There is something that keeps on coming up that I just don't get.

Why do people continually jump off the Peverill bandwagon? Not just in this thread but everywhere, you read Peverill is past his used-by-date.

Let's have a quick look at his 2007.

Round 1: Very good against Adelaide in Essendon's five-goal win. Third-best player.

Round 3: In the best players in Essendon's disappointing loss to the Blues.

Round 4: Clearly best-on-ground in Essendon's 31-point victory over St Kilda.

Round 6: Among the best players' list against Hawthorn.

Round 7: Again among the best, this time against the 'Roos.

Round 8: In the best - second best-on in fact - in the thrilling one-point win over West Coast.

Round 12: Average game, but still manages two goals against Port.

Round 15: Third best-on against the Dogs.

Round 16: Third best-on again, this time against Collingwood.

Round 17: Yet again is the third best player on the ground, this time against Adelaide.

Round 22: Again figures among the best players.

Now surely some of the other guys were nowhere near as effective as Pev?

The only reason that Peverill's name is mentioned in the best players at all is purely because of his disposal count, but what the anylyst doesn't take into account is his atrocious disposal.....one of the worst users of the ball at Essendon in fact.

BTW: ON: Jetta, Pears, Houli, Ryder, Dempsey, Myers, Lovett, Gumbleton.

OFF: NLM, Peverill, JJ.

couldnt have said it better myself...
knights is focusing on skills and sees that as an area which we need great improvement, im sorry to say but pev's skills are never going to improve, he has a weird hold on the ball and a weird kicking action... if knights wants skills improved then pev must go... JJ's are only slightly better himself but we are going to need a tough body in the midfeild,

jobe is probably the only one who will stay in the team that has poor skills, and that he because he is a clearence machine

ON

Dempsey: id love to see him get a lot of game time provided he stays fit
Nash: Liked what i saw of him last year (doesnt seem theres a lot of people on here backing him too much though)
Ryder: Got on board long ago, love this guy. Superstar in the making.

OFF

Johns: Had big hopes for him, maybe it was just the hair

I'll third that. Although I don't agree that he can't improve. If the skills shortage can only be addressed by replacing those with bad skills, then we have serious problems - i.e. replacing the entire list. I can only hope that there is indeed an issue with our preparation in that area, and that MK is fixing this. Looking forward to 25+ high quality disposals from pevs each week.

My bandwagons are a bit more intangable ...
ON: An across the board skills improvement.
The much alluded to "running game".

OFF: Creaming over how good our list is, before it has achieved ANYTHING. Reminds me of Richmond supporters talking about Richo - he's soooo athletic, he's soooo tall and muscley. People, it's time to start cracking skulls.

Gumbleton has been my bloke for a while. Also like Ryder, Jetta and Dempsey for our future and look forward to seeing these guys develop. Really liked what Winderlich can do, and he looks in top shape, along with Myers I see these two as future gun midfielders for us.

Dunno if its legal but I'm also on the 23 and younger bandwagon, yes every player :p Heres why..

B: Daniher Pears Slattery
HB: Hislop Ryder Winderlich
C: Dempsey Stanton Nash
HF: Reimers Gumbleton Jetta
F: Davey Neagle Watson
R: Laycock Myers Monfries
I: Bellchambers Houli Williams Hocking

Been on Laycock for ages said he would be our number 1 ruckmen by round 11 last year, wasn't quiet right but i don't think i was far off. Iam on his bandwagon in an even bigger way this year providing he is injury free he will go close to AA. People will laugh at that but we shall see next year.

Also winders to prove how good he is to others apart from dons supporters and andrew welsh to play very very good footy next year, down forward on the running defender.

Off mcphee seriously hope he proves me wrong but he just hasn't been able to put good games in a row, he plays well one week and shocking the next.

I agree. Laycock to do a Hamish Macintosh.

ON: JETTA, LAYCOCK, MCPHEE, RYDER, DEMPSEY, HOCKING, PEARS, MONFRIES, JOBE, HOULI and NLM! (I could easily throw in several more too!)

OFF: DYSON (My thoughts are well documented, but would be delighted to be proven wrong). HILLE. Oh yeah... and Hardwick, Mark Williams & Bomber Thompson. ;)

UNDECIDED: KNIGHTS. Gotta say, I'm coming around, as much as one can without any matches being played. Dyson re-signing the only mistake he's made so far.... albeit a big one, IMO!
SLATTERY - Needs to be able to threaten to do his own damage, not just sniff a$$!

I think we did really well in the Drafts and I'm optimistic for a spirited, disciplined, structured and competitive '08. Bring it on!!! :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

On Andrew Lovett, David Hille and Jay Nash- if these 3 have big years they will fill worrying gaps and we will be more competitive than a lot of people think.
Off- I respect all AFL players and especially Bombers but I hope Peverill spend all year in the twos teaching the young players what it takes to make it. I would also like Andrew Lee, Coutney Johns and Sam Lonergan to do something or their journey with the Bombers will end at the end of 08.

On a side note JJ has been too good to jump off. If he is able to get back to his best well and good. He has done enough to deserve a year to try.

While I think most would agree - we don't know yet what will happen with Dyson - Perhpas Knights will be the man to turn him into an AFL footballer.

But if Dyson does nothing this year - then it will be a bad mistake given Johno's departure.

I disagree that it would be a bad mistake if Dyson does nothing given Johnson's departure.

Mark Johnson has one year of football left in my opinion. The game seemed to go past him last season and it's not like he had a lot of excuses.

In releasing Johnson we gave up the opportunity to have a 30 year old running around playing average football. In Dyson we might have a player for the next 5-10 years if he can get his potenital together.

If Dyson does nothing this year, the only thing we've given up is an extra pick in next year's draft, an extra pick in this year's draft or some salary cap room. The first of those options could potentially be a loss, but I don't think we stand to massively lose out on the gamble and there's a possibility that we could really win out.

Anyway, what's done is done, and it's time to get behind him. According to Knights and O'Donnell, he's doing everything he can to play to the best of his ability next season, and we can't ask for anything more than that.
