That's not as far-fetched as you would think mate. His athletisism for a bloke of 200cm is astonishing. Doesn't have the speed of Goodes, but should he develop the way I think he could develop, he really could be anything.

You know I respect you HBF, and take notice of everything you say, and while Jamison certainly wasn't 'pantsed' like some are saying, he played okay on Richo, but, Kosi is far more athletic than Richo, Kosi isn't as strong, but his height would cause Jamo all sorts of problems.

How effective do you expect Gehrig to be, if he even plays? He'd be way underdone, and wont have a big impact on the game, Jamison can easily go with Gehrig, Setanta, height/athleticism/strengh matches up perfectly on Kosi and of course, Waite has to go with Riewoldt, also, not sure about Scotland on Schneider, as much as it pains me to say this, have a feeling that Hoops will get that role.

Sounds ok to me. I guess when we have played St.kilda in the past, Gehrig has usually had a day out against our defenders. Will most certainly be a help to us that he is a little under-prepared.

I think it may have come across as a little too sarcastic... at the time of the draft I was suggesting him as being a Cox type however as I have watched him and read more and more on him I am starting to think he is in the mould of Goodes. Watching Goodes last night at the Dome I was thinking there were a lot of similarities... On the speed issue... one thing I learnt from my time at the knights there is no "specialist" coaching to the extreme of a "sprint" coach. I remember one summer McKinley (from West Coast) who I went to school with actually enlisted the help of the Quinn bloke from Essendon to help him on his speed... Speed is something we can work on... his above and below the gut work is great and his agility is fantastic...

stkilda certainly has the potentiall to kick 20+ goals in a game, with carltons inexperianced defence more than likely will so it beggs the question WHO for carlton will kick the goals specially considering the depth of their defence ,fowards, midfeilders,ruckmen stkilda is a very explosive and dangerous outfit along with geelong the best in the afl imo.
anything under 10 goal win to the saints is a win for carlton imo

I'm normally the optimist when it comes to Carlton.. but I'm pretty worried about this game. on paper, St Kilda has the best side in the league IMO.

The main forward I'm worried about at the moment is Koschitzke. Waite should do a reasonable job on riewoldt.. and gehrig is underdone.. but kosi looks dangerous. irish will probably play on him, or maybe thornton or jamison. Irish is a stick insect at the moment, thornton is too loose and jamison is too small for kosi. so in any case signs look ominous I think

I would think that Thornton would play as a lose man in the backline and plug the hole... if not him then someone like a Cloke. Waite will play back, he will play on Reiwoldt and he will beat Reiwoldt as he has done the last couple of times. There is no need to rush him into the forward line just yet. I know the canyon at CHF was huge but at the end of the day Waite has beaten Reiwoldt hands down the last couple of times.

Generally backlines are things you can fix with a big man (who knows what he is doing) plugging the hole. It wont solve everything but will at least stem the flow a little. Our major problem is going to be our forward line. Where are the goals going to come from?

We need to get Armfield and Pfieffer into the side. Their 2nd and 3rd efforts along with their forward line pressure is what we need. Watching the Hawthorn game today Rioli and Stokes were amazing... Rioli won out in a 3 on 1 situation twice... we need to keep the ball in there because it isn't going to come in there much on Saturday night!

We have to stop the ball getting down there most importantly. If we give their forwards enough chances we will get carved up . We HAVE to win the ball on half back or in the middle, use the corridor for a change and deliver it to our forwards. Ball control and time in possession are critical in a game like that against the Saints.

No it doesn't. Demolishing someone indicates that they had little to no influence on the game, and were well below their average. Riewoldt has always killed us in the past and kicked many goals against us - to keep him to only one goal considering his history and that your midfield was dominant, I'd say it was a pantsing.

Not to mention that in most one on one contests in that game, either in the air or at ground level, Waite beat him convincingly.

i think we have to realise here that it's not so much the quality of st. kilda's forwards which will determine this match - every forward matches well against our defenders, that won't change soon.

what we have to do is nullify the opportunities those forwards have to kick goals - and that lies with the midfield. if we can stop the ball getting in our defensive 50 as much as it does then we are in with a bigger chance.

and for those of you thinking our midfield is better than the saints - get your hand of it. did you see how richmond ran through our players last time? our pressure and tackling was attrocious. as was our delivery inside 50 (except for stevo). we couldn't hit targets for shit - that's our biggest problem i think.

this is yet another situation where stats can only demonstrate so much...

Thornton played on Riewoldt in the 2006 game and waite pantsed Riewoldt in the first 2007 match... the second time round waite was pantsed but either way they match up very well and depending on the feed from the midfield (ie: carltons mid field restricting the quick constant entry) Waite should beat him easily.

Our mids need to get back as often as possible to help out our backline and then they need to run hard and quick through the midfield to give our forwards every opportunity to kick a winning score.

We will probably need a three-way rotation in the ruck agaisnt two very experienced ruckman in King and Gardiner.

Carlos on Gehrig, Waite on Riewoldt, Thornton on Kozi and I'd roll the dice and play Carrazzo on Milne.

Murphy and Betts to play small forward roles and they will need to be at the fall of the ball to try and stop St Kilda's run out of the backline as often as possible.

One advantage for us is St Kilda isn't overly quick at moving the ball.
