharapova, Ivanovic and Azarenka are out but the rest are in so very strong fields with this being the main lead-in to New York.

Play has started and we have already had some Aussie involvement. Tomic pulled off a bit of a surprise by beating another young gun in Ryan Harrison, match wasn't shown so can't say how the match played but solid result for Tomic who gets to face another american Brian Baker in the 2nd round, match will be played around 5am tomorrow (3rd on court 3), unsure whether ESPN are showing it. Lleyton Hewitt got a WC and faced Youzhny in the first round, another solid consistent performance to beat Youzhny 6-4, 6-4. Seemed to be moving very well and frustated Youzhny, got to serve a lot better though. Triocki in the enxt round is another winnable matchup where Triocki can give a lot of errors, hopefully Lleyton can take advantage. Matosevic was able to qualify as well and had a good draw facin the claycourter Andjuar in the first round. So it would be a 6-3, 6-4 loss for Marinko, he is still contiuning his very good year though.

A couple of Aussie women too, Stosur has her 2nd rounder against Medina Garrigues on at 5am on Europsort, Sam should be too strong and she needs the wins badly, hope for a good week where potnetial 3rd rounder is Petrova. Dellacqua qualified as well but got spanked by Larsson this morning.

As far the top guys go, Murray might actually be the favourite slightly, in great form, lastw eek withdrawl didn't mean anything and should kick on from Olympic gold. Roger should be well rested and set to go, he would be just slightly behind Murray. Djokovic won last week but surely he will burn out as we get deep in the tournament.

ESPN and Eurosport are covering it as always in the mornings.

Tomic beat Baker 6-4 6-3. And will most likely play Fed in round 3. Good to see him winning back to back matches. Sam won 6-3 6-7 6-4. She was down 4-1 in the third. She could play Makarova in the third. I would be worried with that match up. Makarova can hit a ball.

Good to see Bernie get his act together a bit and win a couple of matches, hopefully he just goes out there and enjoys himself against Fed.

Sam winning a close game might help a bit as she's lost most of her tight matches this year. Medina Garrigues is a tough player (I thought she was playing Halep though?) Confused....

I don't think Troicki has done much of late so Lleyton definitely in with a shot. He's also been awarded the USO WC so hopefully the draw is kind for a change...

Was one of the worst performances from lleyton ever, just hitting errors everywhere, it was the type of match that made you think there is another injury. We'll find out.

Tomic lost to Federer 6-2 6-4. Better scoreline then i was expecting.

Stosur beat Makarova 6-3 6-1.:) Maybe back in form? Find out tomorrow when she plays Venus.

TBH I was a bit disappointed and surprised when I heard about that. I hope there's nothing wrong, unless Troicki was on fire, and even if he hasn't been good of late he was about 10 in the world recently.

On the other hand it was a nice surprise to hear about Stosur's score. Makarova on her day is quality (as Serena found out at AO this year). I haven't really been going out of my way to follow Sam's matches of late as I'm trying to unaddict myself from tennis and the stress that comes with it:p . I did actually watch the last time Stosur played Venus and Venus won easily, but Stosur was useless. Hopefully she can turn the tables.

She's no chance against venus...

Nothing special about Tomic's match, federer dictated the play and Tomic didn't try to stop it. Nothing to see signs of improvement, least he got a couple of wins.

Murray out to Chardy of all people, throws a spanner in the US Open picture.

Anyone see or follow Sam's match? she lost another close one, but apparently played quite well. At least she had a good week here but I'm still not convinced she's played enough matches before USO. It'll take a near on miracle for her to defend her title, but I think if she managed to defend a good portion of her points I'd take it. Hopefully she can still get to YEC at the end of the year so she can continue lining her pockets :p

Didn't see it, Eurosport didn't have it on for some reason, the sad thing is I look at that scoreline and think, that's an ok result, she should be winning those matches really. The stats from the match aren't too bad actually. As far as New York goes, who knows, it's all upstairs for Sam and that's just impossible to predict.

Djokovic/Del Potro should be a lot of fun tomorrow morning.. Djoko, Fed and Delpo all looking in nice form :thumbsu:

Hmm, not sure that scoreline bodes well for Djokovic's USO defence.... I know I'm stating the obvious but a not up to his best Novak, no Rafa means it could be Murray's turn to finally win a slam, especially seeing as he's made 3 HC slam finals.

I wouldn't write Djokovic off. He's basically not had any break since the olympics given he played and won at Toronto. Federer was the fresher player in this match and it told. I was surprised Djokovic made the final to be honest.

His form is good though and now he'll have a chance to freshen up a bit before the USO. Who knows how Murray will go. Wouldn't be surprised if he wins or if he goes out early.

I was tipping a big USO from Del Potro myself, but not sure now given his wrist problem.

Surely this is Murray's best chance yet with no Nadal, and Tsonga and Del Potro under injury clouds. Still, it would be a brave call to suggest that the winner isn't coming out of Djokovic or Federer.
