Had a good 2 week patch in October now just getting bad beated or can't win a flip to save myself at the crunch, been done with AK suited 3 times early at a final table (twice against 6s and 7s which have held) and have had jacks and 9s cracked by AQ also at the crunch...

A few 8ths and 9ths in bigger games paying top 6-7, 4ths and 6ths in smaller games paying top 3-4

10s and kings been absolutely trash too, but I lose with them earlier in the night to the short stacks who'll always have the old 1 over and always smash the flop...

Pretty overdue for a good one again, will change up my games next year though, will try and avoid playing too many games where the crowd just punts, probably play alot of $60-110 range games where you'd find a few proper tournament players

Yep, definitely different tonight

Not much table talk, mainly robots with earpods on, won alot of small-medium pots early on, suited connectors were very good at hitting 2 pair, correctly called a few bluffs out, but lost all the pivotal big pots. Made 2 half right but half wrong wrong calls, was outkicked with top pair first time (had a good flush draw to go with it), 2nd time called off half my stack to aggressive player who I had the wood on all night beforehand with 4s thinking I was flipping, he had 7s 😕 and I was out a few hands later when my suited ace rag only hit bottom pair against 6s. So bloody annoying 6s and 7s are cleaning me up alot this last month when I have either AK or 2 overs most of the time, yet when I have 9s or jacks, their overs always mow me down...

Apart from that, I can see where I went well and where I might need to improve, same old shit happened once the blinds got up to 3-6k where card quality dried up for 2 levels and I was out, I did bink top and bottom with A9 suited out of the SB flatting a raise out of the cutoff, checked it over to him and the early position limper hoping for a cbet, raiser obliged to the tune of 20k (about 55-60 in the middle) and I put my stack in, he must've had pockets going by the way he tanked then folded, that was the last hand I won for the night (one of the last hands of 2-4k)

NBA, is there a more frustrating sport to bet on?

The number of times I have had a multi going and it ends up being a losing bet because I miss a board, assist, point.. it's unbelievable how often that happens.

I know TAB offer a bit of coverage with their miss by 1 and you win but still.

Had a miracle run tonight

87k in my stack and rebuys have finished and blinds are 4/8k

Player ahead jams and I have AK and jam over the top

We go heads up and they turn over QQ - ok - and they hold with 80k in their stack

I have 7k left in my hands

I wait until UTG and throw in with KJ - 2 callers 21k in front of me

K on flop and I have a better kicker - 21k

BB 8k down and I have K4 - limps to me and I consider a shove but look at a flop - K4T - giggity - SB checks I shove 13k and get called by both and it checks down to a river of a 4 - boaty mcboatface - triple up

Few hands later JQclub - bet of 20 UTG3 - I consider jamming but want to see what happens '' I only just got these chips ''

Flop is 2 clubs and a Jack - UTG3 20k - call - call

Q on turn 20k by UTG3 I jam and a fold and call

Club on the river and I am back over 100k and end up making Final Table

Just seriously getting over it

Players who punt just always ******* tinarsing it all the ******* time when I have something

Legit the amount of times KK and AK and to a lesser extent 10s has let me down at the crunch is ******* unbelievable

Do not get a stinking hand to rip it with again after 20-40k and getting blinded out (1 hand I had 6s looking at 2 all ins and had to let it go, I was ahead of AJ and AK and would've flopped a set). I crawl to the final table with just over 1 big as the blinds went up to 100-200 (225k), don't get anything, shove blind UTG, folds to the BB he rolls over 45 I have 78, he hits flop, I hit the river, ok I have an orbit at least now 8 handed and hopefully can get closer to the money

Next hand, I'm in the BB 2 short stacks jam, I have them covered now, SB jams but has me covered, I have to look at what I have now as I was calling the short stacks, 63os, fold. I would've runner runnered a full house against Jacks and A7 (SB ripped it with A7), 7 handed now, fold all these trashy hands that were hitting and I would've been good until I get AJd, ship it get called by K3 in the BB, middling board with a bricked straight draw but I at least hold, have 800k now, another one goes, on the bubble now, get AKos UTG and sink it, same bloke in the BB tanks for ages (only had about 1m) and makes a **** it call with J9d and flops me dead to less than 1% T87 and 2 diamonds, I didn't even bother hanging around for the turn and river and storm out and vent in the car, haven't vented in the car since early in the year, bloody garbage copping that at 1145 after grinding the shit out of it to a position where I should have at least cashed

19 games without a cash now, I have bubbled 3 times in that period and 2 off the money twice.....couple of 9ths and 10ths in there also to cap it off

Problem I worry about is was last night a good one and I missed out and have to endure an extremely lengthy dry spell? 6th in a game paying top 5 with over 40 runners?

