Sign Barry Hall for another season. O'Loughlin will retire at end of 2009 and we need a experianced forward for the 2010 season. Hall will teach Johnston the ropes which will help Johnston when he has to take over as the number 1 forward in the 2011 season.

Well, MOL's raised the possibility of going one more...

But I think of the two Hall looks easily the more serviceable and likely to stay on, and I'd like to see him remain in the red and white.

If his heart is in it then why not give him an extra year. But to judge that we have to wait until around the end of the season, so thats when we have to enter talks with him. Not now in May.

Plus if he wants an extra year he must be willing to take a paycut so we can move savings from larger contracts moving off the list due to retirements to re-signing our younger stars, so they are locked in during the entry of the Gold Coast and Western Sydney. Plus for the next few years the club would want to be sitting under 100% of the salary cap rather than right on the limit so we have the flexabilty come trade and draft time.

This is the time to kill a few birds with one stone due to retirements (salary cap flexability, younger list and build up depth in all positions). Keeping Hall won't hurt us unless he is on the same salary and he doesn't play due to injuries and losing the passion to play.

But no new contracts to Jared Crouch or Leo Barry (with Nic Fosdike and Tadhg Kennelly's contracts to come off the list at seasons end). We could clear up to $1,000,000 with those four contracts and with half of Jude Bolton and Adam Goodes contracts going onto the veterans list and a pay cut to Barry Hall.

Nice.

Okay guys im on the comp if anyone wants the link tell me because I'm sooooooooooo not bothered to find it.

He'll still make a million out of Australian boxing even if he waits another 5yrs!

I say yay. We're better off having him in the team than out, unless we're in a Collingwood situation where Rocca doesn't really fit in anymore and can't do as much.

He'll take the best defenders off the likes of Grundy and White who really need a confidence boost, handing over the mantle to them when they're ready, in turn allowing the next gen forwards to come into the forward line.

:thumbsu: agreed with every comment

not sure the reliability of this info, but during the break or whatever of yesterdays game, they stated the upcoming draft was particularly weak

so i guess it would be acceptable if we don't just bottom out our entire senior citizens in one swoop

off topic a bit, but theres a small article that collingwoods footy chief Geoff Walsh says Heath Shaw is due to sign a 3yr deal this week, but the bit I found funny was that he 'laughed' off rumours that Shaw was keen to join his bro in Sydney! (haha, grim??)

I was just thinking the other day that what the Swans need most is another halfback :D

haha yeh not going to happen heath is hotter then his bro.

Anyways robbie it was hall keen on negotiating the contract and from memory he says his body feels great and he still wants to play professional footy.

I also think if MOL plays well their is no reason why for him to retire. He has previously stated he will step down to make way for the youngens but right now we need both mol and baz to attract the best defenders so Johnstone and maybe white can learn the game without top defenders

If he's willing, yeah sure. I know he's not the dominant player he was a few years back, but with his physical presence and experience he'd be a big asset in a young team. Even if he becomes less mobile, he'd still be valuable playing out of the square - especially if we (god forbid) can play quickly through the corridor and isolate him one on one.

Thats always annoyed me actually. The Swans have in my opinin the best 1 on 1 player in the league (Hall) but instead of using that to our advantage we play so slowly that by the time the ball get to our forward line Hall has 2 or 3 defenders on him.

I wanted to watch him play against a 'weaker' defence in Richmond before I replyed to this.

Keep Micky O for another year if at all.
Once again Bazza's lack of discipline on the field, indirectly nearly cost us the game.

It was at the very moment we were about 27 points up with a boundary throw in at forward pocket that Bazza decided to get in his opponents face. As usual, the umps got sucked in & the free kick goes to Richmond & a goal comes of it.

The momentum swung from that moment on. Whether you want to blame Bazz or not, unfortunately that was the moment the Tigers got a sniff.

I don't think Roos was too happy with it either when questioned about it after the match.

You couldn't have two acts on the field further apart from players.
On one hand we have Bazza waving his arms around in the forward line demanding the ball. Even when he is not the best option, cracking it at the youngsters when they don't use him.
On the other hand you have Mattner, Craig Bolton, Jude Bolton & Kirky trying to encourage ALL team mates with inspirational acts.

Something that just doesn't sit comfortably with me as a supporter.
No good having talent & aggression if you don't know how to use it anymore. Where is the Bazza that sacrificed his own game for the good of the team ala in 2005 against the Hawks at the MCG when he UNSELFISHLY kept giving goals away to other players when he could easily have topped the goal kicking for the year!
That's the Bazza I would like to remember when he is done & dusted.

Hope he proves me wrong but he looks close to lashing at at any moment.

Just my thoughts!

Cheers!

Do you forget about how Hall had aifficult shot on goal and he passed it off the Meredith. That was a very unselfish act.

Also another reason i love all in the forward line was when he went for a contested mark 60 metres out, he missed the mark but the ball dropped, Thornton picked it up and kicked it to Jack was was 30 metres out right in front. Even when Hall isnt taking marks he is creating opportunities for the other players.

