It's gut wrenching for the Cats and their supporters to miss out on the finals on percentage. So I feel for you guys today.

Nonetheless the Cats have some great young talent and finals footy is surely just around the corner.

Bad luck to all cats fans.

Frodo,

You stole my thunder. However, I forgive you for posting it. Thanks for posting it.

Best of luck next year geelong. Unfortunately it is the same for the hawks as well.

Thanks, y'all. Much appreciated. :)

We can bring a lot of positives out of this season...

In the preseason, the so-called experts were saying things about our team were, "Dead cert wooden spooners", "bottom four, top whack", "two or three years away from reaching the finals", and so forth.

However, with the evolution of the team being marked by the learning curve increasing well on the part of our young players, we know the best is yet to come-- as long as we can learn the lessons from the end-of-season disappointments.

So therefore, being within a shout of the eight on the final day of the home-and-away premiership season can be considered a tremendous success for us-- given what the expectations for the Cats were, as held by those outside the club...

Cheers,
William

So close and yet so far!! :(

We will certainly take many positives from this season, but at this time I am absolutely shattered as I'm sure are the players who worked so hard to get this far and also other Geelong supporters and club officials who support the team no matter what.

What's needed now is great character and resolve from the Geelong Football Club to come out and improve that bit more in 2003 and make sure we play a big part in the September action.

Thanks to the players for giving it their best shot this season. We achieved a hell of a lot with our young list and lets hope we can really build on this to make the Geelong Football Club a force in the AFL competition for many years to come.

Mad Monday here we come!! :(

Go Cats!!

Well said Frodo.I actually enjoyed watching WC today. They played an exciting brand of footy & too see a few young players like Kerr,Haines & McDougall play well, certainly must make West Coasts future look good, unlike your opponents who will need to off load the dead wood [especially #4] if they want to win a final this year.

Yep bad luck Geelong - you must really hate us now :D

As for David Haynes, he's from the Geelong Falcons and is possible trade bait for us. How about Joel Corey for David Haynes?

Yeah, sorry guys.

If I'd had the power to choose which team we knocked out of the 8, Geelong would be the bottom of the list.

Ditto... I have to say that for most of this year I've been pretty impressed by the high decency quotient amongst geelong fans (1992, 1994... I didn't hate you then, honest :) :))
Geelong are a young side on the up and up, and I have a strong suspicion that several of the borderline 8 sides, most notably Geelong and West Coast, will be giving the top 4 a fair shake over the next few years.

Do you watch football?

We are rebuilding, and have made the finals. One of those concepts is beyond the Cats, and to combine both would be laughable.

They can't resist.:D

If it was a ***stir, it was very subtle, and for that I give you credit.

Just sick of this type of attitiude. The view that we have no good young players is one made by those who either don't know anything about footy, or choose not to actually watch the game, and follow popular and wrong opinion.

Perhaps you should read the crap North supporters give Geelong.

If I am going to give Geelong crap, I will log onto your board and happily do it in full view. You took a dig, in an unrelated thread, and displayed for all to see that large chip on your shoulder.

You wish you supported North.

No kidding, Jubbers. Do North fans even know about the concept of being happy? They'd rather whinge than celebrate.

More on the topic later... they've hijacked enough in the last two days.

Haven't been able to get on BigFooty for a couple of days now, but got on today:D:D

So, although this has been said, I'd like to say it again from me, a passionate Cats fan!

On Friday night, we had the best chance to make the eight. And making the eight would've given the young guys the best possible experiece for future finals and big games.

But never mind. We have done so well this year to make it so close to the finals. We were predicted to make the bottom 2 at the start of the year (with the Eagles), and we have shown we were no easy beats during the year.

So close, yet so far. But we havn't gone down in a bad way. We have had a great year!!

I have a good feeling about next year, and I reckon we can make the top 4, and give the flag a real shake, whether we win it or not.

We have gained respect this year, and that's what we were out to do. We played the young guys, and that worked. The future is very bright!!

At least we still have the VFL team in the finals!!:D:D

Go Cats!!:)

Well said! The future is very bright, and a lot can be built upon.

I think that our front office needs to make just a few changes to the squad (trading Ronnie Burns, perhaps?) to keep that competitive edge and get the side over the hump.

And yes, ninth place is indeed a success-- even in a year where so many people expected a lot worse from our lot...

Cheers,
William

Ronnie should be traded, but whether we will is another story. We could trade him for a Harvey of the Roos (that would be a good pick up), or a similar player like that. But then Ronnie will turn it on wherever he goes, and play really attacking footy, we have missed from him this year. Burns may not be picked up, because maybe he's too old to be drafted...maybe, maybe not. But yes, that is an option we should look at.

Go Cats!!:)

I'd sorta like Mitch White back at west coast just to give him a retirement send off to be proud of. He was a champion for us and deserved better than KJ gave him.

ps I can't see how the Kangaroos are rebuilding. It seems that their top players are all over the hill a tad.

Who would the Eagles give for him do you think if he was to be traded back to the Eagles??? But yes, he has been a champion at the West Coast, but I'm sure Geelong will give him a good send off when he does retire... Just like for Buddha, Bluey and Snelly etc.

Go Cats!!:)

Slight difference between re-building and re-built wouldn't you say?

We had a forward line with an average age of 20 vs West Coast, and kicked 18 goals. I am more than happy with where we are going, and making the finals is a great effort IMO.

Well said, NorthBhoy. Very profound difference...

All I can say in all seriousness is that we are getting there. Ninth spot, and being in the top eight until the last day of the regular season, beats the heck out of 14th or 15th, where we finished last season.

What a lot of people have to bear in mind is that this is Year Three of the Mark Thompson regime at Geelong, and only Year One In Earnest of the youth movement. The learning curve this year accelerated quickly around the middle of the campaign, and only good things in the future can come from this year's winning and losing experiences alike...

After all, Rome was not built in a day, either.

Cheers,
William

I just hope that we can still get something of value for him. Hopefully, his up-and-down campaign, which had more downs than ups, certainly, hasn't turned off too many teams...

William