Like I don't want to go down and play $15-40 games where it's just punts and bingo just to break the duck (and get no value out of it), just an absolute waste of time, though regularly playing for 4 hours to just miss the money and cop bad beat after bad beat or lose pivotal flip after flip is a waste of time too.

Last season I had a 12 game cold streak between cashes but I wasn't playing as much, though this same game was a major culprit in 2 6ths, a 12th, 15th and 16th in that 12 game run (the last 6th was a min cash to break the deadlock and even then I was having 10s and kings cracked by ace rag) and nearly every week I copped bad beats at the crunch or a short stack would suck out and I couldn't gain any momentum to build a big stack (had aces cracked by QJ for a runner runner flush 1 of those nights I came 6th with the blinds at about 2-4k or 3-6k), was about 7 weeks without a cash there though I was only playing around 3 games a fortnight rather than 5 a fortnight now.

Season 1 I had 2 very bad 16 and 18 game cold runs sandwiched in between a little heater in January and a decent but heartbreaking result in a big tournament in February where I seemed to save up all the run good for the one day and was ahead every all in/call all day and my hands held/koing players all day until the final 2 tables where I had AK done by A8 to leave me crippled, found a way to recover and get to the FT bubble to only have kings cracked by ace rag and as I was in the BB that hand the BB ante leaved me with less than the UTG jammer who I had the wood on twice beforehand...

I would say last night was probably the 3rd or 4th most frustrating night of the year and yeah looking through my results this will be a pub poker career low of 20 games plus without a cash now, 18-19 has been my worst previously on 2-3 occasions.

I just figure the swings and roundabouts will come and I try and hang on as long as I can

My first mental trick is knowing I enjoy playing poker just for playing poker - and yeah this might be reflected in my ROI

The second one is to hold onto the tiger when it runs

I have cashed $1600 in the last 2 weeks . After a very light on 11 months - min cashes ie $150 etc and really not even getting close to the figures of the last 2 weeks - its a good feeling

I last rode the tiger over Xmas last year doing similar numbers

Was running pretty deep in an event at Albury when I opened A4dd in late position and got a call from the BB.

Flop is 4J4. BB leads out, I call. Turn 6. BB bets again, substantially higher and for around 4x my remaining stack. I shove & he goes into the tank and rattles off some of the hands I could have, thinking out loud. This eliminates all the hands he could have that would beat me so I know I'm good and sit there begging him mentally to call. One of the thoughts he uttered was that he had "all the fours", so my shove didn't make sense and he has a Jack. After a long think he calls and shows J9. A win here would give me a decent stack and make me chip leader on my table.

Obvious river card is obvious.

Yes agree, I generally go in bursts too, my cold streaks have historically normally been 11-15 games then I'll break the duck and usually I'll find another cash not too long afterwards

I copped one of the worst bad beats with black aces in July last year, big stack an absolute maniac, I raise UTG 35k (5-10bbs), he rips 400k in my face, I have 250 odd and have stacked about 3 short stacks already, I tell the dealer a lazy old dad shuffler don't bad beat me, maniac rolls over AKos with the ace of diamonds, he flops a 4 card royal draw and turns the nuts right away, after that particular 14 game bad stretch ended in August I cashed 5 games in a row, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and a 6th at a previously bogey venue of mine (I have cashed over 20% of the time at this venue since but the night doesn't always work for me)

I also sometimes play 2 games a night, some venues have secondaries, some games are spaced 2-3 hours apart and closeby to one another so if I bust out somewhere I can drive over to the next one and chase so i guess sometimes I play more

Yeah had a small one in October, had a better 2 week run in late June/early July, aside from that it's been a lean back half of the year, hence I feel I need to change my games I play next year to weigh to more serious and don't play as many budget games

The dirty Jack on the river in my earlier post ended up being a recurring theme throughout the series. The fact that these things happen at tourneys set me up for one of my best live reads and worst plays.

