Bartel decision tomorrow!

Why would he come out tomorrow, and say he is leaving the club?

If he were leaving, surely he'd just make it known now?

I was confident he would stay until I read Davidson's quotes ;)

It's all very strange. If he wanted to remain a cat why would'nt he come out before the end of the season and say so, like J.Brown from the Lions.

That is what loyalty is about. My guess is that Jimmy has played his last game at the cattery.

Don't get me wrong, i am one on jimmy's biggest fans (i just love the way he plays his footy), but you can't stop what will occur, so why not make a huge tilt at Fev...

Just imagine in a few seasons:

HF S.Johnson T. Hawkins G. Ablett

FF N.Ablett B. Ottens B.Fevola

And have chappy in the middle for Jimmy...

Interesting points. I tend to agree, i feel his manager is wanting him not to say he wants to stay, therefore he can get more money if they think he may leave.
Will be very interesting, i am not interested in players who dont want to be here, if he cannot see the oppurtunity he has to achieve some success then thats his problem and lets make the best of it we can and get a good deal for him.
Also arent Scarlo and Fev mates??

Two reasons.

A) His manager is a greedy snake

B) Saying he wants to stay takes away some of his managers bargaining power, the bargaining power he is using to extort a few extra grand from the club

It's really disappointing how this is playing out (this is the second time, too) and it does reflect poorly on Jimmy.
Guys like Joel Corey and Cameron Ling could play the field to garner an extra wad of coin but both are committed and willing to sacrifice that opportunity by signing mid-season which aides our club in so many ways.

I hope like hell he signs a long-term deal tomorrow but either way i'm glad we're getting it cleared up now.

Hands up if you think we can't win the flag without Bartel next year...

My hand stays down. We can.

If he wants to go, fine. I have full faith that the club will get the maximum value out of a trade for him. The first point of call will be a key forward and a good one at that.

I hope he stays but if he doesn't want to we're better off without him.

I share your outlook catempire.

I'd love him to sign but as disappointing as him leaving would be, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

If Jimmy leaves some club is going to pay through the nose for him.

He is a very talented player, it would be a shame to lose him. I think he will stay, if he doesn't i hope we are dealing with Collingwood, who hold pick 5.

Exactly, there's no way he's going to go cheaply if he does leave. We hold all the cards.

I'm thinking a high top 10 pick and a quality player (or a second pick between 13-20) and i'm sure we'd get that on the open market.

I'd still rather he stayed, but it ain't all bad if he walks.

I'd want an awful lot more.

If we're losing Bartel i want a top 5 draft pick and change, nothing less.

What about Fev + a 2nd or 3rd rounder or straight swap.

Carlton won't offer anything because they have first pick in the PSD. Nothing in it for them.

Perhaps the Kangaroos might make a big play for him. Daniel Motlop is walking on them and say if Grant leaves as well, they would have a lot of room in the salary cap.
From an opposition perspective, I would think he'd stay. I read the article and realistically if he goes he will be going to a bottom 8 side, which would be pretty stupid.
Just as a question, does he have a problem with Geelong or is he just being greedy?

I think you will find that if he stays (likely) that he has no problem with Geelong, and is not greedy, but is just trying to get what he can, smart management really. If he goes, I would say that he is just looking out for what is best for him, he has no problem with Geelong I'm pretty sure.

why would Bartel announce that he is leaving before the "Carji" has been decided? i can't see the logic in it. Surely he wouldn't announce something that would make him a persona non grata at the award night...

I can't see it unless it's a three way deal.

We don't need their draft pick and i doubt they'll want to give us one of their young stars (which is what would be required if a high pick isn't available).

Neither.

His manager is a greedy ******** though.

Heath Black did the same thing when he left the Dockers. He went on to win the B&F, but nobody clapped or cheered when he went up to receive the award. Let's hope Jimmy's staying, it would be sad that we gave up a player last year that wanted to play for us when Bartel would've been happy to leave.

It's simple if he goes we must get Fevola or to a lesser extent Tarrent.

I'm sure we can find the extra 150K on top of what we were going to use for JB. It just makes sense. We all try and deny it, or say it will get better but our forward line is the one area holding us back. Everyone knows it.

Everyone goes on and on about what the forward line might look like but you never know. Both Ablett and Hawkins have question marks over their mobility and speed at the top level. Not to mention attitute

Assuming they do turn into guns the midfield might start to be a worry Lingy, Corey, Chapman, Enright, will all be close to 30 as will Scarlo and Harley. We may miss the window and be like the cats in the early 90's

We have a real chance in the next 2 years. We've had a real chance the last 2 years.

Johnson, Kingsley, Chapman
Ottens, Fevola, G. Ablett

That's dangereous and gives us as good as the others have got. That would stretch every backline. Ottens on the 3rd best tall :-). Plus 5 of the 6 are beautiful kicks. Each bloke there would reasonably expect 35 goals next year

Yes Fevola might be a bit of a head case now but he is a lot better than Barry Hall was at the same age. He's young (plenty of footy in him). He's kicked over 50 goals in his last three seasons in the worst team in the comp and injured. He's a very good player.

If I had to chose then I know who I'd chose. If JB forces us then there is no decision.

You argue a very good point here, and I'm getting swayed.
