Oldham keeper Pogliacomi returns to Australia
tribalfooball.com - February 26, 2008

Injury-plagued Oldham Athletic goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old Australian has decided to leave the Latics and return to his homeland after being told earlier this month that his troublesome knee injury requires surgery that will keep him on the sidelines for at least one year.

Pogliacomi made 187 appearances in his two spells with the club.

He initially joined Oldham in 2002 and returned at the beginning of last season after a brief period with Blackpool.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Everyone connected with Oldham Athletic would like to wish Les all the best for the future as he prepares to head back to Australia."

Kennedy scores again - that's four in five games. Karlsruhe currently in fifth, which would put them in next season's UEFA Cup if they could stay there.

Why can't Holman play any good for the Socceroos, yet seems to score a few goals for his club side ??

I think thats right yeah but still doesnt explain why any hack can score !!!

To be honest I dont think he is as bad as some people say, just not worthy of a Socceroo shirt that he keeps getting.

Dinamo Zagreb swoop for Aussie pair Dugandzic, Visevic
tribalfooball.com - March 03, 2008

Aussie winger Mate Dugandzic has signed with Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.
The tricky 18 year-old midfielder joins Dinamo after several years with Australia's Melbourne Knights.

Following Dugandzic to Dinamo is his 20 year-old former Knights teammate Daniel Visevic.

Why do our players like going to those crappy countries like Romania, it boggles the mind.

Coz it Europe and they are getting paid a decent amount.

youngsaint that is simply not the case. they get about 200k AUD per year at best. How many times has an aussie player gone to Romania or Poland and absolutely hated it. AND its always the case of the 'coach hates me. he totally ignores me'.

Australians In Europe

Brett Holman [NEC Nijmegen]

Holman netted a brace for NEC as they clinched a 3-1 home win against Graafschap Doetinchem to move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The striker put his team ahead on 33 minutes before Krisztian Vadocz doubled the lead three minutes after the restart.

Graafschap’s Niklas Tarvajarvi pulled one back on the hour mark, but Holman secured the win with his goal 15 minutes from time.

Mark Schwarzer [Middlesbrough]

The Socceroos keeper endured a miserable afternoon against Championship side Cardiff as Middlesbrough were stunned 2-0 in the FA Cup. Cardiff signalled their early intention when midfielder Peter Whittingham fired a powerful curler past Schwarzer on nine minutes.

Roger Johnson doubled the lead in the 22nd minute after he headed home Whittingham’s free kick to help Cardiff secure the win.

Tim Cahill [Everton]

The Australia international has apologised for his handcuff celebration to his imprisoned brother, Sean, after last weekend’s 3-1 win over Portsmouth.

However, Cahill did not score as Everton clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Sunderland.

The midfielder had his first half header deflected onto a post by Anthony Stokes. But in the end, it was striker Andrew Johnson who scored the winner for the Toffees.

Lucas Neill [West Ham]

Neill’s West Ham team were hammered 4-0 by Tottenham. Bulgaria international grabbed a brace in the first 10 minutes while Gilberto and Darren Bent scored a goal apiece to round off the emphatic win.

Did not feature: Harry Kewell [Liverpool], Mark Viduka [Newcastle], Brett Emerton [Blackburn]

Nick Carle [Bristol City]

Carle was substituted just after half time where Bristol City drew 0-0 with Leicester.

David Carney [Sheffield United]

Carney started for the Blades as they secured a 1-0 away win against Plymouth.

Richard Garcia [Hull City]

Garcia started for Hull’s 2-0 win against Scampaignerhorpe without scoring and was substituted late in the second half.

Scott McDonald [Celtic]

The in-form Australia striker was restored to the Celtic starting eleven in their Scottish Cup against Aberdeen, after being benched for last week’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

McDonald had two golden attempts on goal – one was flagged for offside while the other hit the woodwork.

Aberdeen had taken the lead through Jeffery de Visscher in the 78th minute before Celtic’s Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored in the last minute to secure a 1-1 draw.

Zeljko Kalac [AC Milan]

Kalac started for Milan as they clinched a 3-1 win over Empoli. The veteran keeperdid not have too many saves to make as most of Empoli’s shots were off-target.

Alexandre Pato fired Milan ahead in the 19th minute before Antonio Busce levelled for Empoli after 23 minutes. Massimo Ambrosini broke the deadlock with a header in the 86th and Kaka secured victory with a minute left.

Mark Bresciano [Palermo]

Midfielder Mark Bresciano watched from the bench as Palermo drew 1-1 with Udinese.

Holman AGAIN !!!!

I know its the highest scoring league but seriously WTF is going on.

■Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has encouraged Olyroos winger James Troisi to leave English Premier League struggler Newcastle United to revive his career.

Adelaide-born Troisi recently had a trial with Dutch club Roda JC Kerkrade, and Verbeek, who wants to use him in this year's World Cup campaign, believes lack of first-team football is hurting his development.

"It's time for him to make a decision because it's already one-and-a-half years too long," Verbeek said.

"Troisi has to make a decision, 'Do I stay at Newcastle and make good money or do I go to another club and pick up my career?' … that's not easy."

Pim is spot on with that comment though, from what i have seen of Troisi he has a great deal of talent and needs to be playing first team footy!
