Gezz,I didn't relise how good a year Stanton had in 2006 untill I got my copy of the Bomber year book mag and read the stats for the season.

Brent Stanton.

1st- in disposals
1st -in general kicks
1st -in long kicks
1st- in handballs recieved
3rd- in general marks
2nd-in uncontested marks
2nd-in loose ball gets
1st- inside 50m
4th- in rebound 50m

....and 4th in the Crichton Medal.

and kicked 12 goals and 18 points...note BS-work on goal kicking;)

All in all, this kid,I think, will be our own Robert Harvey or perhaps another Gary O'Donnell in the near future....

How well do you rate him?

I agree, was discussing this with my cousin over the weekend, I like your comparison to Robert Harvey. Not sure if anyone will have the same engine as Banger, but Stants could go close.

Stanton will end up even fitter than RH I reakon.

Stanton must also have an incredible mental focus in the mold of a Cousins,Scott West or Kerr. To get that much ball around packs and out in the open takes more than just footskills and quick hands.Good young player:thumbsu:

stanton is one of my favourite players, he just keep running and running and wont give up. he seems to be quite the prolific ball winner, he will turn out to be a star at essendon. b&f next year or the year after.

Quality stats from a quality player. expect bigger things this year and will start to be tagged a bit heavier. Great future when disposal improves

His running fantastic, seems to have a huge motor on him and i believe he will become one of the games elite midfielders in the next 3 years

Once he kicking has improved, then i can relax. I'm sure it will and make it one of the elite midfielders in the comp.

I have a feeling Stanton's kicking will improve considerably over summer and we will see an even better player next year.

With that much of the ball,in a losing, confidence zapped side like we were this season...imagine what he'll do when we are winning!

Agree . While he still needs to work on his disposal i think we will see it improve if the whole side is playing better.
I can say that disposal is one area we have been really focusing with our training so far this pre season. There has been a number of drills that have been specific to improving disposl by hand and foot as well as more goal kicking.

I thought Stant's kicking in 2006 was an improvement on previous years. It should get better again with experience and lots of practice.

I have no stats etc to back this up, just my gut feel.

You could tell towards the end of the season it was getting better and he had more confidence

He made less errors per game this year than he did last year, considering he also averaged more disposals this year, that suggests there is definately an improvement.

I don't reckon his kicking was ever that bad, more his decision making. That's definately improved and with further experience it will improve further.

Don't see him missing too many set shots, but his goal kicking on the run could improve further. Doesn't miss by much when he does miss.

Yes,confidence.

He's the type of dream kid who gets better every season starting at young age,and by the time he's 23-24 he's in the elite.
