Today Barry will announce that he will retire at the end of the season and I thought I would put this down on our board. I posted something similar on the main board.

I implore all Swans fans to not boo Barry when he returns to the SCG on Saturday. I thought it was ridiculous he got booed last time in Kirk's farewell. Perhaps the emotion got the better of people, perhaps it was the fair-weathered who got out for the game and saw Barry and though it'd be fun. But I think it was a great show of disrespect for someone who did so much for our club and without whom we would never have won the ultimate prize (and hence our drought may still be going).

I understand this will probably fall on deaf ears for the most part, but what do you guys think? I really hope a genuine champion of our club is shown the respect he deserves this weekend. Show him the love we all showed him when he was our man. I know I will be.

I really hope I can make it to this match... it'd be a shame if I didn't get to see him play live for the Dogs against the Swans. Stellar career, just unfortunate how his time ended with us.

I completely agree.

He may have done some stupid things but he loved our club and never would have left had the decision been up to him.

He's one of the greatest players to ever wear the red and the white and will always hold a very special place in our clubs history.

If you're sitting near anyone that decides to boo him, Staker them (jks)

Baz says he wants to be remembered as a Bulldog!

Big Bad Bustling Bulldog Barry Hall!

It's good to see he could keep his cool at the Dogs but one wonders WHY, as the person who held our cup aloft as captain, he couldn't just keep his cool for the Swans.

Any way!

Well done & thanks for the good times Bulldog Barry!

I guess it sound less threatening than Blood Barry!

Looking forward to reading his book!

I wasn't planning to, until Bazza stated that he sees himself as a Doggie, not a Swans player despite all that he has achieved with us. Poor form from a premiership captain. By all means be grateful to the club that gave him a chance to redefine his legacy, but don't shit over the Swans to do it.

If he wants to be remembered as a bulldog (which he wont be) I'm happy to boo him.

I won't be there so no threat of that happening.

Gotta wonder how close we might have got last year and this year if he was still at the club.

Hope he has a shocker this week but unfortunately I doubt he will.

!

errr ...me thinks ... he will privately look back and 'thank all that is holy & treky' that he was a BLOOD!

Perhaps the next heavy weight champ?

in big time or gutter,

love to see his get mad /brain spazzz attack mode as specialcomments man to replace the sideline commentator

"what do you reckon about that chamberlainish umpiring decison?"

Welllll
$%%^
!!!!%$^& bfaholes, <thump> !!, flipping take that you maggot!

Great effort BAZ!

He's hardly going to say he wants to be remembered as a saint/swan given he plays for the bulldogs is he?

I was actually thinking about it last night, because I knew he'd be asked the question, and he has a lot to be thankful to for each of the three clubs.

Saints started his career and gave him the opportunity to play at the highest level, Swans gave him a Premiership and the Captaincy of a great club, and served for some great years, and the Dogs showed faith in him that he could turn his game around, and gave him a chance to go out the champion he is.

Still, I think a Premiership Captain's true loyalties will always lie at that club, but he's hardly going to come out and say that he's a Swan at heart when he plays us this week.

After all, what are the two colours all three clubs he's played for have in common?

Red and White!

(I know you can't see the second word there but, it's pretty self-apparent.)

It's fairly obvious that he will be remembered as a Swan, being your premiership captain and all.

Would be a pretty poor display if he is booed at the SCG this weekend.

With the amount of booing that was going on at Sunday's game who knows?

Have the SCG games been sold out lately? I might pop on down and try and get at ticket at the gate if the weather is ok.

From everything I've read, he's still pretty bitter about what happened at the Swans. He doesn't seem to want to take much responsibility but instead blames it on Roos, Kirk and our game style.

I think once he's out of the game he'll look back and realise that everything that happened was for the best and at the end of the day he'll be remembered as a Swan.

It's a shame if this is the case because he wouldn't have been our p'ship captain had it not been for Roos, Kirk, the gamestyle & Bazza himself pulling his head in & taking responsibility for his previous indiscretions, some of which were actually under Eade.
I'll always remember him as a Swan.

Yeah, l'll always remember him as a Swan.

Like I said, I think he's still too close to it all to look at it objectively. We'll see what he says in a couple of years after he's retired.

Obviously we didn't know exactly what was going on in the club at the time, but after the sacking/leaving/whatever, everyone in the footy world pretty much agreed we'd done the right thing. The situation had become untenable. It's easy to forget just how volatile he was. He needed a change of scenery for his own good.

I thinks you are right Legend, it will take awhile before he can see things objectively. Still I loved him at the Swans, great player. I don't think he copped the same scrutiny from players and umps like he did at the Swans. Still he took up the offer at the doggies and will finish up there. I certainly wont be booing but there will always be yobbos and idiots cannot prevent that. Just as long as we can keep hiim to ten goals when he plays us Saturday lol.

Maybe it has something to do with the boo's he received last time he played, but lets face it, he can't openly come out and say I want to be remembered as a Swan and for holding the premiership cup aloft, not while he is playing for the Dogs. But I have no doubt his greatest football memories will be of his time with the Swans, and my fondest memories of him will certainly be when he played as one of our team.

I actually agree with him, that our game style really stuffed it for him and thats why he got so frustrated. How could any FF expect to take marks and get the footy when the ball was being delivered so slowly into our forward line. All the stop/start defensive football that we were playing at the time would have made it impossible for any FF. Lets face it, the game is so much more exciting when the ball is delivered quickly into the forward line, when the FB is caught off guard and/or the other defenders dont have the time to double or triple man up on him.

BUt no doubt he will be remembered as a Swan, and his best memories will be of his time with us.

Thanks for making this announcement prior to our game so that we can give you a send off, this (announcement) is obviously timed to give the Swans fans a chance to see you off. Have a great day Bas, kick lots of goals and I for one wish you the best. I hope you have an amazing day and are the best player in a losing team.

Some of you people aren't all that bright hey?

Like you would say you are a Swan at heart if you were still playing for Western Bulldogs, like that would do you any favours. He wants to play until the end of the season and they are still a hope to make the eight. It be the same as Bradshaw telling us he is a Swan at heart...
