I'm not usually one to pessimistic and slam my footy club, but the fact of the matter is i think a coaching change is much needed.

2011 was the first year in a while that this team actually had some expectations of the making the finals. Been a very disappointing 9 games so far despite some positives including Jack Watt's recent form, Michael Evans Debut and certain players such as Stefan Martin and Jordan Gysberts affirming that they are going to be 150-200 game players for the club.

However, The season has been a complete disappointment. I dont like people placing a major emphasis on significant injuries to grimes, jamar, tapscott, scully, trengove (suspension), bail and garland.

Because the fact is we were playing very poorly prior to these injuries.. Having only beaten bottom teams such as the crows, suns and the lions.

Its definitely time for a new coach, Bailey doesnt seem to be the right fit for this club with his unenthusiastic demeanor and questionable game plan. Not to mention some dissapointing recruiting over the years with emphasis on the selections of Cale Morton inparticular.

I cant back up his decisions over the years to reward players such as Michael Newton by giving them games that are undeserved. It is time now to blood the youngsters such as Howe, Cook, Lawrence etc as Newton and Bate do not deserve senior games as they are simply not up to it.

Id like to see the club go after a well experienced coach with finals experience, Bailey simply does not have the support of the players or the fans. He has shown nothing to indicate he can lead this team for a decade or so.

Time to go after Roos, Malthouse, Mathews etc

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

Tbh I can't see why the board can justify re-signing him. He's been unlucky with injuries but the club is in a very fragile position and signing Bailey would be an unnecessary risk.

Bailey is gone.

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

He seems to have employed a game plan from 5 years ago. Hopefully, when the bodies mature; that kind of game plan will be back in.

At least i deseperately hope thats the plan

That's one of the few positives that will come out of this year; Bailey hopefully getting sacked. Nothing personal, but I can't ever see him leading us to a flag, so we need to move him on.

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

How this guy still had a job after the west coast game I have no idea, we have 3 bad games since then, north game was pathetic, a very average St kilda team we were pretty disappointing, and now this woeful game against Carlton, I can't see any reason why he should be coaching us next week, he has won 18 games in 3 and a half seasons, are we going to put up with this s*** all year, stand up jym and swing the f****** axe now

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

He seems like too much of a nice guy too me. So many of our collective and individual performances have just been completely unacceptable this year, but there is Bails on the boundary giving them a tap on the bum to reward their 'effort'. As coach you don't have to be liked, you have to be respected. It is not about being the player's mate, it is about getting the best result for the football club. I am hugely concerned about how fragile our playing group appear to be, and how inconsistent our effort is from week to week. Needs to discover his mongrel, and in the process the mongrel of the players or he is finished as a senior coach.

It's interesting that what made him a good assistant coach at Port is probably what makes him not cut it as a senior coach. I think was probably a supportive and encouraging presence under the guidance of a senior coach. But he isn't a leader, and he doesn't do tactics. I expect a caretaker coach by round 16 if we have 2 more thrashings in that time.

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

Message to Todd Viney :

TAKE OVER AS COACH NOW!

You mentioned at the start of the year that Bailey didn't have much of a game plan, so you saw a problem there and then but you allowed him to continue on with this embarrassing style of play.

Stand up and save the club from the worst coach of all time. Do you really want your kid to play in a rabble like this?

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

Dean has 2 games left then Viney will step in after QB. A private meeting only just finished at the MFC. It's done.

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

What are your sources Trent? Who was in this private meeting?

Just telling you what I know. That is all that needs to be said. From what I was told, it was a general decision that will begin after the Qb and before our next bye. I do know that the meeting was not planned before the match but was organized after the game.

No, more needs to be said. Otherwise it's just a rumour.

Besides, that's not how they announce the end of a coaching tenure. If Melbourne came out and belted Essendon and beat Collingwood by a point on QB, it would look crazy to then announce Bailey's sacking. What would be the point of keeping it secret? Since you seem to think you have a real source, are they planning on announcing this soon?

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

Well tonight the MFC embarrassed itself on Friday night footy. It was an ugly game to watch, don't think we will have won too many new fans. Yes, I know we are carrying a long list of injuries but Bailey just conceeded the game from the start.

Let's see what we can dish up next week. At least we will have Scully and Trengove back which means we can get rid of Spud Bate and Spud Morton, also drop Spud Newton for Gawn hopefully.

Re: Bailey's Job Security.

2 weeks is too late, season would be over, we can beat Essendon just not under Bailey

I'm not going to convince you to believe me, I couldn't care less. I had a quick chat on the phone and there the details I got. Think of it as a rumor if that makes you feel more comfortable.

So when you said, "that's all that needs to be said", you are saying that's all you actually know? You could have just said it that way, you know. No need to act all important by implying you have the inside scoop but you have to protect your sources. It doesn't make me "more comfortable" to think of it as a rumour. I'll be pleased if it is true.

Just be a bit more open - we are all supporters of the same club. You could have just said enough to make it sound factual, without divulging any names. Of course people will ask you to back it up if you are deliberately mysterious.

Hardly mysterious, just a 1am phone call. It was brief a chat and what I've said earlier in the thread sums up what the situation is. Sorry I can't add anything else, o don't have anymore details.

Fair enough, we know what you know.

I hope it is true, I just find it to be an odd way to handle the sacking. If it is a done deal, the administration will actually be hoping that we don't play too well before Bailey leaves. That's a weird situation to be in. Less risky to just sack him immediately.

If the club has signed his death warrant, then there is no point in letting him coach on. In fact it’s counter productive as it gives us 2 less weeks to evaluate the performance of the stand in coach.