I'm in the BB, last hand before the break. UTG+2 looks down at his cards and has an immediate reaction which reads to me as if he is accepting defeat before the battle has even begun. His shoulders slumped and he reluctantly fired out a min raise. I actually said to him "That looks like a hand you've been beaten with far too many times this series." and mentally noted the most likely hand to elicit such a response was AA. I was fully prepared to lay down my hand and go to break until I see QQ. I 3-bet, he jams and I call off to the rockets and go on a long break.

Micro reads are so important

J7h in the big blind and facing a min bet

Its early its pub poker so everyone of course calls except maybe 1 or 2

Flop is T8T 1 heart and an older woman twitches and checks - I noted it and thought at least a Ten

Someone bet and we all call - I figure see a turn - turn is another heart and I lead out and she calls and everyone drops out

9 on the river is the call from the table but not a heart

I bet 6k and she raises to 16k - thats when I tanked for a longer time than necessary thinking about the tell and folded the straight face up and she obliged by showing her T8 - if it was another heart I reckon I lose a lot more

Betting patterns is what I look out for normally and try and replay the hand if I have to think about it. Sometimes position is important too, the other night I flatted an early position min raise with KQ in middle position, the BB and the maniac on the button both call, I hit a queen on the flop, AQ4 I think it was, checks around, 10 on the turn, the BB a very tricky Asian guy bets out over pot, I could call here with my pair and straight draw combo but I felt I was well behind, so we all fold, he shows T4, I put him on that or A4 as he was BB.

Though yes, the old start to reach for chips on the flop then just check move is one I'll look for alot, particularly from a fishy/nitty type. Particularly when they're subconsciously doing it, you know they've hit or have something.

Did pick up a 3rd the other weekend, but have copped some absolute shockers around that

Had queens cracked by 5s one game, lost 2/3s my stack and was out next hand as I had to rip any 2 UTG before I got blinded down. Wednesday lost a big hand, I flopped top pair and called an all in, bloke I was out of position too called the all in also, he was only sitting with middle pair and turned trips right away, I should've repopped it...then I call a big raise all in for my tourney life with AJs, up against A5d, course he hits 3 diamonds...

Bubbled again on Friday, bloke flopped a flush on me when I had 5s, left me sitting with a gut shot straight flush 1 outer that was never coming

Worst was last night, all the same player

Screenshot_20251216_145057_DuckDuckGo.jpg

Early on, I had the AJ and raised 3x, I folded the flop as loose goose barrelled into me, another bloke had the king high clubs, got there on the river

Screenshot_20251216_144851_DuckDuckGo.jpg

Last hand before the break, this bricked, I gave about 30k to him before he checked river... absolute tinass what he was hitting every flop, even a few hands before that some fish was calling him down on a TK88A board and loose Muppet had jacks and got paid river from a value bluff. Was horrendous, like how are you calling with just a 10 there?

Then the one that put me on massive tilt

Screenshot_20251216_145203_DuckDuckGo.jpg

I raise like 50k preflop blinds 5/10 middle position

He defends his limp from UTG

The flop has not been put out in full and all his chips are already in the middle, I tank for 2 minutes thinking was this premeditated, the tinass must have seen the 10 in the window and shipped it. I didn't show, turn was a king, never have I hoped like no tomorrow for a jack on the river, but yep, didn't come

I still had 35k left, I walked out, TDs trying to call me back, I'm like nope don't want it, definitely not playing at that joint for a while. The last time I forfeited a short stack after a horrendous beat or a horrendous run of consecutive bad beats was in March, had middle set of 8s mown down by J8 for a runner runner straight, he had to nail a 9 on the river and course it came, they were all calling me back to my 32k that day, nope not putting up with that shit and walked out, should've had about 300k infront of me, alas nope...

Also remembered this bricked from a few months ago against same player, just another one of these huge missed combo draws to stack me
