Do you think Lyon thinks he is expendable?
 
You gotta think he's a key player for us, one of the best taggers in the AFL. He may be just holding off until the dust settles with the Footy First crew - maybe he thinks he can get a better deal when Sheldon's gone... given how Sheldon handled his tribunal case, I wouldn't be surprised.

Why would he waste his time with Carlton? If he wants to ever win a flag, he's not going to go there.

I hate to tell you this, Carlton are going to finish higher than us next year.

Baker should be traded provided we can get value for him. There are things we need more than a tagger, as good as he is, such as a pacey midfielder. I would probably take Kade Simpson for Baker. Attard can do a job for us next year and we need to fill the gap of quick mids at our club. Therefore, Baker is expendable but only for the right price.

Wow, you're starting to get more positive. Last time I looked, you were saying we were going to finish 12-16th, now it's 10-14th. By January you'll be expecting them to finish top 2...
 
Perhaps the SAINTS are hanging out to use BAKE's in a three way trade to pick up WOODS or SHERMAN from Brisbane.

Obviously Carlton have offered BAKE's mega bucks and have probably asked him to go into the Pre-Season draft (hopefully this doesn't happen).

Depending on what Carlton have left over after the Judd trade might affect what we can attract for BAKE's. It worries me either way as BAKE's is the sort of player we really cant afford to lose.
 
surely bakes wouldn't leave us? i always thought he'd be loyal to our cause for all eternity? unlike one nexus_helen...
i hope he hangs around

Simpson for Baker. A little ambitious with that one. Although you might rate him internally, most other clubs wouldn't rate him at all. Anyone can be a tagger. Look at how long Godfrey survived for...

I agree that Simpson for Baker may be a little bit too much, but i have no doubt that other clubs do not underrate Baker at all. Godfrey was not in the same league as Baker. If any trade was to occur, Carlton would still have to offer up a player of very decent value that would fit into St.Kilda's starting 22.

Imo, there's too much argy bargy going on with Judd anyway for them to sort out any type of deal with St.Kilda regarding Baker. As much as i'd have to have a tagger of his quality, imo he'll more than likely stay at the Saints.

Are you inferring that we were wrong to offer him a three year deal?

It's hardly going to be a multi million dollar deal. It's just a reward for a player who has been a fantastic servant and when he returns will play a crucial role for us next season.

I think we've done well to keep our list together. I guess the only negative is that with so many retirements we'll probably have to carry a couple of players who would ordinarily have been delisted. They now have a great opportunity.

Completely agree, if we can secure a decent pacy midfielder, that would serve us better IMO.

Other football teams would rate him. Fans might not.

Saints might not get anything in return because if he wants to leave he can go into the pre-season draft.

Haven't we given Maguire and the other good 24 years olds 2 year deals? I think 2 was more reasonable, but I suppose Bakes has been fairly durable.

I think so but often you find younger players are only looking for 2 year deals. Apparently X was only looking at getting a 1 year deal and extending it midway through next season.

I can't see the problem offering Bakes a 3 year deal. He's clearly not going to be on huge money but he's definitely in our best 22. I'm happy to see him rewarded with a deal that offers him the security that I reckon he's entitled too.

I agree. Carlton just wanted him on their list as he is the only one wh can beat a fully fit Judd...
