The much anticipated and highly exciting biannual Avalon Airshow returns in two weeks! Reminisce as the vintage aircraft complete a slow fly over and don't blink or you may miss the jet fighters speeding past.

Always a fun day out. Don't forget to take the camera.

As well as the mesmorising flying displays, there are a plethora of static aircraft and aviators about and they are normally happy to have a chat and in some displays you may enter the various aircraft.

It's also possible to fly in to Avalon on a commercial aircraft whilst the show is on (could be a novel way to arrive presuming you don't have a private jet/helicopter to touchdown on Avalon East).

Get there early to get a 'spot' as close to the runway touchdown zone as possible. Suggest bring a chair and food/drink (no grog).

Never understood why this is the perception, 95% (at least) of private flying in Australia, is piston singles or light twins owned by normal middle class people. Not to mention I doubt too many people will take jets to the grass at Avalon East:p

If you want to fly from Moorabbin, there are plenty of charter operators offering return flights from around $150-200, you get there in 15 mins and avoid the pain of parking and the traffic on the freeway.

I should have mentioned private plane :)
Someone had to catch me out.

Anyhow, I look forward to the offer of the jump seat on a commercial or co-pilots seat on a light aircraft :D

Well if you hang around in the run up bay at Moorabbin on the day with a sign, someone may just take you along:p

Forget staring into the sky for a few hours and go to a real airshow where the jets go past you at eye level. You do have to climb a mountain first though, so there's pros and cons.
