Does anyone know how many banked compo picks there will be after this years draft?

There is Geelong's 1st rounder, but I can't remember how many others have been banked and not activated (obviously this number can increase if GWS takes any more uncontracted players).

West Coast has a 3rd round compo pick tied to Collingwood's finising position (originally the Josh Fraser pick).

GWS and GC have the rest. There is an Ablett mid-1st-round pick, there is a Rhys Palmer end-of-first-round pick and there is a Nathan Bock end-of-first round pick.

Apparently GWS and GC have swapped some of these this week so I am not sure who has which ones now.

As far as I know, these are the only picks yet to be activated, apart from the Ablett first-round-pick which Geelong still holds.

What exactly is the line of thinking in doing this? I don't quite understand. They're both at the end of the first round and not tied to a finishing place.

Gives an extra year on activating the pick.

Gold Coast recruited compensation picks expire 2014
GWS ones expire 2015.

So its all purely list management and being able to retain high draft picks 2-3 years down the track in a reducing list

The Bock one expires in 2014, Palmer's in 2015, so Palmer's is worth slightly more. Doubly so to the clubs in question, given how they're spacing out their recruitment via these compensation picks.

The Bock one must be used by 2014, while the Davis must be used by 2015. Just an extra year before it must be activated.

So now
- the Giants have a mid-first-round pick plus an end-of-1st round pick.
- The Suns have a 1st round pick after Geelongs pick and an end-of-1st-round compo pick.

More pain yet to come for the other 16 clubs.
