Went looking for this page in the Players advocate to post his video from the weekend. Looks like someone beat me to it. Hopefully he isn't too far away. Videos on the site of a player seems to mena they aren't far away from selection. Only problem is players like Gears play the same position... Time will tell.

Gears is 29 even without injury likely won't play past 2020. Bailey also possesses superior foot skills allowing him to cover injuries to other defenders but if he wants to secure a permanent best 22 spot from someone else he can improve his fitness, speed and attack.

Big chance for Special Fried to get a promotion over the next few weeks . Can't wait to see him play in the seniors.
Pretty sure he injured his leg, so unless there's been some kind of remarkable recovery I'd say that's unlikely.

Bailey needs a big preseason if he is to jump ahead of other players in the queue for a spot in the back line . He’s got the ability but he needs to take the next step in his career.

Who's spot do we see Bailey taking to solidify himself in the best 22?

Probably most similar to Gears? But the captain has probably 5 years left and is unlikely to be dropped in that time.

Maybe Webster's spot?

Hopefully he can keep up his good form in the VFL and really put pressure on the guys above him. Seems to be a good size now and would want to press for 5-10 games this year.

Gears seems the obvious one, especially since Rice doesn't have a great tank (so is probably best suited for the time being at least to the back pocket type role) but as you say that spot might not open up for years, so it's hard to see too many openings.

I reckon he's one to watch and has what it takes, but so does White, and they may look to start Clark and Coffield back there, and then there's Paton as well now, plus D-Mac, so there's a big squeeze and no obvious spots available.

He may need to be very patient. Sounds like he's knuckled down now though, which will give him a better shot at it. Didn't look out of place in that JLT game he played last year and has the kicking skills we could really do with back there.

Bailey played for Sandy in a practice match and continued his good form carrying on from last year . He is making it hard for the selectors as eventually they are going to have to play him in the ones if he continues with this form.

Young defender Bailey Rice has strung together two dominant performances for Sandringham in the VFL, and he could be in line to make his long-awaited senior debut this weekend.

Taken via the father-son rule with pick No. 49 in the 2015 National Draft, the 21-year-old amassed 30 possessions and showed exemplary ball use.

Bailey Rice will finally fulfil his aspirations to play senior football when he dons the red, white and black his father Dean wore nearly 25 years ago.

Taken under the father-son rule at pick No. 49 at the 2015 National Draft, Rice has been forced to wait patiently and ply his trade at VFL level.

2018 has seen the solidly-built 21-year-old take his game to a new level, and two consecutive best-on-ground performances for the Zebras has earned him his long-awaited spot in the senior side.

His father, Dean Rice, played 116 games on the wing for the Saints from 1987-1993 before moving to Carlton, where he won a premiership and played as a defender until 2001.

Alan Richardson praised the young defender’s resilience and work ethic, encouraging Rice to draw confidence from Ed Phillips’ strong debut in Perth following good VFL form.

“You’ve been really strong now for a good period of time, and from our perspective, you’re ready to go,” the senior coach said.

Richardson also commended Rice on his preparation and commitment to training, imploring the young defender to bring his trademark aggression at the contest into Saturday night’s pivotal home clash.

“I reckon your teammates would be really pleased that you’re in for many reasons,” the senior coach said.

“The main reason would be because of how tough you are, and how consistent you are in the contest. You very rarely get beaten, and you stay composed.”

A former teammate of his father at Carlton, Sandringham Head Coach Aaron Hamill has also been impressed with Rice’s form for the Zebras in 2018.

“Bailey shows really good defensive nouse – when to support his teammates and when to defend his man – and his ball use and decision-making has been excellent,” Hamill told saints.com.au.

Rice becomes the 1593rd player to represent St Kilda at senior level and is also the first father-son selection to play senior football since Chad Davis in 2002.

Bailey will today become only the second father-son Saints player ever.

According to Luke Holmesby ...

"David Sierakowski, son of 1966 premiership player Brian played 93 games for the club before he was traded to West Coast. Other players such as Ben Stewart (son of Ian) and Stuart Annand (son of Bud) both spent time on the club’s list but never played senior games."

That's because a disproportionate number of our players are Abu El Banat

Bailey played well for the saints against the Tigers . He looks calm and collective. Glad he has finally been given a chance . Looks good for the future.

Bailey was a late inclusion for the Carlton game and I was very impressed with how he played especially early on when the game was in the balance. He ended up with 18 disposals. Hopefully he will hold his place next week.
