North are definitely capable on any given day. I think Darley on a day out can challenge also. East i think may fall short of the two.Darley are in better form, and I think should win. Will be interesting to see if East, Darley or Nth City can mount a challenge against either Sunbury or Redan.

@ Sebastapol and Ballarat Football League regarding the Under 18s.
If you are happy advancing to a semi final in that way good luck to you all.
just hope Sunbury seniors can now win it and stick it fair square up the league@ Sebastapol and Ballarat Football League regarding the Under 18s.

If you do the wrong thing you shouldn't be punished?

Everybody knows that all players must qualify for the finals. If you play an unqualified player you will be disqualified. I believe the same thing happen to North City u18 last year or 2011 and the same penalty applied.
Are you serious?? So it's OK that all of the Ballarat teams with their juniors playing in the BFL can play any of their under 16's without having to qualify them, but because Sunbury's juniors play in a different league this is not permitted (By the way, the BFL actually ran the RDFL in 2012). It's not as if Sunbury played an overqualified player, they played a 15 year old kid because one of their Cannons players got called up to play finals for the TAC cup at the last minute. This warranted a fine at best, not getting kicked out of the finals. This stinks of one rule for the Ballarat teams & another rule for everyone else. The Sebastopol committee should be ashamed of themselves for not asking for a fine only & the BFL should have told them that. But that pretty much sums up the club. I would be embarrassed to be associated with any club that does this. At least Sunbury didn't drop their under 18 players back from their senior team. Have a look at some of the Sebastopol players that they played funny buggers with playing under 18's & seniors on the same day. We all know how this works guys!!!!!!

I completely agree. Darley were looking like being short of players on Sunday due to injuries and reserves players having played the day before. Darren Leonard didn't come up from a corky and they had to play Billy Meyers from the under 16's who hadn't played a game all year. If this was Sunbury they would of had to play with one short on the bench. Absolute disgrace that this can happen, it is not like the kid was unregistered or unwelcome at his home club. As was mentioned earlier he plays in a league that is administered by the BFL. This is an absolute disgrace and just another nail in an already fractured relationship between East and West.
Sunbury should be having a good hard look at the EDFL.

Don't know about his case specifically, but there is every chance Sebas didn't complain and that the league have acted without consulting both clubs.
I really feel for Sunbury and especially their players and 'in the spirit of the game' they should have been awarded the victory, however they should know their own rules as well and double check who they put on the field. At this time of year lee way cannot be given for negligence. The fact of who the player is, and who he replaced needs to be irrelevant so that you don't set a precedent down the track that can be manipulated.
As for the rule that made him ineligible, that perhaps needs to be looked at for next year so that their is a bit of equality for the eastern clubs in the future.
Just my two cents, good luck to Sunbury 1's in the finals!
I'm not arguing the fact there should be a rule in place to let Sunbury have access to junior players if the other clubs do, just that at the moment that rule isn't in place. Without a doubt the rule should be fixed up next year to make it more fair, HOWEVER, you can't bring a rule in mid-finals series. That's all I'm saying. So if Sebas lost an under 18 kid to the Rebels at the last minute and brought in a 15 year old that had not played 1 game for the uner 18's team then this is fine. But Sunbury did it and the game which they won was taken off them??? Come on this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
There was no advantage to playing a 15 year old. This league will be decimated in 5 years time. Then Sebas can make finals in every grade as there will only be 6 crappy ballarat sides left.

That' s VCFL policy unfortunately, they seem to slap 'loss of match points' on everything and anything that results in those infringements without consulting the clubs. It happened to 2 or three sides in our league a couple years back (albeit junior teams).Rod Ward from Ballarat Football League and Brett Anderson from the VCFL had other alternatives including fining Sunbury (for an acknowleged inadvertant error) that they could have pursued. Rather than denying 22 boys the opporutunity to finish their junior football careers on the football field rather than during a "conference call" which they would call an investigation.![]()

Are any teams actually allowed to play a kid that hasn't played three games at that level anyway?? That would seem odd in any competition of any age group regardless of injuries.
So the BFL could bring in rules at the start of the year that allow Ballarat teams to throw the ball, tackle high, trip players, a goal is worth 20 points. Now the Eastern bloc teams have to play within the current rules and scoring system.
Now your just being stupid.
I agree the rule needs to be fixed up, but this the first time its happened in however many years so its hardly a major issue. Fix it up for next year, but as it stands Sunbury broke the rules (by accident) as they were issued at the start of the season.
Having one rule for one team and another rule for a different team is stupid.
Sunbury have to go the EDFL, the Melton teams are also looking at the EDFL or the WRFL.
