Pretty much. It's gauche to make those sorts of comments to a mixed audience, or people who you haven't got a read on their financial situation yet. Indicates either a lack of social awareness or a preoccupation with financial status.

Dealbreakers include smoking , illicit drugs , anything more than social drinking
Visible sleeve-style tattoos and piercings put me off
But most of all, racism/sexism /homophobia /any other form of bigotry does
I don't understand people (Aussie people from footy states ) who aren't into the footy either

What's not to understand? It just doesn't interest them.

What's worse is people that pretend to be into footy but then when you chat to them about it becomes obvious that they know jack shit about footy.

Then you're faced with the dilemma of calling them out on their bullshit and looking rude or just playing along and humouring them.

Either way you think less of them, even less of them than people who are honest and just say they don't like footy.

I drink, smoke, and have visible tattoos, and piercings. But I like to think I'm fairly prejudice free, and I do like my footy. We should have a beer.

And gay, jesus dude, you sure are one marginalised mother f*cker.

I often find the person who's superficially lacking in confidence often ends up being the most interesting person in the room.
The thing with introverted people is they spend more time actually observing and thinking about things; and less on informal chit chat. So while they may not have the skills for small talk, when you get them going then there is actually some quality there. Extroverts tend to be more used to snappier conversations where there is often a lot of competition to being heard.

Also introverts in general are like a tight poker player - they'll only play if it's worth playing.

There are all sorts of things that can make a good or bad impression, and it can be hard to judge a crowd, but there are two things that universally apply anywhere; good manners, and addressing people by their name.

Manners are not that hard but so many people of all persuasions (age, gender, wealth, etc) lack them.

And I know this thread is about bad first impressions, but using someone's name soon after being introduced is a rare thing but very effective at making an impression.

Anyone that immediately launches into a story about how many beers they drunk last night/how successful they are with women/how many goals they kicked in the 2007 D grade reserves granny gets crossed off my list. I'm happy to give everything else a free pass until I get to know the person better.

This sight has me running the other way

"Hell have no wrath like a single, stay-at-home mother"

Parents with screaming children in public places who just sit there drinking their chain cafe coffee with a false sense of accomplishment while their darling offspring run rampant... yeah chances are I won't like you,
I hate this teaching their kids to have no respect for others especially adults who are also out and about, if my kids did that would be in a lot of trouble luckily with them it usually just takes a look and a shake of the head and they know it's not on.

You do have to feel some days for the parents who just can't control their kids but at least try only to get screamed at, makes you wonder what sort of adults they will grow up to be.

Dont need to know, I just need to know how to avoid her.
You know I'm a single mother. Because the father of my child decided having a child was not for him and left. I've been a taxpayer and worked since my child was an infant. He's now a teenager. I've raised him on my own and ask for nothing from his father or any other guy for that matter. I'm a decent human being. I accept that I obviously made a poor choice but you need to remember that for many single mothers this also equates to deadbeat fathers. Look beyond your own prejudices for a moment. Not everything is always as it seems. I hope you never become a single parent. It's very hard work.