Hall and O'Loughlin made our forward line a million times better than last week as they provided targets for our midfielders.

I appreciate this view...........................but I don't agree!

We kicked 14 goals 10 against the young & inexperienced backline of the Tigers....................15th......................at our 'fortress' the SCG.

5 goals 6 of these were kicked in the 1st Q. No goals were from Bazza!

The question asked in the thread is............"Barry Hall Contract?"

I say, for the money he will want in order to play on, he won't be worth the risk. He is 32 & showing signs of wear & tear both physically & mentally & whilst he is there, the youngsters won't learn.

How many of you think that Bazza would have made a difference against Freo last week?

Micky O yes! Bazza no!
He has a long way to go to prove me wrong though!
But I ask you this! Why didn't the people in the know give him an extra year last year when he was asking for it???
Because they know we've seen the best of Bazza! Already he has missed 2 games out of a possible 6. Last year he played around 14 of a possible 24 games, thanks to the other guys playing good footy to make the finals for him to get an extra 2 games.

It won't get better.

Please prove me wrong Bazza!

I think Halls presence alone is worth another year, he takes the oppositions best backman, ALWAYS makes a contest and brings the kids into the game, the 'kids' also walk a foot taller with him around, yes he did look frustrated, so would I be with some of the delivery, but his 'frustration' comes from passion, he wears his heart on his sleeve, sure he would be expected to play better against weaker opposition as in Richmond, but we should have won that game by 20 goals, not his fault!
I also believe he plays better against quality teams, he always seems to find something, also I think hes still carrying a niggle and he hasent found his 'rythem' just yet, I ask you this Tedeski, if Hall kicked 6 yesterday, would you be of the same view?

BBBH missed a few he would when he's in practice /top form would have slotted

He was good early but stopped presenting/ leading later in game

This may be niggle or not yet 100% fit or it seemed to me he was told to stay in 50m arc to give Grundy a go at CHF? ( Grundy did poorly IMHO as Bowden was highest possession getter, Reg lacks confidence to demand the ball) But the delivery was slow & indirect to all later as well:o

BBBH definitely adds something valuable to the current team :thumbsu: BUT given shenanagans of last year he will have to come home with a "wet sail" & be in good form at round 18-22, be playing a team oriented game for Sydney to consider re-signing....... at seasons end!!!!.

Yeah Corpy, youre points clear and I agree, this topic should be discussed at seasons end...

I guess had he kicked six, he wouldn't have been ranting & raving because he would have been concentrating on the team things & then yes, I would have been happy. This would then need to be continued every game this year, (the non ranting & raving) & then yes, a new contract would be deserved!

But.......................he didn't kick 6 goals, nor do I actually think he needs to but he does need to show some patience with the young guys & he also needs to stop giving away cheap & foolish free kicks that cost the team. You know! The hands in the back! The one that you haven't been able to do for 3 years now. As a 'topline' forward, it is one's job to read the rule book, go to training & practice how to compete in a marking contest without being penalised time & time again for the same thing that other team's forwards learnt how to deal with 2 years ago.
Unfortunately Bazza thinks that eventually, the umpires will see things the way he sees them.

It's a different game for forwards as it was 2 or 3 years ago & you either get smart & learn to cope with the new rules or move over & let the young kids have a crack at it. At least you know they will listen.

This Saturday! Geelong at Geelong! Scarlett & co as defenders! Bazza has his chance as he has missed playing them the previous 2 years. Let's see how he goes. because this is the test. You want a contract. Show us that you can compete with & be disciplined against the best.

THIS WEEK the young guys will be looking up to Bazza so that they too can stand tall beside him.

off topic:
He could and should have had atleast 4 goals yesterday, he had the most kicks of anyone outside our backline and also I still think hes getting murdered by the umps, the scragging yesterday was unbelievable, worse than when he snapped against westcoast, I do understand youre frustration Tedeski, but also Id like to add, MOL took some of Halls chances, theres alot of adjustments for the whole team to get right, I cant wait till the whole forward line 'clicks', and I believe it will!

Tedeski:)

I think you must be catching my grumpy disease!!!????... (haven't been kissin any pigs of late have u?:D)

Bjorn Borg's coach used to show him tapes of majors with all his mistakes cut out ....only winners!!!!... it brainwashed himt hat he was invincible when he did what he did best

They need to show BBBH 2005 season when often he ran and ran and ran straight at the ballcarrier and insisted he was had front possy and they kick it to him out in front for a chester.:thumbsu:

But you are right ....he has always pushed probably in the under12's too:o.... the message ought be if you cannot bump on opponents side with hip only!!!! THEN FFS push off early and RUN to make space

I don't mind when a player makes mistakes if they are genuinely trying. But Bazza is pushing the boundaries with this body on body from behind. I cannot recall the last time he took a mark from behind & be allowed it by the umps. We know he will never get the doubtful ones from the umps. That's no fault of his.

But people.........................if you tell your kids that you can't do this, otherwise that will happen & they persist in doing the same mistake over & over again, then it's time to hand your kids back & ask for a trade in!

Just got back from Mexico last night Corps!!:D
