With the latest number 1 picks having some rough times over the last 5 years, the best number 1 pick over the last 10 years could be a backman in Weitering.

It seems as though Goddard, Whitfield and Hodge would be quite high up on the ratings as well, players who played in the backline majority of their careers.

Every year the highest you are seeing a backman rated leading up to the draft is around 10. As a Geelong fan I am very happy with our pick of O'Sullivan and would struggle to swap him for anyone taken before as well.

Do you think we will ever see players taken at 1 again who are specialist backmen?

Yes because Key Defenders are Hard to Find and don't grow on Trees. Looking at my own Club and we've Struggled for Years when it comes to developing Them hence having to Trade in Ready Made KPDs such as Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher.

Rickman and key position backs are not the positions be spending the number 1 pick.

Hodge and Goddard could be play mid and were very much utility players.

Yes, it’s probably more for players that played some defence in their junior years.

Also Tom Stewart went in that draft around 40, I’d take him number 1.
